What a huge hypocrite Rep. Darrell Issa is, as well as a douche!
Bad comparison. Douche has use and benefits. Issa is a santorum.
There is no denying that this is the beginning of the end for Jon Huntsman. He barely squeaked into qualification for the next debate, so the game is up for him. Now we can ponder what the demise of his candidacy means for the Republican Party and for America. Huntsman is a generally reasonable, intelligent, rational man, someone whose message would have resonated with more Americans than the ignorant Tea Party rhetoric from Perry or Bachmann. Yet he is booed from the stage while Herman Cain, a man that wants "loyalty tests" for Muslim Americans, is surging. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
Michael Moore on Piers Morgan's show gave John Huntsman the "kiss of death," by saying he's the only possible, electable, reasonable, intelligent, pragmatic, etc. Republican candidate.
So, I suppose - everything being related to everything else - we all have to take the lesson from Ken Burns' "Prohibition" that every 3 or 4 generations, America goes through some sort of political insanity, whether we want to or not...and now is the time.

History? We don't do history anymore. 24/7 cable shows need news. When there is no history, then everything is news! Ergo - no history.
It is, as they like to say in DoD, a self-licking ice cream cone.
I was laid off my job a few months short of 5 years in 2007, 2 weeks later a replacement was hired at much lower wages than I was earning.
It is common these days for companies to lay off employees and rehire at much cheaper wages. All in the interest of more profits.
As we watch this greed progress and employers take advantage over its workforce, become the norm, we have to ask ourselves if this is going to continue and would we be better off if we had unions on our side.
Collective bargaining has been under attack in many States run by Republicans and the last bastions of organized labor are enduring a tremendous amount of pressure.
We see attacks on unions representing Police, Firemen, Teachers, Nurses, Postal Workers and many more.
I think we need to revisit the rights of the workers.
Unless we come together we will inevitably see the demise of the middle class as we know it.
Employers will continue to take advantage of their workers and people will be forced to work for slave wages.
Let us find a way to re-introduce the idea of Unions being good and at the same time shave off some of the excesses that have been plaguing these organizations.
BRING BACK UNIONS!!!
What is driving the cost of health care cost up another 9%? Is it the New rules or plain greed? Has Services been upgraded or remain the same? Didn't their base increase enough for them under Obama's Health Care plan? During these time of struggle, the middle class & working poor can not afford to get sick as it is. Whether a person can pay or not, we all pay the cost without questioning why is it increasing.
Because of greed!
The Vanity Fair story was a devastating criticism of America's reptilian brain- how we all made the 2008 crisis- How it was not just Wall Street greed, but our own.
Oddly, the Morning Maddow link was a tabloid takeaway mention of a digression about how Arnold started the run for Governor on a whim.
Just read a poll on the Hill that the majority of Americans trust the GOP on the economy and terrorism...I'm sorry...who was in control on 9/11/2001? Who was in charge and threw this economy in the ditch?
Who the hell are they polling?
The GOP has been allowed to take ownership of the flag, religion, and credibility as being economically competent. In the literature of politics, they have been able to convincingly paint that character in everyone's minds. Democrats have ceded this field to them and it is just plain stupid. The answer is not to argue the way out of it, but to combat the false narrative with better literature. The time to run such advertisements combating the GOP imagery is now, not 2 months before the 2012 vote.
The inconvenient fact of the matter is that many of the billionaires are actually progressives. Progressives are not hostile to wealth accumulation as the GOP would have the public believe. It is not just evoking images of Clinton and the boom times of the 90s. Elizabeth Warren says, entrepreneurs actually should keep a keep a "Big Hunk" of the wealth they create. What progressives are against is that an unfair proportion of wealth flows to a narrow segment of the population while middle class incomes are in decline and so many others are out of jobs.
They must be polling the Faux News lemmings who blindly believe the lies brought to them by Hannity, O'Reilly, etal., because they're too lazy to think for themselves. If only those same people were also too lazy to vote.
Yeah! Rachel! Thanks for mentioning the Wall Street Protests!
the goals of the protest should be simple,
1. get wall street to pay back the money to the american people
2. stop wall street from continuing the to do the same thing that lead to the crisis
- that's not complicated - you don't have to have a degree in derivatives to understand these things.
No question about it, the narrative(s) about the protest should be crisply communicated, and the summary of the goal should be simple to repeat.
Let's not be dishonest though, simplistic solutions and simplistic understandings will lead to repetition of Wall Street fiascos.
How does the public know that the Street cannot do "the same thing that led to the crisis?" I personally don't think that people do have to understand what happens so that there is some assurance that their elected leaders will address the problem effectively. We can't just be children and spend a little time helping our favorite candidates get elected and then expect they will just magically make problems go away. Taking the pressure off is why 2010 Tea Party pendulum swing in Congress happened.
Besides, it's not that that hard to understand the basics of what a derivative is. It is not hard for people to understand that insurance is a good thing, but people should not be able to take insurance out on their neighbor's house, betting that it will burn down- and in so doing actually light the fire that burns down their house. It's really not that hard to understand why Buffett calls the use of derivatives for speculation as weapons of mass destruction.
But the solution is not an easy choice. There is no question that the risk they pose should be substantially reduced. But you cannot get rid of them entirely- at some point the reduction of liquidity in the markets translates into reductions in new jobs. Where exactly that balance lies is in my opinion is the business of regulators to adjust depending on economic circumstances. However, to keep regulators independent and not captured by the industry they were meant to oversee, there must be control on the influence that the Street is allowed to exert on lawmakers and regulators.
From a process perspective, I understand there is a goal of collaborative democracy principles going on at the protest. I understand pretty well how Wikipedia concensus decision making can be effective but it can take a very long time if there are multiple sides, some of whom stubbornly refuse to go along with a proposed policy. This is not the Arab Spring- the goal is much more complex, and the foe is much more entrenched and insidious in their mechanisms of control of public opinion. This is not Wikipedia collaboration- in the end WP is involved with empirically verifiable facts, and accepted norms for encyclopediic content. The content of political collaboration often has to do with non empirical opinion and ideology, with wide disagreement on norms for how political action should proceed.
The absence of any coherent spokespersons, the absence of clearly articulated narratives will mean that the Media will simply make up narratives, and fill in the blanks about what the differing goals are. Stewart parodied this problem in his "coverage".
One possible solution would be to urge people to join affinity groups and for each to come to a consensus on their narrative and goals. That would make it easier on the Media trying to faithfully report on the voices being expressed at such protests.
Anwar al-Awlaki is dead.
Well wort the Million dollar cost! hope his green carpet and 70 virgins all have fleas or VD!
Tx. rep. Ron Paul is now denouncing the President for the assasination of an American citizen. Saying this is could be the beginning of assasination to any that do not agree with him. However, it seems to be exceptable to execute those in prison with doubts of guilt, let our citizens die from lack of proper health care, the torture of prisoners, but treason of a American citizen, in another land promoting war against America, thier assasination is unexceptable? The hatred of this president apparently goes much deeper than I thought and to the detriment of the U.S. in the eyes of the world.
With all due respect to Rep. Ron Paul, Anwar Al-Awlaki personally justified his death sentence when he decided to become a member of Al-Qaeda. The way I see it, there are 2 possible scenarios here.
Al-Awlaki personally provided the US with sufficient information to act as his own judge and jury by his act of self-incrimination, along with abetting and encouraging US citizens to kill other US citizens. That provided President Obama with ample justification for adding him to the To be Killed list. Unfortunately, Al-Awlaki can, posthumously, continue encouraging future acts of terror against Americans since it's all but impossible to redact his writings from Al-Qaeda controlled web sites.
Since when does treason, in the case of al-Awlaki, constitute a disagreement with our President?
Ron Paul is getting on my last nerve.
I want to hear the Republicans' plans to end the wars in Afghanistan & Iraq.
Also, plans to reign in Homeland Security spending?
How will they reign in contractor cost abuses (war profiteers).
These are questions which need to be asked...and answered.
They are building, again, the same kind of mess as before. And when it crashes this time they get to sink on their own. Maybe that is best. Just let them sink. Only this time put the miscreants in prison where they should have been all along;.
We should learn from our European counterparts. Who is in for a 1 day general strike.I have seen it work throughout Europe and Latin America
Why do we have attorneys trying to fix an economic problem? The only thing the congress knows how to do is to toss a lot of money at the problem and hope it goes away. It is time we did something substantial to repair health care, the economy, medicare and balance of trade deficits. We need someone other than lawyers working on the problems.
First I would like to comment on pilotshark's remarks about the "Robber Barons"---I'm so glad that I'm not the only one to recoginize the similarities---really scarey and is today a repeat of what was happening in 1900? It sure seems so!!!!! Check it out folks---go back to what you learned in US history as a kid and use the internet to read up on the Robber Barons.
Second: Today I hear from friends both in Florida and in Michaigan that they HAD NOT recieved their social security checks when expected today and, in addition, famlies in Michigan did not recieve their food stamps. What the hell is going on? Is this an isolated incident , possibly a mistake, or is there something much more ominious going on? I, for one am VERY SCARED!!!!! Has anyone else heard this?
Not enough Dem votes for the Jobs Act Bill??....{sigh} TRMS, do we know exactly who those Dems are?
“The oil-producing-state senators don’t like eliminating or reducing the subsidy for oil companies,” Durbin said. “There are some senators who are up for election who say ‘I’m never gonna vote for a tax increase while I’m up for election, even on the wealthiest people.’ So, we’re not gonna have 100 percent of Democratic senators. That’s why it needs to be bipartisan and I hope we can find some Republicans who will join us to make it happen.” ----- Who are these politicians??? Time to put them on the spot!
I say if those Dems are unable to make effective decisions, vote with their party & support the POTUS , then it time to campaign against them & replace them with someone whose willing to get the job done! Their constituents aren't ONLY 'oil companies' & the wealthiest individuals! The Dems that are on the fence about this bill need to poll the very people that WILL vote them out of office if they continue to turn away from the middle-class. It can happen regardless of the top donors.
Education Nation starts now! The untapped force that many politicians aren't paying attention to are the internet savvy Independents that retrieve any & everything they want to know about their congressman or congresswoman.
Here's a link to the Jobs Act Bill..... read it for yourself & then find out which Dem is against it & take your decision to the voting booth on election day:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/jobsact/read-the-bill
Time to get off the sidelines, support this bill & represent a generation that relies on your leadership!
re- the particle accelerator article- Project X was the code name for the mega massive Oak ridge tennesee complex, during WW@- involving the manhattan project. this Project x was a giant building to house the US uranium enrichemtn program, which of course required a lot of hydroelectric power- (TVA) and project X sucked megawatts from the power grid to operate all the centrifuges. alongside this major top secret projects buildings, was a huge camp, to house all the workers, scientists, etc.
Project Y- was the New Mexico component of the manhattan project, which we all know about( boom!)
Interesting the US uses the same designations. coincidence? standard operating procedure? or conspiracy?
And what other secret government military projects are they all working on , of a like scope , and magnitude of the Manhattan Project? I'm thinking anti-matter bomb. that will bankrupt the iranians...and drive them crazier..
GOOGLE? SANTORUM? WHY DO YOU THINK THERE IS ALL THIS INVESTIGATIVE CONGRESSIONAL POWER BEING BROUGHT TO BEAR ON A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH ENGINE CORPORATION WHOSE MOTOS IS "DONT BE EVIL"? VS A POLITICAL PARTY IN POWER WHOS MOTTOS IS "EVIL" oops- damn cap locks key! sorry!!
Today I would like to talk about voter supression espically in the state of Florida. The criminal govener Rick Scott is determined to keep anyone who might vote for Obama ineligiable to vote. The plan is to steal the election, just as they did in 2000. I have a plan to beat the republicans at their own game. I, a life long Democratic, am a registered republican----thus I get all the nasty things the RNC is putting out for their supporters. I, as a registered republican have NOT been questioned as to my ability to legally vote in Florida---I made sure everything was OK by going to the county with birthcertificate, drivers license & passport in hand & was assured I certianly eligiable to vote. Being a registered republican has several benefits, the most important being I'm crusining under the RNC radar & I get to vote for the worst republican canidate in the primaries. Yes, sometimes I do have a preference of one Democratic over the other, but as long as we have a Democratic, I'm happy!!!!!! My suggestion, why don't we all register republican & then lets see how they figure out what's going on!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
