If you want to see what's next for the Republican Party, Nicolle Wallace told us last night, tune into former Florida Governor Jeb Bush. The former communications director for the second Bush White House says her boss' brother has been talking about the need to speak to the entire country.
In the interview yesterday, Jeb Bush sounded like a Republican throwback:
"I'm concerned that we are focused so exclusively on these huge deficits and debt that one of the main means by which we get out of the mess is to grow. And if we don't grow our economy, then there's no amount of cutting that will solve this problem."
Make no mistake: Jeb Bush is a conservative who wants to dramatically lower taxes and cut regulations. But he's also willing to say that cutting spending is not by itself the answer, and that makes him stand out in today's Republican Party. Whether his voice will cut through the post-2008 purification process that Nicolle Wallace says the GOP is still undergoing is another question.

As a Floridian I was hoping the Jeb would go back to the private sector.
as were the res,t of the sane people
A Bush trying to act like he has the best interests of the country at heart. Of course he doesn't but he sounds so much saner than the current crop of Teapublicans.
I would never trust a Bush!
Good heavens, I'm struck by how little he sounds like his brother. He doesn't ham up a fake Texas (or Florida) accent, he talks about education and the environment, and he says that spending cuts aren't the sole solution to our problems. Have I actually discovered a Republican (and a Bush, even!) who doesn't make me want to vomit?
Elspeth, I agree...thought the same thing re: phony accent of G W Bushy.
The interview was a softy, never asked about teabaggies and GOP. hmmm, also he mentioned only 3 GOP candidates: 1) Perry 2) Romney and 3) Huntsman.
In my opinion, Jeb would be for Romney.... follow the money!
I think he's right about stopping payments to other countries and he sounded much more reasonable about not degrading the President.
my question is " is he real about what he is saying or is this just something he is just saying so he looks good?" not to be mean or anything but i do not believe there is a single honest politican
being from Florida i will tell you Jeb bush was not only a better governor then his brother but would have been a better president. he could be actually rational. he is truly a Republican but he at least he is willing to listen and is rational which has become rare in the GOP.
and being a rebublican is what..some one who wants to starve the elderly and let them get sick with out any help/
Now, now, Sonny...don't confuse TeaParty traitors and neoFascists with the rock-ribbed Republicans who misguidedly allowed them inside their dwelling and learned - to their horror and dismay - that they weren't housebroken.
Which only makes it sting more that his idiot brother stepped in front of him and pushed his way into the presidency.
He still would have been Republican, but surely he wouldn't be as much of a neo-conservative nightmare as his brother.
Up until the very end, I would agree with most of the comments here, he sounded both intelligent and willing to look beyond party lines for real solutions to our countries problems. That said, the very end of the interview bothered me quite a bit... "Education has always been important to Florida for some reason." Does he not understand the fundamental reason why eduaction is important to this country?
Of course he understands (they all do), but how else can you keep the sheeple docile & ignorant of what's happening if they're "educated & informed"?!
Jeb Bush is smart. He knows that not enough people have forgotten the missteps of his brother, and he knows that challenging an incumbent president by running far to the right of Genghis Khan is a loser strategy. America may be a "center-right" country, but center is still the most important descriptor. People will vote for a voice of reason, not a voice that is strident and strained. Perry, Bachman, and to a lesser degree Romney all suffer from a desire to appease the Teas. So they'll say the ridiculous stuff (like no new taxes, etc.) to get their support even though there is not a thinking person out there who doesn't realize we need to raise taxes across the board to fix this problem.
Look for Jeb in 2016. He will be a much tougher candidate to beat because (a) he has name recognition and (b) he will have the funding. Having Karlos the Jackal as a friend is also helpful.
Missteps??? Downright skullduggery and cronyism, not to mention stupidity!
Don't trust a Bush!
Make no mistake about it: Jeb is running for president. Of course, he's not running to challenge President Obama -- he's leaving that steep uphill climb to the looneys -- but to waltz into the 2016 GOP convention with no competition.
The Republican ticket in 2016 will be Bush/Christie. Count on it.
The Bush political machine is cranking itself up. They are going to market Jeb as a rational, sane republican solution; but he is a Bush, a wolf in sheep's clothing. Those people are pro corporate and anti American people. The difference is that corporations can have non-Americans involved or as members, even terrorist can be involved in a corporation. A citizen is either born here or wants and loves to be here. The difference that matters to repugnicans is that corporations can provide unlimited funding, American citizens can not.
Edward-:
Exactly! That's been the point of the entire Tea Party 'movement'... to make the current GOP look insane, then have Jeb come forward as the smooth-talking, rational, commonsense voice of the party.
This country does not need another Bush, period! Daddy was bad, junior damn near distroyed us and the son and brother will be no better. I don't care how rational he may sound.
Bush is like 9/11 we will never forget!
Sonny - we can only hope that Americans don't forget - stay out the Bushes!!
I'm with Edward. Jeb is as big a whackjob as his brother. He's just smart enough to know to hide it. For the moment.
WE MUST NEVER FORGET that Jeb Bush was instrumental in facilitating the whole "Chad incident", which allowed GW in the White House, and got us into this mess, in the first place.
You must also remember that anytime you receive mail from Florida, with some scam artist trying to get you to subscribe to their con games, that these are businesses allowed by the shady Jeb Bush's regime!!!
Don't fall prey to another Bush. Just walk away!!!
yuup!
Do you think the Bush name will be more popular or less popular than dysentery in 2016? I'm thinking "less".
The Bushes stand to profit from the gutting of public education in Florida. They wrote the book on stealing taxpayer money in Iraq-billions "unaccounted for".Neil Bush [S&L scandal] is a big player in the conversion, the family owns textbook and virtual school companies which stand to have a flood of taxpayer cash with no accountability flowing into their bank accounts.so..."Public education in Florida is important" takes on a whole new meaning when you understand the underlying reality. The Daily show recently had a guest who coaches politicians on their doublespeak, very eye-opening [and disturbing]. "Sheep, beware your Shepherd" and investigate what the real purpose behind the pandering is. Follow the Money....
I had heard that Jeb was the smarter brother many years ago.
But vote for another Bush? No Way!
Why is it a god-given right for siblings of expresidents to think that they take for granted the continuation of the family's control of the Presidency(Jeb Bush?)
It may be true that he will be a candidate in 2016,But we've had two Bushes ,where is he going to get his trust from (the tea Party?),right ! now they are on the carpet, but their rightful place is under the rug,the republicans have favored the rich ever since Nixon, and most of us were as disapionted with them but we don't want to make the rich mad, afraid they will do, just what they have already done, put millions out of work and still giving our tax money to the rich .....better wake up people..rember the rich are going to end up with the money but money flows better going up than trickling down.
I don't trust any Bush, they are all from the same mold!
Jeb was so astute as FL governor, he even updated an executive order crafted earlier in the year (01-17) with (01-261), to have martial law in the event of a terrorist attack, four days before 9/11/2001. Here are some excerpts:
The Florida National Guard may order selected members on to state active duty for service to the State of Florida pursuant to Section 250.06(4), Florida Statutes, to assist FDLE in performing port security training and inspections. Based on the potential massive damage to life and property that may result from an act of terrorism at a Florida port, the necessity to protect life and property from such acts of terrorism, and inhibiting the smuggling of illegal drugs into the State of Florida, the use of the Florida National Guard to support FDLE in accomplishing port security training and inspections is "extraordinary support to law enforcement" as used in Section 250.06(4), Florida Statutes.
This Executive Order supersedes Executive Order Number 01-17. Executive Order Number 01-17 is hereby revoked.
This Executive Order shall remain in full force and effect until the earlier of its revocation or June 30, 2003.
Of course, Rick Scott has removed all of Jeb's Executive Orders from the state's website. See, Jeb does his homework BEFORE the weekend so his big bro can visit and read about pet goats. Happy 9/11 Anniversary Everybody!
more republicans? jeb bush talks about growth but refused to build a speed rail after the voters approved it. he was one of the original right wing governors who started subverting tax dollars to faith based private companies, schools and programs, he was anti-environment in any case that interrupted corporate profit.
but no, comcast won't change msnbc, ain't that right cenk?
This guy have had his 15 mins of fame. Lets move on. We do not need another inbred Bush idiot in politics or the White House. Why are we listing to the village idiot? He has nothing important to tell us, that we don't already know, and we can do with out him.
Jeb Bush is just another hack who is making promises he cannot keep. You cannot cut taxes, cut spending, balance the budget and get the economy going again, all at the same time. The promises sound nice but are not realistic. We have already experimented with cutting taxes and regulations and this is what lead to the economic crash. Taxes should be kept at their current level at the very least even if we cut spending. Further tax cuts will necessitate even deeper cuts and Jeb knows it. These promised cuts are going to be an excuse to gut Social Security and Medicare, but no rational Republican is going to tell the voters that fact.
No matter the family name, any candidate has to adhere to the GOP agenda to get the Party's nod; therefore, I cannot see myself ever voting for any Republican . . . ever! Because no matter what the candidate says, nor how sane one looks compared to the others, the agenda is constant. The name; the face and minor issues change; the agenda stays the same.
Also, saying that Jeb appears sane compared to the present crop isn't saying much.
Remember, a vote for a Republican doesn't get you a sane President/Senator/ Congressperson/Govenor/Mayor/Councilperson, etc. - it gets you the Republican agenda.
And the agenda always comes in gift wrapped chocolate covered lies.
that taste like poo
I think Jeb is setting himself up for 2016. He does appear to be the smart Bush.
He is saying basically what Obama has been saying. In other words the way out of this mess is neither Republican or Democrat.
