I'd pay upwards of $460/month for a pad like that!
I took the exact same picture when I was there in December. Hey Rachel, check your MSNBC snail mail!
They didn't really let you in, did they?
Do we get to see any pics of the decor ? Would love to see the inside !
Can I move in there...I'll give them $465 a month. I don't even want maid service, but maybe cold beer in the fridge everyday while I worry about cost of living.
I want the maid service. Also a lock on the door, considering the character of my prospective room-mates!
It's like one big dysfunctional The Family!
I'd also like to see the interns/maids cleaning up.
Way down here in Belize Rachel. .....
C Street ...short for C(s)in Street.
Maybe that's what your need to refer to this charade of religion. Hey! How about (C)harade St.
Stop! Rachel - Do NOT Open That Door! (although, always wondered 'What's Behind the Green Door?' Be Ware-y...they're not big fans in there
Tease!
Holy Timberwolf, that's beautiful! :)
Thanks for the pic, Rachel!!

Can someone please answer me this:
If I am a landlord, am I NOT allowed to charge whatever I want for rent? Maddow keeps saying that the rent is subsidized because it's under market value. To me, the rent would be subsidized if the landlord says, 'Look, I normally charge a couple grand for this, but I'll give you a discount.', or 'Mr. Smith has decided he would like to cover half of your rent.'
If the landlord decides to charge a low rent, it makes him a bad businessman, not a crook or someone aiding in an ethics violation.
If there is a specific law that requires Congress to pay AT LEAST market value, then I'd like to see it. I'm a big fan of the show, but this has bothered me.
If you want to reply to me in a more personal fashion, I'm on Twitter @samvance
Unless the landlord would offer the same price to any tenant, it's called an "in-kind" donation. "In kind" donations must be offered by individuals (not corporations*); and must be enumerated on reporting forms by the candidates/politicians. There may be other rules, but I'm sure of this one.
By the way, none of the C-street tenants have reported this contribution.
*may be not true since Citizens United case.
if you don't charge full market value then its a gift to a politician. and said politician must now disclose his or her benefactor. "transparency" is mandated in varying degrees by federal laws and congressional rules. it is a clear violation of ethics and the reason these politicians are being very dodgy about answering questions.
If you are giving a break to a chosen few, let's see. You are discriminating against the unchosen many, that's one. But WHY are you being such a sweetie? You could buy your wife many fancy things with market rate but you ask her and your starving children to forego goodies to benefit members of Congress? HOW DISINGENUOUS ARE YOU? PUHLEEZE, get a grip. You are giving a donation in kind. If the congressman doesn't mark it as such in every piece of paperwork he has to turn in, he's a crook..........and honey, so are you.
How am I a crook?? Or are you replying to me as if I am someone else?
So can a member of Congress not shop around for a cheap rent? Does anywhere he/she chooses to live have to be whatever the avg market value is?
I understand completely if the landlord says that he is giving them a discount or if he actually charges more, but someone else pick's up part of the rent. I understand how that is an in-kind donation, but what if the Congressman is like, 'How much is rent?' and the landlord says, 'This much per month.'? Is that a crime? Really?
Lovely? But do they serve tomato juice with the included breakfasts, or hot tea with dinner, when it's cold outside. Did they happen to give you a list of this week's menu?
Quick, run while you still can. Rumor has it Dan Stein is waiting for you in the sitting room and he's been warming-up his vocal chords. I sure hope someone gives him some advice on how interviews work before his next appearance on your show ...
Well, it *is* pretty. . . Any footage of the inside on tonight's show, since you "spent some time there" for the show?
I feel silly saying this, but the tiling above the door is Beautiful. I wonder when it dates from. . .
of course the real value is it's proximity to congress. can't wait to see rachel perusing the infamous "church" of biblical capitalism. is jeff sharlet giving you the tour?
Is there any bar or wine there (sacramental...it is a Church, right?)? Maybe Rachel can mix some drinks...get the Family nice and schnockered, and then interview them.
lol, "schnockered". spell check has a problem with that one. i'm having a corona right now in honor of arizona. go rachel!
I lived in the DC area and those C Street gang politicians are THIEVES!! You can't even rent one room on the worst end of town for that (with or without maids and assistants)!
That is not for a room or small unit of that Brownstone...Give me a break..One bedroom apts for sale start at over $650,000 to over $1,000,000
They should be made to pay FULL price and charged with violations of campaign rules.
You would pay in any crappy hotel (if there are any in Capital Hill) for 1 night.
LOSERS..
I think I would have someone do a "cleansing" before I would enter - After all, Sarah had her witch blessing, but The Family never said if the blessing floated over to C Street. Better be safe than sorry!
Rachel, I adore you. That said, please don't visit C Street dressed as a pizza delivery boy. It might fool them but it saddens me.
It would've been funny if she had a pizza in hand and rang the doorbell.
That's how Rachel is..she "girls" it up for TV but otherwise that's how she dresses..it's who she is and it's all good :)
Oh ffs. She dresses how she likes, just like we all do. Whytf should she care that Random Internet Stranger feels sad over her polo and hoodie? Seriously.
More "regular Rachel", please. Very nice.
Would it be actionable for the use interns as slaves instead of Page's? What are they being paid and by who? Income tax? Social security! Should some go to jail!
I made a mistake, left out one in someone'
C Street - C for CHURCH?
Is C Street the only example? Are other members of Congress living in accommodations subsidized by some group, or sponsored by some lobbying firm or cult? Has any member of Congress ever reported in kind contributions for living arrangements?
