President Obama rediscovered his inner populist yesterday in Wisconsin, as he announced a new $50 billion plan for infrastructure spending and job creation. Mr. Obama told Milwaukee he wants to see the middle class thrive:
"Over the last two years, that's meant taking on some powerful interests, some powerful interests who had been dominating the agenda in Washington for a very long time. And they're not always happy with me. They talk about me like a dog. That's not in my prepared remarks, but it's true."
The Interwebs have since decided Mr. Obama was channeling Jimi Hendrix -- Google "Obama dog Hendrix".
Lyrics from Hendrix's "Stone Free" are here. Clip's after the jump.

Maybe he was actually referring to this (I can't find a clip online but it's funny if you watch):

Wow, like the worst audio dub ever. Maybe, he was singing in Flemish?
I saw the guitar god in my misspent youth. Too bad I was riptus maximus at the time. There were security guards on the stage to make sure he didn't set his guitar on fire with lighter fluid ... again.

I beleive our president could be getting a lot more accomplished if the republicans and fence riding democrats were more into solution thinking, instead of, the on going bla bla bla resistance. it hurts us/US the american people! It doesn't hurt them! They still have their nice homes, big incomes, good cars, no medical bills, a job....etc. So I wish they would get their head out of their dark back side and start cooperating. They have no solution! Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin? is that their solution! "god save the queen." (I don't know why I said that - lol) anyway, there are WAY to many americans that beleive the crap the media is putting out there, because they are not educated enough or maybe to lazy, to research the news. anyway...I stand by my president. I just wish he would get a little tougher.
The republicans made it clear after President Obama took office--they want to see him fail. They've been obstructing his policies since day one. They don't care about the country--they only care about themselves.
It's more than time for a viable third party in this country to replace the republican party.
It has been very clear to me that republicans want President Obama to fail even if it causes the working class to fail, the war effort to fail, the list goes on and on. They were even happy when Chicago didn't get the olympics after President Obama went to bat for us with the Olympic committee, that would of brought alot of needed $ to the Chicago area. Apparently 50% of the american public are so niave and impatient they think that Obama should of been able to bring back the economy from the abyss in 18 months. President Obama graduated from Harvard not Hogwarts. If Obama laid a golden egg all we would hear on the news is that the golden egg is a muslim egg,.. it wasn't laid in the united states, the egg is going to hatch terrorist! Caring for the egg is going to add to the deficit! Much of the media in this country plays into all of this political wrangling and just wants to talk about stupid sensational stuff instead of doing any real reporting. Rachel Maddow is the only news I can stand to watch anymore. Only other news worth watching is PBS, NPR and Link TV. Only thing on the news today is about some idiot preacher in Florida holding a coran burning ceremony. What a idiot! What good could that accomplish? With all the things the news could be reporting on they choose this story. I wish I was in Florida and I could get a group together to go pummel those people with corans, and anything else around to throw at them to get them to shut up and go home and think of something constructive to do.
Maybe President Obama isn't American. Everyone knows that scene from "Vacation".
oh please Sandyh..........this has got to stop!
Maybe the President shouldn't make himself the butt of other people's jokes by saying and doing things that hurt himself? He should have pushed through the agenda voters wanted in 2008 instead of allowing Republicans to fake him out and agree to watering down a mandate.
I'm not thinking people who are suffering from this Bush League economy are feeling sorry for him. Let's see if they feel sorry enough for themselves to give him and our Dem incumbents a second chance to end the filibuster. Even if they don't hold onto the majority, we have the final session before the next term.
Seize the day, Dems. Seize the day.
Sorry, forgot the link:

Lol
What we need about now is Howard Dean! He knows how to run campaigns and get people excited. I can't understand why President Obama has not treated him better and used his talents.
If the Democrats don't start getting tough we will end up with John Boehner as speaker of the house and then we will really be in trouble. He can repeal health care when we cut his health care that we are paying for.
Also, off topic, everyone should read Third World America by Arianna Huffington. I have just started it and it is depressing but so honest and revealing.
We need someone besides gutless wonders who don't believe they reeally can without the support of those who want them to fail, who won't even challenge the Blue Dogs in their own party.
I think the only person who can help the democrats out of this mess is Howard Dean. He has great ideas and can get the people excited. Someone has got to do this or we will be in a bigger mess. I also hope you will all read Third World America by Arianna Huffington. It is depressing but also there is hope if only we do the right things.
Why aren't we going after John Boehner. He can cut healthcare as soon as we cut his!
Please light a fire under the Dems!
Howard Dean did a terrific job as the Democratic National Chairman, and I think there is still a lot of fire in his engine.
Why is Pres Obama the only Dem who is exposing the facts behind real issues? MSNBC is the only additional support for real messages, but sadly the station is run by communists. I am sick of hearing "tea party" and the Rep dominating the media with whipped-up non-issues. HELP WANTED: a marketing strategist with backbone, must start today
And real journalists who ignore rumors and stick to searching for the facts wherever they may be found no matter what they might reveal.
MSNBC has an agenda and it is not a Democratic one. Rachel and Keith have done nothing but trash the President.
Not true Tanyars. There is a difference between trashing a guy (like Fox news makes a killing off of) and holding someone accountable. I understand, you are not used to the right wing calling out their own so it appears as liberal v president. The mark of a good leader is someone who is able to listen to constructive criticism and learn from their mistakes.
Obama is an adult, and I sure hope that you don't think the President should be above criticism (even if it is his own party).
Without a doubt that is the most absurd statement of the day.
I saw him say that, and noticed his attitude become more vibrant after he realized he had just said that! It was honest and direct and surprised him in a very positive way. We all sort of tip toe around the real problem we're having with our flag-waving, fox watching, poorly educated backlash against anyone who doesn't believe in every word in the bible, that surely was written by the hand of God. You've seen them, their face gets red, their neck puffs out, they get in your face so close, you can see them spit a little while they attempt to find the right word that would make their poorly composed rant seem logical! We feel sorry for them, so we don't just tell them to go F*** off...we try to reason with them. But they don't want to be reasoned with. They want their guns, they want their bucks. They want everything to stay just like it is. They are the Koch brothers of the world. They've been so wealthy, and spiritually disconnected for so long, they have no soul.
And the rear end of the Snail can't see this! That's part of the real problem!
The President just got tired of being polite to people who still live in 1861~
He seems to be pretty much stuck back there, too. You can't compromise on human rights. You must fight for them. MLK and Ghandi pushed and never felt sorry for themselves. Live the way you dream.
Go, Barack!
If y'all are channeling Jimi, do it right: http://www.iviewtube.com/v/76340/jimi-hendrix-star-spangled-banner-woodstock-1969
Yes, I am that old!
Me, too CL! My husbands' birthday is the same as Jimi's, 11-27. Peace, love & happiness to all!
If Obama was like this from DAY 1 of his presidency, The Dems would be adding seats not losing seats.
Did we not learn from last summer's fiasco? If the media continues to give credence to this idea that the Dems are in for a whopping loss this midterm then your affiramtions may in fact come true. Try telling some actual news instead of simply prognosticating defeat. Show a little more of Obama on the road instead of Sharon Angle. Why do you guys continue to give more air time to silly Tea Party issues and less about true policy issues and the more serious stories of the day?
There's actually a great deal of Truth to this statement by Fedup. Voter enthusiasm, which is something to be fair Rachel has touched on, is what will determine who will win and who will lose. If Democrats are as motivated to go out and elect as they were in 2008, you'd probably see a +60 seat majority in the Senate and a larger take over in the House. However, if Democrats are not motivated to turn out at all, then you're likely to see a House takeover or worse by Republicans. Keeping the focus on Democrats and keeping the energy up- reminding Dems why we have to go out and vote, what's at stake, and reminding Dems that if we just vote we will make things better is the key. Predicting that Republicans will take over gives the impression that nothing a Democrat can do will change the tide, so why bother voting? It is an incorrect portrayal that the media does, I think accidentally, in it's attempt to get ratings via discordance.
One, it's the corporate media. Two, the news divisions are run by the entertainment division nowadays. Three, a mild-mannered man who doesn't wear a cape or at least a strange Uncle Sam outfits at a Teabagger Party is not a good visual story. As President Obama is not the most animated person in Washington, Axelrod should start surrounding him with his followers who will more than make up for it.
President Obama has been inside the Washington DC/Bush White House white gloves bubble too long. Organize the rallies, and we will come...in numbers that Glenn Beck can only dream about. We have to try twice as hard as them to get a fair shake. We don't have our own cable station. And Axelrod has been too protective of his charge. While Gibbs thinks making Faux News happy his only job.
I believe you might have the ticket, folks. Hire Howard Dean to run Communications at the White House. Hell, hire him to run the DNC again. He knows how to recruit good candidates and get them elected. He probably could help them with creating jobs, too.
The good doctor knows what's ailing this country and has the prescription to get it moving again. It's time to for the President's first team to set aside and bring in new blood. It's all been sucked out of the President by the Blue Dogs and Clinton people.
Lol. That might be the worst example of lip-sync ever. I've always preferred the uptempo version of that song. Anyway, I agree re: Obama's profile. Had he been more populist and less accommodating of the right, maybe the Dems would kick ass in Nov.
Thank you fedup. I have been saying this for a long time now. The 'liberal media' seems to care more about the GOP these days (my personal opinion is that due to the Fox's of the world calling them liberal media, they have reverted to avoiding looking any bit liberal and have supported the GOP by doing so).
Why has a group that only 18% of Americans support (Tea Party) get exclusive 24 hour news coverage every week? Why does anyone care what a 1/2 term governor of Alaska has to say about anything in politics? When did a twitter status update warrant lead news story? In the end, it comes down to making money. Celebrity gossip sells, and that is what the media has made politics into: celebrity gossip.
MM has it right, get out and vote. No matter what any pundit says, no votes have been cast yet; thus no one has won or lost any election yet. Turnout is the key, and that is what the GOP is banking on for victory(low voter turn out, especially in the younger age group). If voter turn out is high, the Democrats will win...but that is a big if.
Only an energized base can get out the vote. Where is the message we can all rally behind? "Yes, we almost did it" is not very assertive.
I think it is pretty easy to energize the base...fear. Fear of a GOP run country should be enough to get every blue bleeding Democrat out to vote this November. I think that the DNCC needs to put out some scary ads that point out what the GOP actually wants to do when they take over power. Nothing would motivate people to vote more than knowing they will possibly lose their social security (when the GOP puts it on Wall St), unemployment insurance, dismantling the EPA (big coal doesn't need someone else regulating them, they can handle it themselves) & Department of Education (you think what Texas did to their school books this year was crazy, wait until there is no DOE), and all the deletions that the GOP wants to make in the Constitution. If that doesn't get you out to vote, than you are just lazy or ignorant.
The Democrats need to toughen up and use all the resources they have to hold control of the House and Senate. Where is Bill Clinton,Howard Dean, James Carvelle and the other heavy hitters. Get the big guns out and lets get things going.
No, it's unleash the base. We are the big guns. We did it in 2008, not any of the party leaders and establishment. We drove that campaign.
We could do it again if the DNC wasn't afraid we might rock the boat in the calm waters they have been bobbing around aimlessly for the past two years trying to keep Blue Dogs and Republicans happy. Reid did it to the Senate. And now Kaine is doing it in the fall campaign.
It's time to roll the dice.
Nothing is going to change unless the President rocks his own boat first. He can start by cleaning house in the Cabinet and getting rid of the dead wood that is holding us all back.
Barrack: let me stand next to your fire! The reason we are not in a winning position is because we are being out organized, and we are letting the pub's steal our message. The message and the organization needs to be fine tuned.
Agreed. We have to be operating off one single, powerful message. Tell the Big Truth over and over again just like the Republicans tell the Big Lie. Because the truth is self evident, it will eventually stick.
But our message must be simple, clear, and all our spokesperson must stay on that message, never waver.
Discipline is imperative. Don't confuse the message. Don't let any distractions from their side divert us. Enthusiasm can only build if we keep our eye on the objective. The strategy is to stay focused.
We still have all the blueprints and organization from the last successful election. There just needs to be a spark to ignite the flame again. Settle on the message and let her rip.
16 deleted, clang-2315149 calling everyone else 'commie[s]' in their first comment.
Banned, flameout.
Go Sandyh! One message over, and over, and over.
clang, clang, clang went the Trollie... ::: rolls eyes :::
undoubtedly anti Obama nuts continue exhibiting their paucity of intellect & intelligence.
Investing in infrastructure, plugging tax loop holes tilted towards big corporations, shoring up the middle class, supporting small businesses thru tax incentives, providing incentives for those businesses which create jobs here, stemming export of American jobs, no tax breaks for the ultr rich but for the small guy. Who can disagree with what President Obama proposes.
I 'betcha' though that the Obstructionist party of 'No' & their poodles would see to it that nothing moves forward until they somehow claw back to power. Meanwhile they would make sure that their policy of 'No can do' continues.
Well Obama was right in saying that its up to the American public to put the engine in"D' or "R'.
All I have to say as a proud American is that I helped elect our President Obama. and he has a job to do, and by god he is doing the best and history will tell us and give him credit for his hard work.
My question to all the American who believed in him and elected him " did you do your job??? mind you your job just did not end by casting your vote. The country is and will be in the worst crossroads of our time, we expected President Obama to come and change overnight, we wanted a fairy godfather to come and rewind and make things right... when that did not happen we choice to stab him over and over with the help of other who wanted to harm him and his presidency to begin with.
Come on people get a reality check- it took years of bad judgement to bring us at this state and it will take years and generation to correct the wrong doings. President Obama is just one of the brisks or steps that will help our generations in the future. He is making things right and without our support we will be back to square one - no where!
I did not elect President Obama to come out and clarify or justify every single comment made by Tom Dick or Harry! or BP ( Beck & Palin). He has a job to do. please help him clean the mess for our next generations. Stand up people and stop this madness that is being created by the ones we did not approve to begin with. There was a reason we did not vote for them.. Wake up my fellow American and start drinking FRESH MILK - tea is not good for your health!
Professional left, please take notice. The Pres was not only talking about republicans.
It's amazing how the "progressive" left thinks of all of us on the other side as hate-filled, bigoted neantherthals. The Tea Parties represent more than these stereotypes and furthermore, the elitist left is not as smart as they make out to be. (All you have to do is check their grammar and spelling. I would love to have a realistic debate with any one of you (Yes, I graduated from college with a REAL degree, not a psychobabble one, but a scientific one). Obama AND the Republicans have BOTH let us down and THAT is the reason for the Tea Parties. The two I have gone to had mostly older people, a lot of veterans and other concerned middle class folks. We don't think the government (ANY party in power) should decide what is best for us. they are supposed to be our REPRESENTATIVES!! if you keep underestimating us, the Democratic party is doomed. (Just save this post until after November)
Isn't your threat of doom just a tad bit premature? You (Tea Partiers) haven't finished killing the Republican Party yet. Shouldn't you finish one job before you start the next? Oh, excuse me. Drop the ball in Afghanistan to invade Iraq.
Hmmm...coincidence or theme? Connect the dots.
Dutchboy, you make a good point that BOTH parties have let us down. That is so true, as both parties worship at the alter of special interest cash. What you don't understand is that us "wacko, lefty, commie, pinko, liberals" do not think that the right wing is ONLY made up of bigoted Neanderthals. All of you on the right side sure know how to play the victim card well. The problem I see is that only one party is attempting to solve the problems (Democrats), and the other one is trying to make them fail (Republicans).
I would believe that the GOP really cared about America and wanted to solve the problems if they didn't constantly change their views and flip-flop simply because the idea came from Obama's mouth/pen. If you championed an idea less than two years ago, and now you are railing against it...I don't believe a word that you are saying, period.
Keep the hope alive that all this ginning up of anger and white wing fear will win in November. Time will be on the Democrats side, as the GOP is shrinking their cone of influence to one group: white, middle class voters. In the end it comes down to a choice between 2 or more people, and with the extremists that are winning GOP primaries I am getting energized just thinking about November.
Regarding the "doom" part, that was not a threat, merely a prediction. And regarding the Tea parties, like I said, we want this country to be more what it was planned to be at the outset: In other words, a congress representing us, not deciding for us. And we are not out to "kill" any party, just to weed out the congressmen that do not represent us. Are you happy with "everything" your party members do? I notice most of the bloggers on your side try very hard to be witty, such as comparing the Afghanistan situation and playing "connect the dots". Is it possible to discuss this like adults? The truth is Afghanistan has been a problem way back in the nineties and Obama is running into problems faced before. And by the way, has anyone noticed Bush has not said a single negative thing regarding Obama's presidency, (because it would be counter-productive)? On the other hand, according to Obama, EVERYTHING wrong was Bush's fault and everything that went OK, Obama takes credit for. (Such as the pullout of IRAQ, established by Bush before B.O. took office). Are you surprised I didn't call you names, or didn't denigrate our mutual president? But don't you agree I can disagree with what he says or does? I fully expect some of you to label me personally with some type of slur, but I still wish for a meaningful dialogue.
I am not surprised you didn't call me names, I am happy that there are still reasonable people on the right who can debate civilly. I have one question for you from your response, and then I will attempt to answer some of your questions: what do you mean by "we want this country to be more what it was planned to be at the outset"? You state that you want a congress to represent us, which is what we have today (admit it, you are just mad that the people who represent you aren't conservatives).
I will agree with you that Afghanistan has always been a problem, and that I don't always agree with everything my party members do. If you always agree with anyone, you are a puppet and not thinking for yourself. As far as war goes, I am a pacifist and agree with Ron Paul that we should pull ALL of our troops out of EVERY foreign country (including Germany, Japan, Korea, and any of the other 135 countries we have troops in).
Bush has not said ONE SINGLE WORD since he has left office. Not a peep. He is Mr. No Opinion on EVERYTHING. He is at least smart enough to know that if he opens his mouth out talking trash about Obama that he will open the door for GOP losses not gains (besides the fact that it is Presidential decorum to not talk ill of former or current Presidents). I am curious to see if he starts jumping into the political fray after he releases his book in November (which he purposely pushed back after the Nov election against his publisher's wishes).
Calling people names is so elementary school. I like debate and argument, but too many people think that when you disagree the only retort is an insult. I hope that you truly do want a meaningful dialog, as it gets boring agreeing with everyone.
Being a dog I certainly wish he were a pit bull. Be no nonsense and take no prisoners. He can do it if we push him. Please Mr. President be a pit bull and show up your teeth.
I cannot understand people who want this country run by " the average Joe". I'm sorry I want the best brains in the country to be in office. Having a degree doesnot mean you are out of touch with reality. I want people who can read and write legislation and understand its impact on society. I want competent people to carry out that legislation bearing in mind that they and their loved ones live here too. I am so sick of this nonsense about "elites". "BOOK SENSE" and "COMMON SENSE" can go together an often do.
I am a left-leaning (about as far as I can without falling over) Liberal (mostly not professional). I can spell. My grammar, unless I'm beside myself with anger, is generally impeccable. (I taught English for a long, long time.)Being a believer in truth over whatever comes in second, I loathe Republicans and swear by whatever Rachel Maddow says. I support President Obama, though I wish he would consider taking cussin' lessons from either Rahm Emanuel or me.
What I want to know is if the Prez thought, while he was ignoring people like me in order to pursue non-partisanship, that elusive political Bluebird of Happiness, we were sitting around hoping that the middle class would not, should not, could not be prospering.
If so , I wish to say only this: Sir, you got a lot of catchin' up to do.
