How do I begin a 'Draft Obama' campaign?
How do we get that guy I voted for three years ago? Where's the man with progressive values who I knew would put the country on his back and carry us away from near depression?
I voted for hope and change, and now it feels like in '08 I voted Republican for the first time in my life!
You can start by seeing what he had to deal with, with the so called super majority in the Senate:
http://blog.reidreport.com/2011/07/myth-of-progressive-majority/
Obama didn't even get a honey moon period like all the other Presidents. They were attacking him day one. Its been no no no ever since January 21st 2009.
A little over a dozen white supremacists were elected to the House of Representatives in 2010.
That group is using House rules to obstruct government. If it was one or two then it would be no big deal.
There is a specific list of things you need to do in this kind of situation, and Pres. Obama has not missed an opportunity to use all of the things on that list.
The idea is that he has to embarrass the opposition.
There are a limited number of ways to do that.
The crudest method is to do exactly the same thing as the opposition and make them contradict themselves.
That has been happening so often that the topic has become popular with comedians.
Obama is not adopting Republican tactics.
He is dragging them through the mud as best as he can.
It would be nice if most people would take a few minutes to examine the situation more carefully before they jump to conclusions.
Are you referring to the Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals? I've always been fascinated with that list. He has a list of power tactics (rules) which everyone tends to focus on. However, he also included a list of rules which determine if the power tactics are ethical. No one ever mentions that part of his rules for radicals.
Funny thing is, the republicans blasted Obama claiming he was using those rules but it appears they are the ones using the rules. Problem is they are not checking the second part of the rules to see if its ethical.
Yes, Crackhead. You got that right, son!
David Lewey is advocating the Fox News position of distortion and lies. There is a problem in this country, but it is not just the Republicans in Congress. David, do you know that every one of the news networks are owned by major cable owners? Do you know that Comcast has control of NBC and MSNBC and has begun to make MSNBC a clone of Fox News? If you don't believe me, tell me when I can hear Keith Olbermann on MSNBC? If you don't believe me, listen to Morming Joe and the pro-republican bent. If you don't believe me, what happened to Cenk Ugar's program? I could cite other examples, but this should be enough. Until the Fox News ability to pervert American values like "Fair and Balanced" is checked by free open flow of information, the country is going to be increasingly misinformed and lied to by Washington power brokers like the Koch Brothers and Antonin Scalia. I just hope we have Rachel Maddow to listen to for a long time, but frankly I don't trust the Comcast Network.
@Jimes, simply because you cannot 'hear' (or see) Olbermann or Uygur on MSNBC, does not mean MSNBC has begun to be made into a "clone of Fox news". Joe Scarborough has had a morning show with a "pro-Republican bent" on MSNBC for some time prior to Comcast's involvement. I think you are overreacting, IMHO.
Former RNC Chair Forced to Admit Facts Don’t Matter to Baggers
On MSNBC’s Hardball Friday night, Michael Steele, former RNC Chair, was asked about the Republican mantra that President Obama caused the economic catastrophe that was in fact sired by George W. Bush, he whose seed fertilized many a galactic calamity with unparalleled motility. In the context of statements made by swagger-puss Rick Perry, host Chris Matthews pointed out that this Republican hallucination was contrary to the facts and asked whether so misrepresenting the facts was fair ...

The Republican Noise Machine has been peddling the idea that everything was just great until Obama got into office. Apparently, there are a lot of people out there who either have serious memory issues or are very good at rewriting recent history.
Or both
The Repub take on the economy during the last four months of Bush goes right along with their account of the 9/11 attacks. Those happened on Clinton's watch, not Bush's. That's because Bush temporarily turned the Presidency back to Clinton on the evening of September 10 and, realizing what a terrible job Clinton did of protecting the country, took back control on September 12.
Isn't that the way it really happened?
Coach, I will never be able to scrub my brain clean of that mental image!
It's truly amazing that the republicans can just spew lies with impunity.
The tactic is called the "Barnum Effect".
CSU Fullerton has a nice write-up on how to do this most effectively.
There really is a sucker born every minute, and they seem to like tea very much.
It seems the T-Partiers and hard-righters take Bombast & Hucksterism as Facts.
Most of them want to be told how to think, others are unyielding haters who will use any means, no matter how foul to get their way.
They are dangerous in their ignorance and in their hate.
IMO, Pres. Obama deserves kudos for keeping his cool in view of the aggravation and insane opposition he's up against.
President Obama. You have now taken to the road to convince us how you're now concerned about the supporters of the Democratic Party. What your grandiose plans are. One of the first things we hear come out is about MORE cuts.
Here's a new campaign for you.
"No more cuts until taxes are raised on the wealthy and on corporations!!"
This will happen to everyone next year because of white supremacist obstruction in the House.
Obama and a few wealthy people have made it clear that they don't mind paying a bit more.
I'm sure this will be cleared up soon.
House tax rules have not made it to a vote yet, and it looks like people like Mr. Buffet the billionaire are making a pitch to the public to support Obama with his idea of fair tax rates for the wealthy.
WHY Rachel , do you not try to help organize street protests ? You have the microphone ! Why not a real "march on washington " All of your head shaking is not accomplishing anything . YOU have the platform . Why not try to lead ? We need organizing by the few who really have media positions . Please don't just make clever remarks and sneer at rightwingers . We need to start massive civil disobedience actions or nothing will change except for the worse .
Rachel is no longer a political activist. She says that her current role is not to change the world but to increase the amount of useful information in it. The burden is now upon you and me to act on that information. In other words, she is about the business of multiplying her influence.
Ditto.
Useful information can be rare and wonderful.
As was said above, @gid tanner, it is up to you to "organize street protests" or "start massive civil disobedience actions" if you are so moved by the information Maddow presents. Taking action is not the role of those in media, it is our job.
I believe the GOP presidential candidates and lurking candidates should form an unreality show. FOX could produce it.
Why fragment these great gaffs and untruths for free.
Tee's there is real money to made in the private sector. Many candidates are using the election as a publicity stunt anyway. So here is a chance to scrip history the way you interpret it and bad mouth those who are not in lock step...
Perhaps the way to get Congress to do what he wants the President and citizens should use reverse psychology and claim they dont want the things they want to succeed and they will vote it in just to piss us all off Seems to be everything they are achieving gets done
Ditto,
I think reverse psychology would have worked up to the recent debt ceiling debate. Now what he needs to do is propose his "jobs/infrastructure producing bill" and let the GOP/TP oppose it. Yes, oppose it; then they would be on the record and he and his Democratic party who are also running for office in 2012 can use it against them.
Mr. GOP in 2010......you ran on Jobs, Jobs, Jobs, then in 2011 you voted against Jobs, Jobs, Jobs....why should we re-elect you or elect you into office when you CLEARLY voted against our interests? Hellbent on opposing the President.
Brilliant Mr. President. It's time to call the fascist GOP/TP out for who they really are by letting them show the people who they really are.
Democrats need to take advantage of the "Barnum Effect" just like the Republicans.
Just pick a false statement and keep repeating the information over and over and over and over and over until people believe it.
That maybe nice for you but some of us cant wait another year and a half They need to utilize every tool they can now to help some of us that are destitude with no hope for tomorrow These clowns need to be addressed now before some of his supporters defect to the lunacy side
Looking at the republican front runner's.First Michele Bachmann. She would have to improve to be an imbisil. Here is a woman that was willing to take the country into default and trash the economy. Will one of her gaff's be harmful to the country? It could easily happen.Second Mitt Romney. He made his living buying up companies, selling off asset's and laying off it's work force, no telling how many job's and live's this guy ruined. Then last but not least is good "ol" boy Rick Perry. He think's Social Security and Medicare are unconstitutional and Lord know's what else.He like's to brag about the job's he created in Texas, however, between 40&50% were minimum wage. That's what he want's for the country,a large pool of low wage earner's for his wealthy friend's.These are just a few thing's we have to look forward to should any of these right wingnuts reach the oval office.May God help the poor, middle class and elderly if that should happen.
I almost fell into the Tea Party trap today. I was doing some volunTOLD work and ran into this lady. She gets her rent paid, some utility bills paid and food stamps. She also has 3 kids, one of which is ready to go into the Corps. I told her to tell him to keep his mouth shut, eyes open and ears cleaned out during bootcamp. Learn from other people's mistake and not your own if you can help it.
I was thinking I can see why the Tea Party gets so upset. I was getting upset.
It wasn't until I heard the rest of the story did my focus come back.
Her husband had a stroke on the job 2 years ago. She had a minimum wage job. She spends her day working at the local hotel. Her husband is cared for by a RN that comes by and works for basically nothing. She spends her nights hoping and praying her husband doesn't pass away in his sleep. Anyways, through no fault of her own, she needs a little help.
The Tea party would throw them both out and let them fend for themselves. They are truly a party that throws the baby out with the bathwater. Just because some break the rules they want to blow the whole thing up. But when some on the other end of the spectrum break the rules they don't want to do anything about it. Just let them keep breaking the rules.
I to knew a young lady that was almost in the same predicament. Her husband died, she was left with two kids and no means of support except his Social Security which was not much. She applied for welfare and food stamps and recieved little help.So she used the welfare system to help her go to nursing school. She finished nursing school and got a decent enough job to get out of the system. She now has her masters degree in nursing.I know this because the young lady is my daughter in law. Some people need some help now and then and not all are trying to game the system. So tea party, go to hell!
Trotsky ... Really amazing, considering how many of the "Tea Party" (which is really just the Republican Party) folks receive Social Security disability payments.
These baggers are the people demanding the gov'mint keep it's mitts off their medicare! Ergo, not the brightest and best the nation has to offer. Easily lead by the rich who have mastered the ability to manipulate the thought-free.
True.
The Tea Party has links to white supremacists groups and has adopted the scorched earth economic terrorism invented by Ayn Rand.
More on the unreality show

:
I think your missing it. Despite the mean and untrue things said about President Obama, I know 2 things: One hes a good person and two: he's one heck a good strategist. He is trying to demonstrate the Republican hypocrisy by giving them exactly what they want. He is trying to prove that no matter what he says, no matter what bill he tries to pass, they will ALWAYS be against it because its not about the bill or even politics. It's about him. Republicans hate him more than they love America and they will hurt America to make him look bad. That is what its about. They are trying their best to humiliate and discredit it. That's a Republican for you--a 15 year old child. President Obama doesn't have a chance to pass a bill. He should not give in to them or bother negotiating with these haters. Like the Ohio Democrats, he really need to stick to the Republicans. I ready to see some fireworks in Washington. I ready to see President Obama to light a fire under their rear ends. I ready to see President Obama call them on their hate. I hope he finds his courage someplace and man-up, and go head to head with them.
Hey, don't insult 15-year-olds like that! ;) But seriously, you were spot-on when you said:
Well-spoken. I, too, pray for Obama to confront these bullies.
If we are to follow this so called Republican job creation for sure we are in for destroying America and more of our jobs sent out of the country. Enough of trade agreements with other countries, start creating jobs in America not some other country. The Republicans are nothing but racist extremist and I am sorry their idea of religion is a joke and a disgrace. When you look at a person like Michelle Bachmann in her eyes all you see is pure evil and a brainwashed woman by her nut head husband.
Please be so kind as to call the Tea Party by their full name: The Insani-Tea Party!
Reince Marshal Priebus, GOP Minister of Prevarication
Reince Priebus, Tea Party Gauleiter and Minister of Prevarication, made his Hardball debut on Friday evening and did not disappoint. He was all that his detested predecessor, Michael Steele, aspired to be and more. A happy face, masking his party’s answer to the 'middle class question'. The final dissolution.
The beady-eyed bureaucrat could barely wait to get started, welcoming Chris Matthews to his own show. While most equivocators manage to speak out of both side of their mouths, the twitchy minister spoke through an odd half grin out of only the right side of his mouth. An appropriate tell indeed ...

Rachel,
As a loyal watcher of your show, I would like to correct you on a few things regarding your coverage of Michigan politics and Gov Snyder. First off, I while I am not a Republican, I do think he will ultimately help Michigan economically, although I dont agree with everything he does. And while I am a legal resident of New York, I couldn't vote in the last election.
The main thing you got wrong about Snyder is his SUPPORT for the new PUBLIC bridge. In your segment, you seem to lump him in with Americans for Prosperity and the Ambassador Bridge Company and its underhanded CEO Matty Moroun. When in reality, the Tea Party supported Pete Hoekstra and Mike Cox in the election and Synder was disliked by the Tea Party for his pragmatism and bipartisan appeal. Also, the new public bridge is one of Snyders top priorities, and he is being stonewalled by his own Republican legislature.
The other thing that needs be corrected is his supposed similarities with fellow Midwestern Republican governors. He has not embarked on the union-busting campaigns like the other governors. In fact, he has said several times that Michigan's union laws work ok and there is no need to change them.
So please take this into account when evaluating his policies.
I think the situation is best understood as a competition between Obama administration and the Republicans to see who can do the most damage, on behalf of Wall Street and corporations.
For example, yesterday Jane Hamsher, Bill McKibben, LT Dan Choi and about 70 other people were arrested at the White House for peacefully protesting against a Canada-Texas tar sands pipeline. For those not familiar with the issue, tar sands exploitation represents "game over" for climate change, according to Dr. James Hansen of NASA. Yet President Obama is expected to approve the pipeline, which most people have never heard of but is strongly supported by the climate-change-denying U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
A Democratic administration that believed its own campaign promises would make this issue known and take a strong stand against the proposed pipeline.
I mean no disrespect but this is my issue with democrats, liberals and progressives. I agree, climate change is the number one issue facing our children and their children's children. However, this pipeline would create jobs and stimulate the economy right?
We can't have it all ways all the time. I applaud what those folks did yesterday by standing up for their beliefs. Its a very noble thing they did.
The President faces a party of NO to new ideas. They won't ride with him on anything. And every street he goes by there are a group of liberals throwing rocks at him. The next corner, a group of progressives throwing rocks. And when he gets into the driveway there are a group of democrats throwing rocks at him. The republican and tea party folks have a GPS lock on him throwing rocks from every street corner in America.
What is the man suppose to do if anything he does makes someone upset enough to threaten his presidency? Let's just start with this, stick by the man and he will stick by us. Until then, the man is doing whatever he can to make the most people happy about whatever.
We have too many tents to manage. The republicans only have two tents. GOP and Tea Party.
PS...if that pipeline makes gas prices go down then I think we all wouldn't care at that point. BTW, Obama has signed into law many bills designed to get us off fossil fuels and curve global warming. We are crack oil addicts and the man is weening us off.
But just like everything else to Democrats, liberals and progressives, its not fast enough.
I'm so upset right now. Every President since Nixon has been trying to get us off foreign oil. Obama has been the only one who has actually did something about it.
That's a HUGE savings to us. Again, we are crack addicts on oil. We just can't cut everyone off overnight.
WHY does Obama have to work twice as hard in half the time than any other President in HISTORY?
The man can't even take a vacation. He's one of the least vacationed President in modern HISTORY. So he has to work twice as hard in half the time on half the vacation times as other Presidents!? Can you democrats, liberals and progressives give this man a break?
Here's one economist's assessment of Barack. Prepare to be shocked.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bC-EQM7YHz0
I'm still surprised I got shot up for this.
I haven't had a job in 5 years, but I was good enough to lead a squad in war, but not good enough to have a management position. Fair enough. I'll take that, just as long as our government can work together to make the states a better place.............
o_o one can dream right??
Please Make a Factual Correction on the Show.
While discussing Senetor Coburn's comments about the President, you incorrectly stated that President Obama won "a landslide" of White votes over his Republican opponent (McCain) in the 2008 presidential election. Even though Obama won more overall actual votes in the 2008 election, he did NOT actually win the White vote overall. McCain actually won over 50% of the white votes in the country, despite that fact that he got less votes overall. Obama may have won a landslide of state electoral votes, but he did not win more white votes, let alone "a landslide" of them.
Please Check the facts.
