A hundred days into the Deepwater Horizon disaster, BP got the headline it has been waiting for. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says oil from the well is rapidly disappearing from the surface of the Gulf of Mexico. Scientists don't know yet about the potential effects of oil under the surface -- it's complicated -- but the visible oil is vanishing.
The oil disappears. CEO Tony Hayward disappears. The comprehensive climate and energy bill disappears. Just like magic.
And hey, BP told us this would happen. Hayward announced early on that "the Gulf of Mexico is a very big ocean" -- plenty big enough to hide the largest oil spill in our nation's history. Or rather, plenty big enough to consume it.
The Gulf of Mexico can take it, BP hydrogeologist Lyle Bruce told the citizens of Orange Beach, Alabama, back in the early days of the spill. Bruce told them not to worry, that skimming and burning and evaporation and microbes would clean this mess up. I can't say it makes me feel any better about it, even now.

Gawd, this is pathetic.
The oil isn't disappearing. It's being dissolved in the water by the 42 million gallons of toxic dispersant that's been used. The oil is still there....it just can't be seen.
And the NOAA is pathetic for knowingly misleading the public..either that or the NOAA is so stupid they need to go back to the university and get their money back.
Commercial fishing is starting up again (east of the Mississippi). It will be interesting to see what they catch--if anything!
Tony Hayward to Siberia--won't have to listen to his lies anymore.
I listen to Paul Watson. He knows what's up out there. At this point I will only believe what he and his crew have to say about (laughable if not so pathetic) oil disappearing.
This here's the story bout British Petroleum and me and you. Two different factions with nothing better to do, but stand around in oil, get sick on the abuse. Here's what happens when BP decided to cut loose...(Singn) "Go on, they take the money and run!!!! Oooh Lord!"
Barack Obama is a detective up in Washington. You know he knows just exactly what side he's on. He ain't gonna let those corporate crooks escape justice... He makes his living off of the people's taxes. Tony Hayward, ya know he got away, got on his private yacht the very next day, headed towards Russia, and he's still running today, singing, "Go on, take the money and run!" OOOOOOH LORD!!!
I trust that Rachel will do one of her excellent demonstrations of truth sharing so that all can understand the actualiy of the clean up. My fear is that without continued attention, BP, Transocean and Halliburton will escape. They are practicing their Houdini moves even as we speak, I feel certain. Go Rachel.
/Rachel,
When you come back from your well-earned vac, please, please tell the truth to us. We only have a few brave truthsayers. You, your colleague the magnificent Keith, first and foremost among them. Anderson Cooper will keep them honest, got to hand it to him. Congressman Markey is fighting a tremendous, heroic battle, as is Senator Nelson, and Governor Charlie Crist. But the rest of the establishment will just say, everything's fine, they have capped the well, gobbled up the oil, we can quit worrying---but please, Rachel, please, please, keep up the pressure to stop forever the deep water drilling, get Pres. Obama back to his clean energy principles, encourage Secretary Salazar, the drilling czar, to take early retirement.
You can do it, Rachel. You, above all these others are our voice. Wherever in America we live doesn't matter---we are the the people of the Gulf, and the people of the Gulf are us. Thank you for all that you do to speak the truth.
