The billionaire Koch brothers have said they intend to funnel at least $200 million into the 2012 presidential campaign. Their closest ties, so far, are to Herman Cain, who would appear to have not much for a campaign infrastructure, and yet who continues campaigning. The reason, Rachel argued last night, is that the Koch brothers fund Americans for Prosperity, and AFP is Mr. Cain's campaign:
Herman Cain doesn't have a campaign organization. He does not really have any organization, any on the ground staff anywhere across the country, including in the early primary states. Maybe he doesn't need it.
Herman Cain is essentially a pop-up candidate. This is a ready-made candidacy. Remember the big mega-funded conservative group Americans for Prosperity funded by the billionaire Koch brothers? That organization, it turns out, is the Herman Cain presidential campaign.
Herman Cain's campaign manager, the guy that recruited him to run for office supposedly, is the former head of Wisconsin chapter of Americans for Prosperity. Mr. Cain's former campaign spokeswoman, the Americans for Prosperity coordinator in Louisiana. Mr. Cain's economic adviser, the guy who came up with the 9-9-9 plan was on Americans for Prosperity board of advisers from 2006 to 2008.
At least six other current and former paid employees and consultants for Cain's campaign have also worked for Americans for Prosperity, this Koch brothers group.
While the other Republican presidential candidates are going to be appearing at an Iowa Republican Party dinner on November 4th, where is Herman Cain going to be at that night? He'll be at American for Prosperity summit in Washington.
You can read more about the Cain/Koch connection here. This morning, Steve Benen looks at the new Cain commercial and says it might all be an elaborate P.R. stunt, except for the part about the national ad buys.

Awww some haagen dazs black-walnut with AFP sprinkles and all placed on a kockroach cone.
If the Koch Brothers think that backing a black man and then have him draw black voters to the Republican party is a plan? They are really the "KochCain" Brothers....this is the most obvious motive ever. Guys...you're not even trying!!!! Slick Herman....it's not gonna work.
Apathy, complacency, illness, chatter or indifference may often be faults. On election day they will be crimes ~ Winston Churchill
guess that`s also why Rove is pushing to get rid of him, as he and the kockroach bros do not see butt hole to butt hole.
Someone needs to make a pop-up video of some cain footage.
Not surprised that those who aspire to Political Office, sell-out long before they even start their campaign.
Herman is an undercover....made to appear as a newbie....he's not. Cain was a lobbyist, and a behind the scenes guy for a long time. His history of being a sellout is noted. This plan and association goes way back folks....way back!!
You have to ask yourself...what does "Big White Money" want with Hermain Cain?....his mind?....hahahaha haha hahhah ahahaha!!!!1
and then there are those pop up candidates like rick perry and rick scott...same thing. costly slick ad campaigns funded by their Orwellianly-named astroturf backers, always the Kochs and other industries/interests that have hand-picked these guys...

Koch bros are raising Caine
A term I just heard this morning: Koch puppet. Now that brings up some interesting imagery.
And I'm immediately picturing the Red Hot Chili Peppers!
:D
When I was reading about this connection at another source, someone commented... "Looks like two white guys bought a black man."
Yeah....Herman said he did nothing in Atlanta during the early Civil Rights era. I see why...he was waiting to go back to the plantation....Herman...ya got your wish.
The Koch Bros. have a long term game of cutting taxes for the rich and ending SS and Medicare as well as other entitlement programs. Cain is just a another puppet who repeats the ideas and the lies that the Koch Bros. want Cain to tell the public. The object is to condition voters over a period of time to accept these ideas. This is why all the Republican candidates are saying the same things. Conditioning the voters will continue until public opinion reaches a tipping point and the voters willingly accept the end of entitlements and cutting taxes. Regardless of what happens in the next elections, these ideas will crop up in 2014 and again in 2016.
Mike has the idea well in hand; this is exactly the program of the Koch Brothers; they drank the Goebels Kool Aid and have been at this game for a very long time....Remember Scott Walker picked up the phone when he thought a Koch Brother had called him and drooled his spewtum for his client's approving ear.
Perry has just hired three koch suckers that were on Walker's staff last year. I'm guessing the kochs are throwing some chits toward Texas as well.
You guys are a JOKE!! Who you think propped up OBOZO?? Acorn, Soros, all of the above!! HERMAN will wipe himself with OBAMA's dress tie come NOV 2012!!! COME ON RIDE THIS TRAIN!! and right it on!! HERMAN CAIN 2012!!
oh look a new sock.
watch out you will give your self away in your first post. LOL
The mind of a typical conservative--no facts, no logic, no science, just all opinion and wishful thinking.
REBELCAUSE ... You forgot to mention that symbol of everything Repubs see as evil in our world--Barney Frank. Sure you didn't leave anybody else out?
Typical sarcasim from a right wing troll. Just can't post without name calling.
Greetings! Rachel
Simply Herman Cain is merely a figure head for the elitish, pro Wall street, and militaristic agenda. In fact all the republican candidates for Presidents are a bunch of clowns whom do not deserve to be president of these United States. Any reasonble human being whom is a citizen of this country ought to vote strongly democrat/Progressive and re-elect President Obama. It is a shame that he can only serve as President for two terms.
Peace be unto you!
Marquest Burton
I am a lifelong Republican. I have voted for exactly one Democrat in my life - Jess Unruh for Treasurer of California in 1986 (no Republican ran). I, for the life of me, cannot fathom what has happened to my party. I might disagree with the positions of public employee unions, but banning them? Finding creative ways to disenfranchise voters because you disagree with them? And this crop of candidates for President? The only one I look at and can reasonably see as President is Romney - the rest are either not ready for prime time or lunatics. But, gee, Mitt is only 80% conservative, thinks Mr. Obama was born in the USA, and refuses to call every single act by President Obama an utter failure, so he probably won't get nominated. Cain? What a joke! Never before have I seen a tax plan that hurts domestic business and the consumer while increasing the burden on people who already have little. Idiotic across the board. Bachmann? Nominate her and Mr. Obama might get a shutout.
The likes of Koch bros, the mind set, the pawns that they buy & push around on our socio-political ' checkered' board, are a bane to this country & American values.
The Koch brothers should spend all $200 million of their bucks on Herman Cain. Maybe they can get him all the way to the Republican nomination. It will end there--he can't win against Obama. The frightening thing is that, given the lack of thought on the part of voters in some states, he'll still get 100-125 electoral votes (GA, AL, MS, LA, TX, OK, NE, KS, SD, ID, WY, UT, and probably one or two others).
Obama is a Renaissance man, looking to the future, where the planet is going in its evolution. the fact that the Mayan calendar ends in 2012 does not mean the end of the world, but the transformation man will experience going forward. All Repubs are stuck in the past, and like the dinosaurs will soon be extinct if they do not have the vision to change. If science can take a chicken, and by reverse engineering create a dinosaur. Or using our own stem cells replace every organ in our bodies so that we live to be 150 years old still looking youthful,is already in process, how can we ever elect people of no vision again.
Herman Cain is a dinosaur, as are the Koch brothers, and all the greed heads in the Republican party. Their money may enable them to win 2012, but I do not think so. The planet has its own way of shedding the old, and allowing the new growth to come forth. If it did not we would still be swinging in the trees.
The Koch brothers have really brought out the meaning "Tar Baby" with Herman Cain along with "Rubber Ducky" in Scott Walker.
Did you read the Mother Jones article about the smoking guy and his connection to Wisconsin?
I hope the fact that the Koch Bros. also opened up an office right near the capitol as well is noted in the inevitable segment TRMS does on this ad.
While working the last election in Kansas, on of the field directors said that Kansas was a 'testing ground' for Koch's purchasing of elections with out lifting much of a finger. Worked pretty well with some serious nutjobs winning where they shouldn't have. I think that this 'invisible' campaign is damn scary because they know how to make it work.
****This topic deserves a special report program on the influence of ALEC and who those people really are and what are they really up to. Is GE preventing much reporting into ALEC??
I hate to say it but Herman Cain is a Republican token black. They can say that they are not racist, not bigoted, all because Herman Cain is on their side! I'm not fooled!
Just like they're for women's rights and concerns by allowing Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann to play, too.
This is such a travesty. I can't believe the world is watching, and this is what they are seeing.
But instead of being embarrassed, the Koch brothers are doubling down. There is nothing ethical about these two, and they should be thoroughly investigated; legally dealt with if need be.
Rick Perry once looked like a sure nominee too. I can't wait for the double-talking Cheshire cat to flame out as well!
you'll probably be able to hold your breath while it happens!
We always knew this despicable "Uncle Tom {Cain}" had a snake in the closet....send in a mongoose for the snake and put the "Uncle Tom" in the back alley for the trash men to pick up and dispose of properly.
The fact that some of these guys (and one lady) are taken seriously and given so much air time should wake up concerned and rational people to the need to eliminate the real possibility that one of them might be elected. Even those who are critical of the President on some issues, are sick of Washington and "the government" and are troubled about the economy need to muster what $ they have, their time and enthusiasm to make sure the President is reelected if only to block some crazy from getting into the White House. If they get discouraged and sit on their hands the Really Bad Guys will take over.
Maybe I'm the only one who thinks this, but it doesn't seem to me that Cain contradicted himself about abortion at all. He said he doesn't think abortion should be legal. Then when asked about cases when a woman is raped, he said "That's her choice." Sounds to me like he was saying a woman has a choice in whether she's raped or not (blame the woman), but she should be denied an abortion of the resulting pregnancy.
And now he's been accused of sexual harassment. Makes you wonder about his general attitude about women.
I wonder if Cain's new ad has something to do with the outrage over the ban on smoking in places like bars. My brother-in-law, a bar owner in TX, is losing his customers because of this law. Or it could have just been a threat, that things would get dirty.
