Left-wing Bravery and Right-wing Bedwetting
... that is why, when liberals lead, things like the United States Constitution and space travel happen. And that is why, when conservatives lead, things like the Dark Ages, the Great Depression, and George W. Bush happen. And that is why conservatives should never be allowed to lead.
To a conservative, bravery means swaggering like a cowboy and shooting everything that moves. But when a real threat—the great unknown—confronts a conservative, he’ll wet his chaps and run screaming like a vixen in heat. It’s the liberal who will stiffen the sinews, his science and his mind and his spirit still about him, and take whatever the universe has coming.

Priceless!
Two tweets by Chris huh? Let me put my Sherlock Holmes hat on. Does this mean Chris will be guest hosting tonight? Melissa has been tweeting she's back to work at Tulane.
Doesn't the Day of Destruction; Decade of War two part series start tonight?
Affirmative, Haddie Nuff.
Keep up the great work Wolff, it is appreciated more than you will ever know! We tend to pat Rachel on the back alot, but your entire staff is Awesome!!!!!
That was definitely worth watching. Thanks for being persistent, Mr. Hayes.
Wow...remember when that was what we were taught in school. Guess the other guys in Washington went to Private Schools all their life?
that would explain alot. (Koch Brothers Academy K-12)
Agreed. I'm passing it on to be sure. Thanks, Chris.
Kudos to Oregon Representative Jefferson Smith.
Very interesting, also entertaining.
I'm all for creative solutions and agree with most of what Rep. Smith presented. I would point out, though, the Portland example he used was the product first of a single issue supporter, Allison Belcher (sp?). She was a single issue individual that made a difference to the ultimate solution.
I'd also note that he points out, single issue people/groups are not evil, not the NRA nor the ACLU. Not right to lifers or pro choicers. They are fighting from one perspective that often needs to be heard but may not have the sole solution.
Also, to answer "Whose job is it?" It is the job of leaders.
Yes it is their job....but they get to Washington and for get they work for us. They are bought and sold for four years and some of us Dumbasses re-elect them.....so it is our fault that we dont expect more or should i say....Demand better?....(they figure they know best or just look at the potential of life after politics as Lobbyist).
It would seem that the folks cited would be examples of "leaders". We seem to be in short supply... either of leaders or people willing to follow - which it is would depend on ones viewpoint of the current cast of characters living part of the time in Washington, DC.
As to your comment regarding single issue people/groups... he did point out that while advocating for THEIR single issue, it is inherent upon them to also advocate for other issues of importance to society...thus encouraging the echo chamber to echo more than one message.
Absolutely FANTASTIC!!! Thank you Mr. Jefferson, Chris and Rachel!! A breath of fresh air!!
"Public service" has become a dirty phrase in republican circles. Public servants make too much money, have too many benefits, are lazy, take too many days off, have too generous retirements, and so on.
umptim
Since the GOP says "all things government are evil" then the 4th quarant is nothing but evil I imagine. In their veiw we should idolize the rich who they say are the 'winners'
What would they think off individuals devoted to the common good? Probably brand them as socialist.
Touche' !!!
Sorry, this progressive/liberal is unmoved. It's not that I disagree with what he says: I think most everyone would agree with him (who doesn't believe they are on the side of the angels?) and so he says little. Politics is about interests. We need to stop patting our own altruistic backs and being priceless, and start demonstrating power behind our causes and why they benefit those other quadrants. I doubt MLK or John Lewis or Samuel Gompers wasted a lot of time patting their own backs.
I liked that happy orange
I don't know about any of you, but I enjoyed pep rallies during my high school years, and I surely enjoy them now, in my golden years. Every now and then we need a good old fashioned pep rally.
I believe this young man, if given the opportunity, could get a lot of folk off their behinds 'fired up and ready to go'. Spitzbud was not moved. And that's okay. Not everybody was moved when Dr. MLK spoke; but eventually (and I live it) it caught on. Whatever the [it] is. Right now, I believe we've got to find the [it] that works best for each of us individually. Then get busy creating a park by the road. My focus is on school systems. What's yours?
We are the ones with the butter.
that was wonderful..I will play it often thanks..
Richard Dreyfus has created "The Dreyfuss Initative" to promote serious public discussion, and re-instituting civics education around the country. Here's a link to his presentation of his ideas at the Commonwealth Club.

Under what scenario do democrats WIN next year November?
However good this makes one feel it will most likely be democrats who believe it, support it, attempt to implement it.
And that won't happen if democrats don't WIN. Especially if they lose the presidency. Or if they don't but make no significant gains anywhere else.
If this were 2008 and a republican were president (WAIT, isn't that what happened?).
Four years later, the economy still stinks and democrat is president.
Jump for joy? Rally the troops? Around what?
Tom Foley / George Nethercutt. Tom Foley - "it could be worse. Consider the alternative."
Americans did and UNELECTED a speaker of the house for a freshman.
Go ahead Mr. President, tell us how much worse the alternative could be.
Show us the charts, the history that tells us how bad it isn't, how republicans are NOT the answer, how cutting spending is NOT the solution.
Angry voters don't care. We were angry in 2008, 2010, and it looks like we'll be angry in 2012 - and the object of our anger is likely to be the sitting president. JUST as it was in 2008.
So WHAT between now and 2012 changes THAT?
In less than TWO years?
It took longer than two years to get into this. It doesn't look like anyone's paying attention or cares. And it tends not to be the reason we elect OR re-elect politicians.
It may not fare well for incumbents in general, the president in particular.
2014 at that rate may be a better year for democrats than 2012.
Can you say "mid-term"? And (unless something miraculous happens between now and then) President Perry or Romney.
Demotivating?
It would take some bold action from this president to change that.
Bold seems to have left the building.
At this point in his presidency it looks more like Obama is hoping for a hail mary pass
rather than an end run around the opposition.
Every election, it seems to come down to momentum.
It's not looking like the president has it or is likely to get it between now and November 2012.
Rally behind the president? A LOT easier if he actually STOOD up STOOD for something and refused to back down.
Republicans are kicking him in the teeth and he wants to hold hands and sing Kumbayah.
Republicans think it's and are acting like it's a fight.
Olive branch vs Fight club.
Fight club's winning.
