Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour has been on a tear, putting down real money to bring green jobs to the state. The latest is the solar company Stion, which picks up where Solyndra left off. Governor Barbour lured them to Hattiesburg with a $75 million loan, a lot like the $75.2 million deal he made for Calisolar.
Governor Barbour's odds-on successor, Lieutenant Governor Phil Bryant, visited the Stion plant last week and filed this video update:
We're going to see new high-tech energy moving ahead, the green-type energy that we all believe will be part of the future. But don't worry. We're going to still drill for oil. We're going to still use CO2. We're going to still use coal in our clean-coal gasification plant. Our energy policy is all of the above, and more jobs for Mississippi.
A little more: In theory, you can use carbon dioxide, C02, for fuel, as Mr. Bryant (perhaps unwittingly) suggests, but it's not what you'd want to call practical just yet.

Don't worry???
Can't ... breathe...
Too bad the governor is not putting in the same effort to improve education and health care in his state.
Seems like this quote is the part that makes the post interesting given the title. But, isn't this true for the rest of the country as well? Is there some place they aren't using oil, coal, or gas to make energy?
If, so please enlighten.
Probably are only ones who get it. That you can't stop oil, coal or other forms of energy cold turkey and expect to be successful. They realize it's not ready for prime time, but has it's place and application and aren't stupid enough to bet the entire farm (or the peoples tax money) on it.
last time I checked 1/3 of the nation's electrical grid is still coal powered. I'll let you know if anything changes RD ;-)
Thanks, Mouzer...I am on board, though, that it needs to start changing more.
I live in TX. Every morning the smoke from the fires would settle at ground level. Every morning I would smell smoke. As the Sun rose, the smoke would dissipate.
That made me think of something. What else settles at ground level every morning in America?
It doesn't matter if its "fire" smoke or greenhouse gases. Whatever America, China, Russia and etc put into the atmosphere it eventually settles in my neighborhood.
We can't get rid of this stuff overnight. WAKE UP DEMS! It will take some time. Obama raised the MPG on all cars being produced in America. That will cut down on greenhouse gases. Now he's a socialist for trying to "curve" greenhouse gases. And you DEMS jump all down the mans throat for not doing it overnight. Why does this man have to do things bigger, faster and better in HALF the time as other Presidents for you DEMS?
BUT YOU GUYS WANT EVERYTHING TO HAPPEN OVERNIGHT! You sit and claim green house gases are killing your children while you drive them to soccer practice in your HUMMER. Come on Man! Don't be hypocrites like the Republicans and Tea Party. I mean really, if you wanted next day service then you should have voted DEM in 2010. But you guys didn't!
I don't know anyone who doesn't own a greenhouse gas producing product.
Is it possible to get Rachel to "state for the record" she doesn't mind her taxes getting raised for the common good of all Americans? Or anyone on MSNBC for that matter?
If not...
Then why do you DEMS think Rachel (MSNBCCOMCAST) gives a damn about you?
All they care about is their economic position. NOT YOURS!!!!!!
I believe Keith has. I wonder if that's why he got fired.
well just the fact they are fighting for higher taxes on the higher wages earners.
would make you believe (at lease if you are thinking correctly) that they know they are in that said income bracket, so in a way they have already stated they do not mind.
simple i know. but you dont hear them screaming and crying Class Warfare to raise their taxes. just saying.
I'm about a week away from putting in my 30 day notice to MSNBC. I just have one more thought.
All these rich folks are not going to lose any leverage over their competition. If their taxes go up then it goes up across the board for all of them. So Warren Buffett loses 10% of his wealth. So does Oprah. So does every billionaire out there. They profit will shrink PROPORTIONALLY with everyone else in their demographic.
So it appears they are more concerned about someone gaining on them from the 50K economic bracket than their own economic demographic.
If the top 2% had to pay 10% more in taxes then it doesn't affect their Forbes most richest people in America except for everyone will go down 10%.
You've got to love the people that represent Mississippi, they don't ever seem encumbered by their appearance to seem "normal and knowledgeable"...
There is something about MSNBC Journalist. They are really journalist. They do not have to admit anything "for the record". They inform. Some have exercised their right to express their opinions. And as you can see most of them are Liberals. And as liberals you bet that they do not mind their taxes raised. Look at the guest they have, most of those are liberal. Why? Because, when they invite Republicans/conservatives they do not even bother to answer. The ones who have expressed their fear of having a little less money are the greedy false journalists of the conservative media. At least be happy they let conservatives post in their blog. I have tried to post is the conservative blogs and they have moderate me out.
