Will the documentary be on the web site and/or the podcast feed? I would like to watch it but don't have cable. Thanks!
I asked the same thing and Mr. Femia told me that it will be tonight's podcast...
The comments from the eyewitness to Tiller's shooting really hit home with me. I have PTSD. I know what it's like to have trauma afflicted on you by the arrogant and selfish will of another human being. Clearly, Roeder did not care how many people he hurt. His actions go well beyond Tiller's death alone, and Roeder doesn't care and will likely never care. All he cares about is justifying his own actions.
I still can't get over that this happened in a church. I would think these people would at least understand the sanctity of a church. Even to a non-believer, a church is still seen as a protected space for a community to assemble. I honestly believe Roeder is a sociopath, so his utter lack of respect for those boundaries I can understand. But I don't understand how the rest of the supposedly Christian anti-abortion culture could not be utterly horrified and appalled that this man not only committed murder but did so on church grounds. To me, as a Christian, that tells me a lot about these people's priorities.
This is a prime example of why we need to treat Feco-cephaly as the disease it truly is!
Our country needs more faptard religionistic fanatics...How are we ever gonna keep up with other(need I make a list) countries?
The way mental health funding is being gutted it won't be long till a history of psychopathy(read to include sociopathy, necrophylia among many others) has its own area on resumes!
Having met Dr. Tiller on at least two occassions, I can tell you he believed deeply in the service he was providing to women. As a Wichitan, while George is no longer with us, his belief in a woman's right to choose is far from gone in our community.
I volunteered to serve as greater at George's funeral, that was held at my chruch,as greater at hat I had the honor of working with while serving as a greeter at George's funeral, Thank You! You exemplify al that is good about our Country and the liberties we enjoy.
Thank you Rachel for showing the truth as it is known today...I'm looking forward to the indictments of Operation Rescue and other hate groups involved.
Correction to previous unreadable message.

I volunteered to serve as greeter at George's memorial service, it was held at my chruch. A moving experience I will not soon forget. Specifcally, listening to George's beloved wife singing the Lord's Prayer. To the WPD and US Marshalls who provided security, and the Patriot Guard who helped to shield the family, THANK YOU! Despite any personal beliefs on the issue of abortion you served with honor that day. You exemplify all that is good about our Country and the liberties we enjoy.
Thank you Rachel for allowing me to use this venue to voice my "piss-ivity" towards this topic, so here we go...Now let me say that it should not be an alternative to birth control but how dare anyone tell a woman what they are supposed to do with their body. It should be the right of every woman to choose whether an abortion is right for them. No one can step into the shoes of another and determine that what they are doing is right or wrong in terms of Abortion. This very topic/ discussion is why we live in a free country and have services avialble to woman that many so desperately need....
Excellent special Rachel. I'm almost ashamed of how little I knew about him and the entire situation surrounding his death. I remember reading about the attack but everything I saw portrayed him as a villain and a criminal. It's a touching story of someone with a rare sense of perseverance.
Not to mention, the entire story is such a perfect cautionary tale against people's willingness to be led by motivational hate speech and violent rhetoric.
My compliments on a very thought provoking but chilling documentary. As others have pointed out, it is easy to shrug off hate inspired speech as an expression of our civil liberties. However, there will always be someone vulnerable to interpretting those messages - internalizing them as a call to action.
Admittedly, I am sympathetic to the health care providers who risked their lives, their peace of mind and their relationships in order to do what they thought was right. My heart also went out to the women who had to make the very difficult choices regarding late-term abortion. It must have been the most gut-wrenching of choices.
Because I do not watch Fox News or any of their "talking heads" I was not aware to the degree Bill O'Reilly flamed emotions rgarding this issue. I was angered over his blatant lies that Dr. Tiller was performing procedures without indications and then taking that false claim and turning it into a chant/taunt. His actions were far more shameful than the tactics and positions of the right to life groups.
Your special reminded me once again about the dangerous rhetoric that his spewed by the dangerous voices on Fox News -- Bill O'Reilly should be ashamed of himself for contributing to the culture of hate and violence that created the environment and circumstances wherein Scott Roeder felt entitled and wholly justified in murdering Dr. Tiller -- Fox News is a place where hate, fear, bigotry, misogyny, and lies are welcomed and rewarded everyday
My main "take-away" from your special is that abortion provokes incredibly hateful statements from people who profess to be christians. I hope you will be bold (brave?) enough to follow up with a thorough discussion about that extreme irony. Hate speech disguised as religious doctrine runs rampant (think "human sexual orientation") in this country. It is dangerous and ought to be exposed and prosecuted as such.
Thank you Rachel for bringing Dr. Tiller's important work and brutal murder to light. The message that was implied, but I feel needs to be emphasized is that we have religious extremist performing acts of terrorism in this country. For all the talk about the Islamist extremists and acts of terror, it is hypocritical as we have more homegrown religious terrorist targeting American's than outside forces. They just aren't widely seen in this light. After viewing this special, how can anyone deny that the actions of Scott Roeder and his colleagues are acts of terrorists?
Rachel Maddow's superb documentary concerning the assassination of Dr. George Tiller is an important record of a tragic event that marks the history of our time. It exposes the madness of the anti-abortion terrorist movement and the chilling sociopathy of people like Scott Roeder and Randall Terry, whose agenda has been the assassination of doctors and other health workers from the beginning of his fanaticism. I know. Randall Terry has stood in front of my office and prayed for my "execution," and the week that Dr. Tiller was shot in 1993, Terry went on National Christian Radio Broadcast network and invited his listeners to assassinate me. He is a fascist demagoge, as is Bill O'Reilly, who bears a major direct responsibility for Dr. Tiller's assassination. Terry and his accomplices in the anti-abortion movement are opposed to the fundamental premises of American society including a peaceful, democratic society based on laws and the US Constitution. Rachel's excellent program should help thoughtful Americans understand that the anti-abortion movement is the face of fascism in America; it is a violent, terrorist movement that will stop at nothing to impose its will on the rest of us. Tragically, this fascist movement has been exploited for decades by the Republican party to gain power - with great success. Congratulations to Rachel, her producer Toby Oppenheimer, and the rest of her dedicated team for putting this chilling testament before the public and into the history of our time. Warren M. Just wondering why the documentary was able to supply several health "professionals" to speak on Tiller's behalf....yet was unable to provide any such professionals to speak for the other side of the story? Is there only one side to this story? Didn't Tiller just about lose his medical license in a court of law?
