Rachel joined Jimmy Fallon on his Late Night show last night and showed him how to mix a drink called a Monkey Gland.
Of course, they also talked current events (clip 1, clip 2) and Rachel revealed where she was at the end of last week (Remember the West Coast studio on Thursday and the guest hosting by Chris Hayes on Friday?).

hmmm... not one, but two typos.
A little too much sampling of said Monkey Gland in TRMS offices today?
TGIF.
Ug. It's always the posts you think are quick and easy that come back to bite.
Can Rachel do a little pamphlet or something on all her drinks? The only thing I have in my arsenal is a vodka martini.
Exactly how did this drink get it's name? Did people actually eat monkey glands?
yeah! I want to get some good gin mixes.
Nooo...people did not eat "monkey glands".
"The Russian-born Dr. Serge Voronoff of France was the initiator of the "monkey glands" fad of the 1920s and 1930s, persuading dozens of men that pieces of monkey testicle implanted in their own testes would give them increased potency."

Edgar, the article from your link is the perfect confection of Friday night appropriate geek. It's got junk science, world history, cultural fads, gullability, (ahem) testicles, and absinthe. Who at the party *won't* have something to talk about?
Thank you. Thank you so very much.
Michele...: You are quite welcome. There is also a Wikipedia article, but it tries to hint/insinuate that Voronoff should be taken seriously.
Thanks for the #wiunion shout out! Was that Death's Door gin, per chance?? Delicious!
Yeah! That's what she used. Death's Door tweeted about it too :) Great ad for them. I need to try that stuff, it does sound good from what I've read about it. Anything to support my home state!
OMG! They make a cute couple. And that is an Oxford word now.
"That" has been an Oxford word for quite some time, actually.

To quote exactly the great Errol Flynn to the great David "Bullock Legs" Niven :
"Oh, God. So many drinks ... so little time, Bullock Legs.... Will you help me?"
(From David Niven's book: Bring on the Empty Horses)
I kind of wish there was a Rachel Maddow drinking/drink mixing show on the Food Network or Travel Channel -kind of a more sophisticated version of Three Sheets.
Can you picture Rachel Maddow in the Food Network with that hot mess of a bad cook/"cocktail" (stuff with vodka) maker Sandra Lee around? So much hilarity... lord.
crystal, have you ever read the website http://foodnetworkhumor.com/? Super super funny how they mock Sandra and her craptackular food.
Yeah in general I think Rachel Maddow might be a little too believable of a personality compared to some of their existing talent; all the more reason for her to have her own show rather than be saddled with some of the goofier personalities they already have.
Though one of the classic recipes for comedy is the double act combination of feed and comic foil (more commonly the barker and the straight man). Though in that act the feed is often mocked by the foil, so it would be interesting to see it turned on its head. I imagine it being something like Stewart Lee and Richard Herring's pairing where Stewart Lee's serious and rational responses served to make Richard Herring's antics all the more hilarious.
I adored this clip. Adored.
In spite of the *gross* name, this drink was a WaPo feature in 1923:

"'information is a vaccine for fear'; Dr. Maddow will see you now."
I have my vaccination appointment with Dr. Maddow every weeknight, or with her podcast if I miss my regular appointment.
Now we need to get the whole country vaccinated as soon as possible to stop this pandemic of fear going around!
As I watched Rachel make the Monkey Gland, all I could think about was the scene in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom where banquet guests were served monkey brains in individual little monkey skulls. Who picked that name?! I suppose its better than Horse Gonad, but not much. Horse Gonad reminds me of that scene in The Godfather . . ..
Thank you for posting the videos. and yes, information is a vaccine for fear. And Rachel does need to publish her own cocktail book.
That cocktail book would be my vaccine against sobriety.
Maybe the "book" should be its own video blog page??? with text of the recipes included after each video post.
Cocktail cook book! I want one.
I agree... plus a line of cocktail supplies (shakers, bottle openers, strainers, shot glasses, etc).
Amen! The perfect way to monetize the whole thing.
I'm long off OJ drinks, too acidy, but this is close to a Tequila Sunrise with absinthe and gin instead of the tequila... right?
Looks like it'd monkey with anybody's glands.
...and to think I once thought I was straight.
Thank you for that Rachel.
