The audience at last night's GOP debate boos an active-duty soldier.
Victims of DADT won't get full severance.
Why did a House Republican call himself "chickensh*t?"
Thaddeus McCotter drops out of the Presidential race.
Somebody vandalized an Obama campaign office.
Texas will no longer give condemned prisoners a special last meal.

I thought the booing was horrifying, but my outrage comes from Santorum's rant about sexual activity in the military. When will people realize that being gay is not about sex. When will people like old frothy mix realize that people are human beings first. When will he realize that soldiers are soldiers. He is so afraid that a gay soldier is going to come out in the open and want sex instead of respect for his or her abilities as a professional soldier. It's disgusting what Santorum said.
Republican-sanctioned gay-bashing. At the highest level. Lovely. God help us.
It only fully illustrates the 5th grade mentality of the Republiks. It was embarrassing and shameful.
The Truth about Troy Davis and the Damnation of a Species
Davis has turned the tables on us; he’s shown merely by existing what primitives we remain: a tribe pulled to the ends of an always-growing universe and pulled simultaneously against ourselves to snap like a rubber band further back than the place where all the journeys of our spirit had begun in the first place. We’re quite the Yin and the Yang, this bunch of us—quite the men ...

The Truth about Troy Davis and the Damnation of a Species
Santorum is an idiot. We are NOT giving 'special privilege' to gay soldiers, we're simply allowing them to be who they are, which is part of the American fabric, without fear of losing their military roles. How dare the audience members boo a soldier who puts his life on the line for THEIR sake. That's gratitude for you.
If that booing happened at a Dem debate then the Repubs would pounce on the candidate for not chastising the audience.
They are a bunch of hypocrites. They stand behind the flag and cheer the US, play themselves as the patriotic party and then they have the audacity to boo a service member. Disgraceful.
I keep waiting for Perry to explain how he "Always errs on the side of life" yet is never in doubt when it comes to executing someone. I'd also like to hear details of their magical solution to everything: "We'll put that in the hands of the states". Retirement, health care, any problem the president doesn't want to face, he would just pass the buck along to the states. Yes, those same states that are suffering their own budget problems. Such a shame Thaddeus McCotter dropped out, if we're taking the country back to the 1800's we might as well have a president with a name out of the 1800's.
Santorum has always been an idiot and those folks in PA that continue to vote for him and choose him to represent them ~ well that bar is pretty low there! It is sad that the only applause that he can garner is when he jumps on the audience bandwagon boo!
And Santorum's hypocrisy especially rankles in retrospect for having opposed the invasion of Iraq (illegal, you know, and under false pretenses...had nothing whatever to do with al Qaeda, terrorists or Afghanistan) and having to endure the GOP calling liberal Democrats "traitors" and "unpatriotic." For heavens' sake, some of the very soldiers those idiots were booing were in battle protecting their rights to make fools of themselves in public!
The boo'ing -- left to speak for itself by those on stage -- reflects a class warfare Republicans don't find objectionable. Diminishing a class of people though boo'ing, voting laws, abortion regulations, language, perceived immigration status and the other acts we've seen recently is class warfare. And more insidious than a change in tax rates because attacks a person at their core, not in their wallet
This time, ironically, it was directed at someone engaged in actual warfare.
America is the people who show up. The people who show up to vote, enlist, volunteer, help their neighbors, work hard, pay their taxes, speak their minds. And if they speak their minds in Spanish or enlist to help protect their best friend, it only matters to me that they showed up.
Yes. They give a special priviledge to gays in the military. It is called not being fired for who you are!
Mr Santorum: It is a simple question: Do you support the troops or do you support DADT? And the audience has shown their position: "@!$%# THE TROOPS!"
Yep, those folks really seem to support the troops in true Republican fashion.
The traveling roadshow of Republican presidential candidates are certainly giving the American people an eyeful. Last night was another display of how far out of touch with both reality and the daily lives of ordinary Americans these Tea Party elitists really are. These are radical politicians that want to kill Social Security and Medicare, lock up American citizens for being gay, let someone without health insurance die, and impose big government conservatism on all aspects of our lives. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
Don't forget complete autonomy for the aristocrats through deregulation and freedom from all taxation. Feudalism here we come.
Delightful though it may be to hear GOP members saying "We are all Chickensh**ts now", let's consider the substance. Does this article tell use what he meant?
No.
Did he mean:
1) I was a CS because I did not hold to my pledge to the Tea Party.
2) I was a CS because I was trying to hold Disaster Relief hostage in order to enforce the "my way or the highway" theory of governing.
Because there were two very very different reasons to vote no.
I thought we were reserving this term for all the pro-war legislators who avoided military service in their youth.
I am outraged by the behavior shown by the GOP and Santorum. The soldier in the video is abroad serving in our armed forces. He is there like all the other men and women "protecting" U.S. interests. Are we ever going to be equal to the heterosexuals? Is his life no less important than the others serving in our military? No sex in the military? Santorum has to be kidding and naive to think there is no sex going on with our heterosexual troops in the military. I'm totally embarrassed as an American with the United States' political scene and disgusted with the actions of people like Santorum, elected Republican officials and the GOP. If these people would put as much energy into doing their current jobs as they put into making up stuff about non-issues, we might not be in such the mess we are in!
It makes me wonder -- do bullets or IEDs have non-gay/gay triggers on them? Or do they give a royal damn? no. so it wa disgusting in all senses.
Glad to see there is finally some focus on the assertion that tax cuts to millionaires is tied to job creation.
I LOVE Santorum's answer - "Any type of sexual activity has no place in the military". I guess all those in the military who are having sex should STOP IT NOW.
That was my reaction, but in a different way. Apparently RS doesn't want people to say "I'm gay/lesbian"-- that is going too far into the "social experiment" that he talked about. I wonder how he would react, though, to a hypothetical male soldier talking about his wife; mentioning his children; discussing a family medical emergency; getting housing benefits....
My wife recounts a common anecdote about the absurdity of Soviet Russia where she grew up. Even a kiss on the street between young people was regarded as a shocking breakdown in values. The punchline of the anecdote is that on a television show, a solid looking citizen decries the licentiousness of the west and proudly state that citizens of the Soviet Union do not have sex.
Really, Prudery just changes its stripes. In the Victorian era, conservatives would decry the liberals of society that were allowing their daughters to show some of their ankle, or god forbid, that their breasts are not kept bound flat so that there is not the least reminder that they are in fact, well... women...
The Tea Party conservatives most certainly have a social agenda, and not withstanding the affectations of libertarianism- they are only for liberty when it is liberty to be who they want you to be.... You know, part of the moral majority- if you are not christian white and straight well- the republicans have a seat for you at the back of the bus.
But there is a political calculus to this chorus of dog whistles. Ask Perry why he knows they can't talk about immigration- instead the recommendation is find the wedge issues to cleave voters towards GOP. They figure it is politically smart to bash gays. Latinos are a huge demographic who will vote with Obama except when it comes to social issues.
Anybody remember when a Republican administration considered banning Playboy from PXs? That didn't go well...
As an amateur historian who has done some work on sex and the military I find Rick "Goggle it" Santorum assertion that all sex in the military should stop as amusing to say the least. Historically when ever a military encampment set-up certain people would follow. Now not all camp followers were clean ladies of negotiable virtue(some were laundresses etc. or even family members) but some were.
But that was history. In reality and in the present day, what all of them didn't get that DADT wasn't about sex is was about honesty. To me there wasn't a honest person up there.
So on this assertion, I'm sure Santorum is poised to fight for the highest level of prosecution against the rapists who are running rampant in the military. No? Thought so.
The Repubs are very centered on Sex, which I feel means that they think about it too much, are almost obsessed with it, consider it "bad" and are embarrassed by their need for it ---- thus their dead-head remarks about the sexuality of others.
Santorums comment that sex has no place in the armed services showcases this mind-set, among other such remarks by the R.R.
Just looked at economic news. Do you guys look out the window, or is anything about the fundamentals of the economy just too unreported because you think youthful viewers will tune out?
For example: Everyone on Wall street is running for the door. Do you realize how this sounds? When you have the Treasuring Secretary getting out there to calm markets by assuring them that "there will be no more Lehmans", you know how that comes off to Wall Street? It's like yelling out the window "I don't beat my wife". Now they think maybe there is a good chance he is beating his wife.
And that lunatics advice? No shame in being a ChickenSh**t. Run like hell.
I'm sure that if Little Ricky were being attacked, he would hide behind a gay soldier as readily as he would hide behind a straight one.
Rick Santorum might possibly be too stupid to jump into a foxhole, bagelbones.
Four years ago, the Republican candidates were asked this hypothetical by Brit Hume (I paraphrase):
They all said "Yes", "Yes!" and "Hell yes!".
I offer a similar hypothetical to Mr. Santorum and the rest:
That guy would be a good one to pick - he was a giant!
I think the cheering was fake. At 1:05, they show the crowd during all the cheering. No one is even moving.

Based on this morons answer, any person who says he has a wife or girlfriend is in violation of DADT. They TOLD us they were heterosexual. I also want to see enforcement of his no sex while in the military edict. I would bet enlistments will plummet if they arent allowed to have sex while in the military.
Santorum never answered the question of "Do gay people have a right to serve there country and be proud of who they are'
Of course not.
Hopefully, all of these disgusting sound bites will reappear next year to keep them out of the White House when it gets down to the wire. Santorum is exactly what you get when you Google his name and it's making him crazier than ever.
If "sex has no place in the military" then perhaps we should discharge all those who bear children during their time of service, mothers and fathers. They've obviously had sex! As for reverting to DADT, as he said he would do if elected, mabe we should also revert to segragating soldiers of color too? You can't unring a bell Mr. Santorum.
"Sex has NO PLACE in the military." Sooooo... Santorum's answer to sex in the military is to have an army of eunuchs. That's gonna make serving reallllllllly popular!
The booing was bad, but Santorum's response showed his lack of knowledge. I don't see how a protected privlege has been granted. He's right that sex has no place in the military. Gay and straight soldiers are there to soldier. The fact is that now, everyone in the military can be honest, professional and held to the same standard. That does not grant an privilege.
DADT didn't keep gays out of the military. It kept a particular reason to discharge someone but didn't totally forbid gays from serving and dodging flying pieces of metal, glass, stones and body parts. Under "don't ask", they did not (we hope!) have to dodge any questions. In that sense they were braver and had more integrity than any of the Republicans on stage last night.
The Military should be above matters of sex and gender. So I'm going to discriminate based on sex and gender.
There is no place for sex in the military, unless you're having the wrong kind of sex, then it's the government's business.
I thought these people were playing the libertarian card? They want government big enough to get in between you and your sexual partner?
Googe Santorum. That's what is in the photo; a "Google" logo next to Santorum. Just making an observation.
While I did not see the debate last night, the fact that Mr. Santorum and the rabid right can only think about "sex" is quite telling - they aren't getting any!! The fact is, people in the military (especially during war time) want two things: 1) a professional by their side that they can trust, and 2) to know that the person they are in a fox hole with will cover their six!!
As Hamlet said "me thinks thou doth protest too much" - the rabid right's fascination with and preoccupation with other people's sex lives borders not just on fantasy, buy maybe it's a deep-seated repression that they might be "gay" - and not just in that "happy" sense of the word!! Psst GOP, please get a life and have some sex - hetero/homo it doesn't matter to me just get some!!
As usual, Santorum leads with ignorance. I have many friends who are gay, and they are wonderful, caring, inspiring individuals. Who they are has nothing to do with the "sexual activity" the GOP seems so obsessed with. I doubt those same GOP members ever give a thought to what some of their heterosexual friends & neighbors are up to! DADT is not about "recognizing a group and giving them a special privilege". It's about NOT focusing on one aspect of an individual's lifestyle, & allowing them the freedom & dignity to serve their country! This is not "experiementation with social policy" - that's the business of the Tea Party!
Too much Republican debate... I'm losing my equinoctal equanimity.
He keeps saying sex is not...should not..be an issue in the military. I quite agree. Hence I support the repeal of DADT. Putting it back in place would, in fact, be making sex an issue.
It's really only a "special privilege" if you have no idea what you've got, Mr. Santorum. But let's use GOP logic for kicks. I don't see how it's a special privilege. They apparently think being gay is a choice. Now everyone gets the opportunity to choose to be gay and open...even straight people.
Commenting on Rick Santorum's views in printable language is just impossible. He makes that sad old man who preaches on morning TV( Robertson?) look like he is almost coherent. We should all remember that Rick is a "good Catholic". He has seven kids and hates gay folks to prove it. (Doesn't that make you wonder why anyone would want to be a Catholic.) I'm not real worried about him becoming president. After all, only 1% - 5% of Republicans seem to like him. If a Democrat votes for him, that democrat deserves the government he gets.
