The Tuckahoe train station on the Metro-North railroad was 4-5 feet under water yesterday afternoon after the Bronx River overflowed its banks. Don't see how anyone will be able to commute to work over the next few days. Its three lines, Hudson, Harlem and New Haven are all out because of Hurricane Irene.
Unclear when they'll be back up and running again. The MTA website says there is "significant damage to many portions" of the system and that the signal system is not fully functioning on any of the three lines.
Grand Central is reportedly strangely quiet with the Metro-North service suspended, although probably not as quiet as before the storm.
Update as of 5:24p.m. ET: The Metropolitan Transportation Authority resumed full rail service on its New Haven and Hudson lines, and was running Harlem trains as far north as White Plains.

Can someone explain why that guy was wading in the water?! Was that 3rd rail not functioning, cause the 3rd rail is the "juice" rail?! It's ok, the weather will be so much better after the storm no one will want to go to work anyway.....Be safe out there.....
Think the circuit breaker probably tripped killing power to the third rail.
cause if not he would not have to worry about stepping on the rail but the water it self would be enough to making him sit down.
that would be my SWAG
I love the Grand Central picture. The atrium is truly spectacular!
Big question is, was Rachel Maddow up home in Massachusetts when the storm hit, and dependent on a train-ride back through flooded-out areas? Or did she ride it out in the city, so she can host the show tonight?
With MHP guest-hosting on TRMS tonight, and saying "we'll see you tomorrow night" at the close, it seems the good Dr. Maddow is out of pocket for a day or more.... I do hope her home was not too badly affected by the floodwaters that ravaged some parts of western Mass.
i love you jo lean
I would imagine Tuckahoe would have one of the worlds most vandalized signs. I can't be the only one thinking this.
get yourself a Sharpie and a white paint pen and make TUCKAHOE, TUCKANOE on the station sign; that's how ya' get around, 'tu kcanoe' [to canoe]. :)
