Remember the great Angostura bitters shortage? Back on St. Patrick's Day, we celebrated with a cocktail moment featuring Oisin's Dram. A few months ago, you might have had a hard time mixing one of those up, because the essential dash of Angostura bitters had gotten hard to come by. Now, in another sign that the worst of the global Great Recession might be behind us, the manufacturer, which had suspended production, is rolling again.
Today, the Angostura folks sent over a lifetime supply of the liquid gold. If you can't find Angostura bitters now, it's because we have it all.

Well, that was a lovely way to start the morning.
Drinks for EVERYONE!
Rachel, you need to check out some Fee Brothers bitters! Wine Library over in Springfield, NJ has pretty much the whole line, and they are delicious.
I could use a drink right now...!
Wow, bitter much? lol
LOL, what a dork!! <sigh> to find such liquid gold in Minnesota....
Awesome! And when you're at work, a dash in a glass of ginger ale is delish, so long as you're willing to "waste" it on a virgin drink.
I would kill (definately kidding!!!....not in the TP sense...er' that's the "tea party" sense!) to get a Rachel bottle for my bar setup! Can you imagine the expression from the conservatives when I serve up a martini made from bitters from Rachel? !!!!
Anyone else think that Rachel resembles Mitch from Real Genius?
a dash of bitters on a spoonful of dry sugar is a certain cure for the hiccups. i learned this from a bartender friend many moons ago. try it! works a treat.
so if the world starts suffering from mass hiccups and can't cure them, we're coming to rachel's house...
Well, at least *someone* has 'em.
Good luck finishing up your stock, I've found a bottle of Angostura bitters will last about a decade. Of course, I may not be consuming the same amount of Martinis & Manhattans as some folks (but I might start).
Quick question: what is everyone's favorite booze for Martinis / Manhattans?
For me, it's Bombay Blue Sapphire / Maker's Mark
Plymouth or Tanqueray
and its gotta be a dirty martini for me. Not a fan of Manhattans but I would prefer Penelton because its smooth
Tanqueray martinis or Tanqueray and tonic for me. Never been a vodka drinker. I do like a good single malt whiskey too.
Go with Tito's. Even if you dont like vodka, youll like Tito's.
That picture makes a perfect birthday card base.
Hey, You will never use it all, so throw a big party for all your fans.
I've never had a Manhattan, however, as far as martini's go, I'm a "vodka martini" person. Stoli's (the higher proof one) served from the freezer is the way to go.
BTW, a conservative friend of mine just gave me a bottle of Stoli's that he has been holding as an investment....it was bottled PRIOR to the fall of the USSR, which the label says. Today's labels say "Russia". He gave it to me as a symbolic gesture..."here is 100% communistic vodka for you...I know you are the only person who would appreciate it!" They don't know the difference between a Democrat and a Communist!
I believe that a martini does not contain vodka... I heard that from an MSNBC show host somewhere...
You should try a Manhattan one time, they're tasty. Think Martini, but with whiskey instead of vodka/gin & sweet vermouth with a cherry. Traditionally more of a winter drink, but doesn't have to be.
Oh, and re your conservative friend... for giggles, ask them to explain the difference between Communism/Socialism/Fascism. Odds are, they'll have no clue, but it'll be worth some laughs to see them try.
Re vodka, Alton Brown on the Food Network mentioned that if you get some of the cheap stuff and run it about 4-5 times through a charcoal filter (say a Pur or Britta water filtering pitcher), you'll get the same quality as buying a $50+ bottle of premium stuff.
You guys should have some kind of contest and give away one bottle of bitters autographed by Rachel. That would be awesome!
You must come to the Bitters Pub on Washington Island, WI, Rachel. I think they make you an honorary citizen if you drink shots of the stuff.
And hey! While there, you can stay at the Bitter End Motel.
#9: she reminds me of private joker from full metal jacket.
That was pretty hilarious, the angry speech you gave on St. Patty's day about SOME people who hoard all the bitters for themselves and wouldn't let you have any.
Success!
When I saw that photo I just had to do this

this link is just so AWESOME!
Rachel, Rachel, Rachel...you are such a dork! I love you.
Oh, Rachel...you are such a dork. I love you.
Like a true journalist, Rachel needs a drink in the morning. <3 You're awesome!
Dear Rachel: if you ever have another shortage of Angostura bitter, I'll send you some. I'm from Venezuela and we make it :D
Besos from Caracas!
Very very big fan of yours from Trinidad and Tobago, home of the House of Angostura (Angostura Ltd.) No shortage of bitters here and thankfully so, excellent part of many a cocktail. I'm sure you'll enjoy that lifetime supply thoroughly.
Alright, I'm caving in and trying this bitters thing! In all my years of drinking and making cocktails (mostly Martinis etc.) I have never used bitters! Now I feel that I have been left out of something special. I will try bitters if you try the French liqueur, Chartreuse served in a large brandy snifter straight up. Honey inhale while you sip and you will discover that is the mother of all liqueurs. It will make your Apple Jack brandy taste like kid stuff! Let me know if your nose tingled like mine did the first time I tried this mystic green stuff !
