Congressman Darrell Issa (R-California) tweeted yesterday that the "Gulf coast is still reeling...from Obama Admin's #jobs crushing energy policies." The dot-dot-dot is Congressman Issa's, I think for dramatic effect.
The people in "Stories from the Gulf," a new documentary with Robert Redford and the National Resources Defense Council, see a different cause for their economic troubles. Remember that little BP oil disaster?
"Stories from the Gulf" airs on Discovery's Planet Green on Saturday at 3 P.M. Eastern. Meanwhile, the NRDC has a page full of people who are happy to set the record straight.

While the folks at B.P. can't seem to meet their obligations
to the people in the Gulf, they did manage to get for themselves
a $10 billion dollar tax write-off for what they consider their own "losses."
Hey Issa, I see that you are not into factual statements, just like your buddy Kyl. The fact is, democrats don't crush jobs, republicans do. Through out history more jobs have been created by democratic ran governments than republican. Within the last 2yrs the republicans have voted AGAINST 16 jobs bills. Just recently several republican governors have rejected funds that would bring thousands of jobs to their states. Republicans only make laws that help the wealthy.........
After watching this, my first reaction is anger. Followed by a real sour feeling of emotions. While I will never know the true feeling of loss, because I am not from there. I can say I feel for the families with all my heart. Although I am more upset for what has been done to the natural resources. Animals can't talk for themselves......(lc)
I wanted to comment about the upcoming video, too. My reaction was much like yours. It makes me sick to think about these families who must make the decision about what to do and where to go with their lives, even as they fight sicknesses caused by the oil and by dispersants. Then there's the wildlife which, as you suggested, can't speak for themselves and are dying off in untold numbers. That BP, and TransOcean, and Halliburton aren't held criminally responsible shows how far we've slid into a fascist state. Why is it that the "little guy" and wild animals are always left holding the bag? It's despicable. Thanks, though, to Robert Redford and the folks at NRDC for creating this film. I only wish I could watch the rest of it. Having gotten rid of my teevee years ago, I have to hope I can find it somewhere on line.
With out a doubt this BP oil rig explosion damaged the ecosystem in the gulf, and the surrounding environment. People who had been exposed to the water contaminated by the oil were getting sick, so why is the party responsible for this
catastrophe not shouldering the responsibility ?
And people actually vote for ignorance and lies? I hate to think what the IQs of Issa's voters are.
issa comes from a very right wind district in Ca. which has been gerrymandered to make sure he keeps getting re-elected. In fact, in has done nothing to make life better for anyone in the State except his wealthy friends and campaign contributors.
I'm going to shamelessly repost something I posted in the thread about Benton Harbour, Michigan. Because I think this subject is so so important. And I'm afraid the subject will go away and be swept in the other news cycle.
Let's KEEP TRACK of what's happening in Michigan. It illustrates oh so well the coporate power grab that is happening in every state where republicans have been elected.
In a sense, this is all related. BP trying to get away from responsabilities and aiming for control and profit. Same story, no ?
OK so here is my demand to Rachel's team:
To ANY member of RACHEL'S TEAM who is reading this:
PLEASE PLEASE continue to read ECLECTABLOG'S OUTSTANDING reporting on what's really going on in Michigan. You haven't still connected ALL the dots !
Since I'm a new user, I can't post the direct link to Eclectablog's site. But it's easy to find.
It is www.eclectablog.com
TAKE THE TIME, PLEASE !!!!
Congressman Issa may well be arrogant, ignorant, selfish and greedy - but the sheeple voted him into office!! So what does it say about the sheeple?!?!
Congressman Issa may be all those things, but he's also one of the most dangerous men in Congress because he generally flies beneath the radar and lets the publicity hounds do the song and dance before the cameras while he quiently sneaks up and slits your throat from behind.
Issa is the Dem's punishment for not investigating Bush and Iraq.
are you sure it's not for dramtic irony or absurdity effect?
