"Yes, of course, we know it's not very much money. If it were real money it wouldn't be a useless symbolic gesture, and then we wouldn't be proposing it."

Hi Rachel, For a fun video cartoon on the "reasons" the would-be speaker cries, check out: www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/g/a/2010/12/15/fiorejohnny.DTL
Mark Fiore's cartoons are great, but this one with has Mr. B. explaining who he cries for.
Love your show--you are a voice for reason and tolerance. And I'm a 67 year old retired teacher finds most of what's on talk radio and teevee pretty tiresome.

Rachel, you translation skills are downright literary!
No, her translation skills are downright misleading!
Twice she said "it cut" energy consumption/bills by about 20% as if it had already been proven to be effective. Let me quote from the report so you will know I am being factual:
These are yet to be realized savings, they are predictions (which may or may not be right, that is not my point). Yet, Ms. Maddow reports them as if they have already happened. My guess is no correction will be forth coming, trivial matter those facts.
Again, another example that this show is an opinion entertainment show not a news broadcast. Which, of course, is okay, as long as you watch it with that in mind.
Translate Boehne'rs crying for the kids to his "Starve the Beast" fiscal strategy & burden Boehner is laying upon the kids' backs. Seriously, $22 TRILLION in debt P&I the last 29 years, compounding out on the kids' future? Ever heard of the Power of Compounding Interest? Rule of 72? Add another $8 Trillion in Current Account deficits. Analogy: Lake Powell contains 5 TRILLION gallons of "tears" (water). These tears can actually translate out into the EMENSE burdens his ilk propogate upon the kids he crys for so. Lot of true blue actual bonafide tears he has rained upon them. These are the metaphors of reality.
They can talk all they want to. Nothing will get pass the Senate. The only way for any house bill to become law is snagging a lot of Democrat Senators to vote for it. And the only way for that to happen is through compromise. I'm not seeing a lot of compromise after January 1st. They were stuck between a rock and a hard place in this not so lame duck session, but I think the hard place will be gone once the new Congress comes in. The lines are drawn on that day.
I mean really, the GOP added hundreds of billions to the debt but want to cut tens of millions from the debt. Are Americans really this clueless? Do they not see the GOP has no respect for the common man. They only care about the top 2%. Everyone else is just a necessary annoyance to them. The way Cantor looks at common folk is like he wants to throw up just by being in the same room as them.
Last thought...
I think we all need to realize something. Being progressive is considered the new terrorist. They think we are trying to infiltrate the highest ranks of government. We are trying to destroy the country from within and without. The "without" part Pitts spoke of was an effort to make us appear not from America but more like Al Qaeda trying to destroy us from within and without.
Think about what we are dealing with here.
They'd rather men, women and children die outside a hospital than ask every American to pay an extra 1 penny of their tax dollar to ensure those folks have health care. Think about that. Let that sink in for a little bit.
They'd rather lose a war with straight Americans than win a war with gay and lesbians in the ranks. Let that stew for a few minutes. Let it simmer on low heat.
They'd rather give tax breaks to people who don't need it but deny tax breaks for those who do need it. Run that up the flag pole. Let it wave in the breeze.
They don't care about the common man. I consider that to be a FACT.
I get tired of the same old thing every year, the whining about earmarks. The politicians claim they need to eliminate them because of our already massive deficit, but they fail to really tell you how little those earmarks really are compared to the entire budget. Claiming that eliminating earmarks will somehow make an impact on the deficit is like someone putting a new air freshener in a car that's been totalled....the car may smell better, but it's still been destroyed. The battle against earmarks is a sham, a shell game that convinces the gullible that something really is being done to curb spending, when in fact an earmark ban will never be passed by either party, and if it did, would do next to nothing to eliminate the annual budget deficit. It's a wedge issue, no different than gay marriage....it gets the base all pumped up, gets them to vote for those "heroes" that will fight that fight, but the "heroes" know full well they will continue to limit their actions to lip service once the election is over.
I have one word for the Tea Partiers out there.....Suckersssssssssss!
I hope that the President does not run for another term, it would be very hard to support him, and I have been a democrate my whole life. I was watching MSMBC last night and I agree with one of Lawrence O'Donells guest where Nora said she did not believe he loved or liked being president. He would be better suited for the Supreme Court,
