Our new Lean Forward ads are in. They feature Rachel at the Hoover Dam and also at a diner, which I'm going to tell you from personal experience goes just about like it does here, only with eggs. Because we love you, here's the preview link to all the promos. Your reviews welcome.
Key bit: When someone tries to tell that America can't afford to be great anymore? "You're wrong. And it doesn't feel right to us, and it doesn't sound right to us, because that's not what America is."

Loved them both! The TRMS team is AWESOME! You guys/gals should win an award for your depth of research each night. Truly inspiring. You all are necessary and relevant.
People, take note: there are more than two promos here... there are eight, including the already famous cello ad.
In response to your invitation to review Laura, the ads are brilliant.
I think it would be invaluable if (in addition to the show of course) Rachel could have these sorts of informal talks with Americans in a much longer form. Perhaps a lecture series, or TV specials or something? I'm sure she has more than enough to do already, but I am almost certain she is one of the few human beings alive today who might actually be able to cut through all of the media noise that's out there right now and successfully explain reality to people.
She understands what she is talking about and communicates effectively. Both of these are rare, so to find them together in one person is golden.
Too many Americans do not understand the big picture, but maybe if she could talk to them directly, just like she's doing here, they would finally "get it" before this country is destroyed by short-sightedness, mismanagement, greed, and ignorance.
And OMFG. Dying at teh Maddowness. I will say no more on that. For now.
I never miss watching Rachel's program. She is so intelligent, passionate about her work and very informative. I do so hope she is kept of MSNBC for a long time. RACHEL DIGS !!!!
I don't know if this rumor is true, but I heard these ads are going into the movie theaters for blockbuster summer and that Spike Lee and The Black Swan guy directed them. I've seen all the ads: Rachel, Ed, Chris and Lawrence (two to four each, I think). They're all great. Chris' just ran on MSNBC a few minutes ago. They were also apparently unscripted. These semi-documentaries are terrific. They detail what each iconic host stands for: to begin with, Rachel's fav - infrastructure (although I'm sure future ones willl show women's rights, gay rights and everything else this magnificent woman stands for), Ed - working people, Lawrence - immigration/healthcare, and Chris - 2012 elections. They're crisp, they catch the essence of each individual and tie in the forward-thinking mission of MSNBC. And here I thought MSNBC wanted to replace them with The Golf Channel. Good job ALL!
I agree with you Michelle. I love the honesty of the promos. She points out something very true in the diner promo. A lot of what we see from the right is distracting from reality and drawing on fears and what people don't understand. Muslims, gays, women's rights. What people need to see is the real fear should be directed at the right, not from the right. The dangerous ideas the right proposes have true dire consequences, not just make believe ones they pin on the left. I too would love to see some sort of town hall thing, or something to reach beyond "us." Look at the situation in Benton Harbor for instance. Who outside of TRMS is remotely covering it in detail? If more did, more people would be aware of what the hell is going on there and perhaps be more compelled to speak up. Instead the rest of the media is too busy talking about that idiot with the toupee and the royal wedding.
The spots are nice, but I only look off the side of the dam where the water is. I looked off the other side once. Scared the crap out of me. All I could think of was that scene from "The Boys from Brazil" which was then in release. I might have been permanently traumatized, but I went back to Las Vegas and took copious medicinal spirits. Hey, got a better excuse? ;)
If only Republicans could turn off the Faux "News" and give TRMS a watch once in a while they might actually see some civil and reasoned discourse about the issues facing this country. Rachel is truly unique in the way she can ask tough questions in a totally disarming way. We can and should be doing big infrastructure projects in this country just as we did under FDR. Its obvious the Republicans have no plans other than to continually reward their monied overlords who have no interest in creating any jobs. The Bush tax cuts were a time bomb set to explode after his term was over. Now they cry that we have no money to do anything so spending must be cut. Democrats need to retake the House and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate or else we'll keep facing this Republican-created cycle of tax cuts and austerity. It is a revenue problem AND a spending problem. A buck is a buck, so having less of them certainly doesn't solve anything.
Rachel, you have it right! It's just hard to believe a political group would sell out our country to gain power. The fear factor is alive and well sad to say.
hey, great ads. you are an unbelievable spokesperson for the truth these days....here in wisconsin, we sing your praises all the time....even in the middle of a rowdy protest!! keep on EXPOSING all the insanity....we are in this together now....in a big way.
We are all connected, whether we realize it or not.
Excellent!!!
Excellent
Rachel - you are the voice of reason!
Granted, I am a gay man who has a crush on Rachel Maddow... but these spots are brilliantly inspiring!
No matter our sexual orientation, it seems we all have a crush on Rachel! :)
straight man. big crush.
All of you have a crush on Rachel, well, I'm in LOVE, so back off! :)
JK, having some fun!!
JMO: Howling! And I can't decide if I'm jealous I didn't think to say that first, or relieved that I didn't overshare again on the blog. Oh wait. Damn.
yeah, big crush here too.
No crush here; just deep admiration for brilliance combined with well balanced splash of humor, shaken not stirred....garnish intact.
I know replying to my own post is a bit taboo however, neglected in my earlier post is the fact that any good libation owes its success not only to the main ingredient, but also to the additives............we couldn't imbibe & enjoy TRMS without the support of her extraordinary additives!!! Here, here to the TRMS staff!!
Michele, it's all in good fun!! I'm sure that we are not alone :) in this crush/love :)
Good Job they are both very good adds..!! Now to just get those repeal healthcare adds off of MSNBC and all will be well...:)
Those ads must be being placed locally. I don't get them but our local furniture stores all have cute dogs.
Wonderful! Thank you, Rachel, for stating the truth plainly and clearly.
Love.
Not that I'm biased or anything though. ;)
Yeah, I agree, you have vision and aren't small-minded, whereas too many in public office are myopic and only see their political agenda. thank you.
Dr. Rachel Maddow,
you have filled my dreary and bleak Monday with delicious freedom and hope for our future.
Thank you-
Rhonda Winter
a new relaxed attitude with a stronger punch--i love it. saw lawrence's this morning and it just felt right, in a lefty kinda way ;) you all at MSNBC just seem to make it better, and my partner and i here in los angeles keep you on the big screen all day, even when we're not here--the pugs are smarter for it! thanks for being here for us. karyn, tarra, & the furkids
Rachel is the most intelligent, calm, persuasive, and honest voice on air at the moment. She will always have my support. GO TRMS!!!!
I especially liked the spot on Infrastructure as Inheritance.
I can see where Infrastructure Beyond Profitability would be disagreed with, at a philosophical level, by the free marketers who will insist that EVERYTHING that is work should wind up making profit for somebody. I would rather reach a point where government hires those workers; they are not on some contractor's or subcontractor's payroll, but they receive a check from the US Treasury for their work. Will it reduce profits some business could have made to do it that way? Yes. But, I have this unpopular idea that without tax dollars being skimmed off as profits, but instead all going for material and wages, not being used to fund profits, they will stretch farther.
"In times of universal deceit, telling the truth is a revolutionary act." Thank you for always speaking the truth, even when it's hard to hear.
How far do you have to go with Lean Forwards until you get to Bend Over? ;-)
Why on earth would you make promos for a show viewable in US only? I watch your show up here in Canada almost every day, but all I get is "your video is loading".
Paul, after a little bit of investigation I've found that:
I don't know if this error is specific to non-US IP addresses, but I don't think it's intentional, hope that helps :)
@ TRMS staff, I love the promos, all of them!
Excellent! ! ! Strong and to the point! Great job marketing team!
Outstanding!! Why is it that people don't see the painfully obvious truth of your comments???? So clearly factual, unbiased, and what we need for our country right now!!! Thanks for all you do to get the work out there!!!
I love them both, but the first one is the most powerful.
Good job on both promos! Both are completely spot on...I especially love the "diner" one.
The backdrop on the first one certainly speaks for itself.
And I'd love to hang out at a diner with Rachel and the crew. Heck, I'd even pick up the check.
More importantly, however, these ads both make excellent and important points (beyond "please watch our show"). Well done!
Rachael, I love your show. I've only been watching for a few weeks now, but do worry that democrat vs. republican doesn't begin to tell the whole story. Perhaps in a slow moment you might look at some of Chris Hedges' writing for perspective, or Robert Scheer who in his book about the financial melt down made a very good case for it being both parties that are selling out to wall street and corporate government. As a patriot and believer in the lofty goals that our country once laid out and seldom now honors, I don't know what the answers are, but I do love your forum of discussion. Especially finding your coverage of Snyder and Walker somewhat compelling as a Michigan person. (formerlly from Lexington Ma.)
Best Regards for sucess
Peter Clark
Rachel shines a light on not only what is important but also how today's events fit into the big pic. Thanks you, Rachel
