Wisconsin has set the standard for Democrats running on economic populism. Next up, Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin. The Democrat says she's running for the seat held by Senator Herb Kohl, a fellow Democrat who's retiring. Her introductory campaign ad's big on empathy for working people, right down to people worrying about their student loans.
The WaPo's Fix blog notes that "there could be some sparks over gay rights" in the race. Among the Republicans vying to run against Ms. Baldwin, who's openly gay, is the guy who says that if he got elected God, he'd get rid of teh gay entirely, not that he wants to be elected God and really he's very sorry about the whole thing where he ever mentioned that. How are your student loans, anyway?
Representative Baldwin's a guest on the show tonight. This'll be fun.

Sounds like a very smart person...'Lawd' knows, Wisconsin could use all the help it can get....passive cooperating party is not working!!!...gotta get in the dirt with the pigs!!!
I think we should restock the SPR...
"Strategic Popcorn Reserves"
Love, love, love Representative Baldwin. She's smart, well-spoken, definitely progressive, and would make a fine junior Senator from America's Dairyland.
second what she said.
Most voters are not easily fooled by candidates who think they can play the social issues instead of the real issues--jobs and the economy. Talking about the social issues reflects the lack of any ideas. The Republicans will learn that lesson soon enough.
Mike they already know....they will double, triple down til this Blue Ball is in flames......stock up on bottled water.
They can't help it. These candidates assume that since it worked in the past, it will work again. But times have changed and social issues are not the lighting rod they were in the past.

I think you are wrong. 90% of the people that vote Republican have no idea what they are doing. The vast majority of them don't make even $50,000 a year let alone $250,000. Everybody should be able to understand the simple concept that the Republican party support wealthy campaign donors. It is no secret. So, why do so many people vote to cut the taxes of billionaires when they know those cuts are going to be paid with their taxes? The Republicans lower the taxes on billionaires, and the states get huge cuts, and in turn have to raise state taxes. Perry cut public schools in Texas something like 4 billion dollars a year. Next year they are raising state taxes.
Corporations and billionaires have all kinds of attorneys and lobbyists in Washington protecting their interests. Why do the voters need to give their hard earned money to help them to the next billion. I would bet they have a race to see who becomes the first Trillionaire. I bet our country collapses before that happens. But they don't care about that, they are wealthy.
The TEA party will say they have the right to earn as much as they can. Well, I say that we working folk deserve to make as much as we can. The Democrats are the only party that supports my view. And Unions are what built the middle class and we need to see a big comback from unions if we want to see a great economy again. You put those trillions of dallars in workers hands and they will spend it and our economy will soar.
Yeas ago when healthcare became a big issue and we were trying to get healthcare for everyone through our work, you would hear businesses cry that they couldn't afford it. They would have to go out of business. They said they couldn't compete against other businesses.
Why would not be able to compete? They would have to pay ther employees' healthcare and so would their competitor. No advantage for either. But they all cried and stopped healthcare.
The Republican party lies and lies and lies and if that fails, they lie. I know because I too was naive enough to think they couldn't lie to us, but they do. I once was a registered Republican. Even George H Bush said trickle-down economics doesn't work. Bush gave big business a $300 Billion tax cut in 2003 with the help of a Republican congress. That's like telling these corporations you don't need to earn your money, we will give you the tax money of all your had workers. Did the tax cuts create millions of jobs? NO.
History shows that Clinton raised the tax rates and guess what happened. 22 million jobs. But you will hear the same old lie from the Grand Old Party. Tax cuts create jobs. A big lie, but these people haven't figured it out yet.
I was a sucker years ago. I was a Republican because one term. Christian Right. I thought the Republicans had to be good because they had the Christian Right. Man, was I ever wrong. I do not think their is even one Republican that has an ounce of compassion. The bible states that the rich need to give their wealth to the poor in order to make it into heaven. I have not met or heard of anybody willing to give their wealth to the poor. I see compassion from Democrats for the people of our nation. The Democratic party shows me the good that people have in their hearts. They are hard working. They don't mind paying their taxes. They care about all the people of
America. They believe in working hard to make their employers money. The Republican party really needs God to be with them. But God will not stand for the greed he sees there. What would Jesus do? He was a laborer and helped the poor. I believe in my heart, Jesus would be a Democrat.
Hopefully, sometime this week, Rachel will mention Romney has chosen Mankiw for his Economic Team....
BUSH: SENDING JOBS OVERSEAS HELPS U.S.
February 10, 2004
WASHINGTON — The movement of American factory jobs and white-collar work to other countries is part of a positive transformation that will enrich the U.S. economy over time, even if it causes short-term pain and dislocation, the Bush administration said yesterday.
....."Outsourcing is just a new way of doing international trade," said N. Gregory Mankiw, chairman of Bush's Council of Economic Advisors, which prepared the report. "More things are tradable than were tradable in the past. And that's a good thing."

Bush was partly right . He just left off the word WEALTHY. It will help the U.S. WEALTHY. So what if it hurts the U.S. citizens. But what can you expect from a DRUNK.
Mark Neumann was Russ Feingold's opponent in the 1998 Senate race [Think Progress cites it as 2008; Feingold did not have an election in 2008].
Of course Baldwin is smart, well-spoken, etc., etc.: she's a Smithie. Woo hoo!
Why does Ms. Maddow always get so starry-eyed when Obama/Biden start speechifying? They're in campaign mode, it was labor day weekend, so they spoke out in defense of workers. Gosh, couldn't see that coming. Obama: "As long as I'm in the White House, I'm gonna stand up for collective bargaining." I can't believe he said that with a straight face. Obama: "We are all in this together. That's why those crowds came out to support you in Madison, and in Columbus. We are one nation. We are one people. We will rise and fall together." Uh-huh. And where were you, sir, when those crowds were rallying in Madison, in Columbus? Rep. Baldwin had it right, though: She called Obama & Biden's remarks "music to my ears," then concentrated mainly on discussing where the fight actually took place, and on those who actually fought it. It's not that I don't want Ms. Maddow to hear the "music." But please, hear it for what it is. Then report on it. With all critical thinking skills intact.
What the President needs to do in the jobs speech: IMHO President Obama must make bold moves; executive orders that are the prerogative of the Chief Executive. The Republicrats will yell, but they can't stop him. We already know that the congress of baboons will never approve, but if the American people support him, Congress will look pretty bad. I believe that is the only thing that will make a difference in 2012.
