Given the responses to the DADT comic opportunity, I think we may have hit upon a new favorite creative medium. :) (previously)

Love your show! I watched the piece on the Army DADT comics...one comment. 1SG is First Sergeant, not "eye-S-G", as you pronounced on the voice-over.
Keep up the good work!
In reality that is not how it will be handled or is handled now. But still a pretty funny cartoon
I love your show I wish you would run for office
No, Please Rachel, never, never go into politics. It will ruin your honesty and frankness.
Wait, it hasn't harmed Franken yet, OK, so just be careful.
these are fantastic cartoons and whomever came up with the original should be proud of their spawn. Think they are?
Chuck & Lucy reference = EPIC! :)
I agree, that one's my favorite!
What no one ever talks about is this - should straight men and woman have to tolerate showering and nudity with homosexuals? If so, then shouldn't men and women bunk together too? And if men and women should be separated, shouldn't gay men and gay women be separated from the sex they have sexual attraction to? And how would that work practically? Before all the gay and gay supporters chide me for daring to bring this up - provide a legitimate answer first. No one is doubting anyone's right or ability to serve their country, of course they have that right and if they can make it through boot camp they have the ability. But what of the obvious, touchy, politically incorrect issue I bring up?
When I was doing a documentary on homelessness, I stayed in several big homeless facilities in several states. You have a fair number of openly gay and lesbian people, like myself. No one is really interested! Everyone knows what everyone else has because they have the same thing. It's not like preschool where no one knows that. You keep to yourself, the way you would anywhere else. And you can't put lesbians in with guys either, it doesn't work any better, and is usually worse. And there aren't enough of us to put in separate facilities for gays and lesbians. You know I just don't know what it's all about really, haven't folks ever been on a co-ed camping trip before?????
A very persistent myth about homosexuals is that they are far more prurient than heterosexuals. The fact is, they're just like anyone else, and they have their own personal tastes. They don't necessarily want to jump into bed with every person who just happens to have the same bits they have, any more than a hetero wants to jump into bed with every member of the opposite sex.
So take your shower and don't worry about it. Besides, if you do get ogled, take it as a compliment! It doesn't mean you are forced to act on it!
I believe the day will come when men and women are no longer separated. The main reason they are separated is not mutual sexual interest but the safety of women against male aggressors. As society evolves, women stop being conditioned to submit, men stop being conditioned that they're entitled to take what they want, this concern will fade - not in any of our lifetimes, though. Perhaps on a horizon of about two or three hundred years from now. This is not so unthinkable. Plato anticipated it 2500 years ago.
Analogously, then: is the U.S., now or in recent history, an environment where straight people have lived their whole lives in fear of an aggressive, privileged dominant class of gays who might rape them at any time with a statistically overwhelming likelihood of never facing any legal or social consequences for it, credibly threatening and sometimes actually taking straight people's lives if they don't comply sexually and otherwise; making them afraid to go out at night or to challenge gay social dominance without being attacked by angry, straight-hating gays; trapping economically vulnerable straights into sex work in service to gays; indoctrinating them from birth that it is rude and disrespectful to resist gay come-ons as well as socially unacceptable to develop physical fitness or arm oneself for actual resistance to gay assault? In that case, straights may have a good argument for not sharing locker rooms with gays. Otherwise, shut up. You have nothing to worry about, because - as inconceivable as many straight men may find it - most people actually prefer willing partners.
Many (most?) college dorms today are coed. That includes the bathrooms. Parents get over it.
When I worked on the East Coast, I was surprised to find coed bathrooms. Workers got over it.
I've liberated quite a few men's rooms as I hate standing in line. (I'd not make it in the military.)
I've worked in an office with trans-gender individuals going through the transformation process. The major confusion wasn't which rest room to use, it was if this meant becoming a she meant the person wasn't gay anymore. That had the gays confused for while and then, THEY got over it.
So, in the REAL world, its No Big Deal. Time for the military to Get Over It!
To all of you who replied - thank you. I'm very flattered that you took the time to respond.
I'm from the East Coast too and although straight I would guess I have more experience with gay and lesbians than most. I have had many, many gay friends for years and in fact aused to live in a gay boarding house. I don't entirely agree that gay people are "just like heterosexuals" in terms of overt sexual behavior - my experience is they are generally much more so. They are defined as a group entirely by their sexuality - gay and lesbian. Please don't accuse me of being homophobic or anti-gay, I am not. Some of the finest people I have ever known were gay. But if gays and lesbians should bunk with same-sex, then all sexes should bunk together. However I will guarantee you there will be much more sexual behavior by all - you cannot deny that. Unfortunately in war, that is a destroyer of troop cohesion which is critical in battle. But I am very happy to see my gay and lesbian brothers and sisters fighting for their country, God bless them.
WTF just happened?
What the hell?
I don't know either. I'm going with "delete."
Dear Ms. Maddow:
I see there is another bigoted comment by a Republican, this time by Sen. Vitter. If you don't like the message, attack the messenger. It is a sad commentary that bigots like him, Limbaugh, Coulter, and their ilk, have more hatred towards their fellow Americans than they do for Al Queda and the injustices of the world. I think it would make a major impact if their was an event where gay Americans who won military medals such as the Medal of Honor, Distinguished Service Cross, Silver Star, etc, would get up and show America what is real and what we must get past. I am not gay but like most Jews I have a reflexive hostility and sense of outrage towards blind bigotry and racism. However, I am seeing some light in the youngester, as they seem to have considerably less bigotry then previous generations, even the baby boomers. I think that we will, by evolution, reach a time when public figure who plays the bigotry card will be immediately rejected. Keep up the good work.

Yeah, DJ and Laura, I see the posts too. This is where I find myself restating - for the like way too many time - Blog Moderator: I hope it's more than evident at this juncture the TRMS is the target of some kind of homophobic/sexist web based attempt (not too many on the blog so far today) to just efff with this site for the sake of just effing/disrupting/downgrading/whatever they can accomplish....my hope is it is curtailed before 'critical mass' is reached (sooner the better ya'll?). Thx
For the most part, the posts are fine, even those with opposing views. As with any site with comments, a few douchebags will find their way in and get kicks out if acting like pigs and attempting to piss people off. Until such comments are deleted and dealt with, it's just best to ignore them and not give them the attention they crave in their sad, pathetic lives.
My dad served with homosexuals in the 40's. I served with homosexuals in the 70's. Everyone knew, a handful of idiots cared. The concern in the security and intelligence units was that closeted homosexuals were subject to extortion. "Don't ask, don't tell" didn't fix that, and in fact it's still happening. The policy is wrong-headed and places soldiers in an untenable position. If our armed forces can't figure out how to handle the modesty issues they can call a dozen of our allies and ask how they've managed.
Ali's nerd-outing has my vote! Now I have to go to a party that involves slogging though a dungeon for treasure.
Absolutely not. In fact, homosexuals should have their own war, separate, but equal. Maybe we could invade Kazakhstan to provide this opportunity, since they have more oil.
It's also obvious that African-Americans and white people should have their own wars as well, since there are still racists in the USA, and it would be terrible to offend them. I think Iran is still available, although we'll gave to hurry.
OH! And smart people and stupid people shouldn't have to shower together either, so we'll need another separate but equal Army and war for them as well. Let's see... Luxembourg, I think. I know it's not much of a country, but it's all about "right-sizing," and we already invaded Granada. (Note for cretins: Granada and Canada are two separate countries. The Granadians don't have an ice hockey team)
Now that I think about it, why don't we make every American citizen "An Army of One," issue weapons, and let them blaze away at whoever they want? An approximation of this breakthrough is being tried in Arizona on an experimental basis, but we should be bold and let National interests and policies be defined not by mere States -- Oh, no! -- but by any idiot with a gun.
Hey Puddinhead, thanks for that! I was so confused before, but now I see...
(my damn stomach hurts from laughing so much)
I'd forgotten how powerful a technique reductio ad absurdum could be! Wonderful.
Incidentally, Grenada is the Caribbean island nation; Granada is a city in Spain.
My Norwegian countrymen serves in Afghanistan too, as fighting soldiers. Men AND women. To my knowledges noone in the military system are concerned for a moment about what gender their bedmates are. I hope their American colleagues can one day enjoy the same freedom.
