OK, so yesterday was Crazy Town, right, with the new Herman Cain allegations and the radio guy with the F-U song, and attorney Gloria Allred and some other stuff. Last night Rachel ran through the roster of operatives connected to the Herman Cain bid, and then she opened her heart to the conservatives we know watch our show because of the hate mail they send:
The Herman Cain art project, which seems to be a conservative cause, which is attracting lots of conservative support, is something that has no campaign staff, right? No substantial staff of its own. It appears to be bankrolled, possibly illegally, by the billionaire owners of the largest privately held oil and chemical country in the country, whose political group, Americans for Prosperity, is run by a former associate of Jack Abramoff.
Hey, conservative voters, I know that you're not my biggest fans, although I know some of you watch because I can tell from the hate mail. Listen, just -- this is meant as advice and I mean it in a big-hearted way. I mean it in a legitimate way.
I'm a liberal. I would love for Herman Cain to be the Republican Party's nominee for president this year. Part of me tells me I should shut up, right? But just as an American, if I'm speaking to you as a conservative voter, I just want you to know, these guys are pros. . . . These guys have done it before. They know what they are doing. They now appear to be reassembling the old team to give it one more try -- and that one more try is you.
Consider yourself informed, duly. Below, part one of Herman Cain as performance art project.

Really? We have to endure propaganda from Exxon about the Tar Sand project just to hear you make fun of Herman Cain? WTH? It makes TRMS look stupid to be hosted by these ridiculous advertisers. I thought it was part of the joke at first.
Oh grow up. Every dime Big Oil wastes trying to convince TRMS viewers of their drivel is a dime not spent wrecking the environment.
You want to hit them where they live go buy an electric car.
You should know that any organization that does not have firewall between news and advertising is not a journalistic organization.
I believe the word you're looking for is "ironic." Feel free to preface your new word with adverbs like painfully, disconcertingly, or stultifyingly.
E.G. Exxon-Mobil is so Machiavellian in there attempt to co-opt the world that they take the disconcertingly ironic step of wasting money by advertising on Rachel Maddow's show & blog.
The difficulty with intellectual property is that their is an owner, and the owner is entitled to make money.
It might be wise to remember that General Electric owns MSNBC, therefore this intellectual property ultimately belongs to GE, which is closely related to big oil.
GE is the entity that is making money on this video, and TRMS must ride piggy-back.
It stands to reason that the most profitable business in the world would own TRMS because TRMS is popular, therefore profitable.
Would be nice if profit did not interfere with the view.

Exxon? Seriously? You don't have enough control over this blog to keep their stinking ad off your virtual real estate? Faker. Who would believe anything you say now.
there is a wall between advertising and editorial content. look it up.
Completely agree with anotherone -- definitely put off by the Exxon ad before the video. In fact, it makes everything said afterward quite suspect.
OH yeah -the commercials they sell/show are SO contrary to the views of the network. The advertisers do this on purpose to confuse people on issues - They're watching TRMS, so they expect to see something that agrees with their views. Great semi-subliminal way to deflate opposition.
View of the networks and positions of the advertisers are often unrelated - Take heart, it happens on FOX News as well. Just best to be aware of it!
Actually in many it fosters frothing outrage. BP, Exxon-Mobile, Bank of America...their commercials show precisely how deeply their fingers extend into our lives. Don't listen to the advertiser's hype. Get pissed. Stay pissed. Watch everything you do, where you buy gas, where you park your cash...and keep it out of their hands. Look up all the businesses the Koch's are involved with and boycott their products as well.
anotherone ... My goodness ... you think you should have the choice to pick which ads come on before this? Believe me, TRMS has nothing to do with the choice here. Poor conservative outlook, even the ads are out to get you'all ... It's the message stupid not the delivery system. I bet you didn't even what what she had to say.
you guys do know she has no say over the advertising right? jerks
why does she have no say? This is HER BLOG!
ffs

lmao @ Foxglove, as if any blogger gets to hand pick the ads on their site & that Rachel designed and manages this blog personally.
I don't think the internet works the way you think it does.
I knew it,this guy was just too weird to be real! I can understand someone not knowing a few things that watching the nightly news should have given them, Sarah Palin for example, but to be such a dolt in so many ways? What is really sad is how many Republican'ts buy it. This is a big tell as to what our national problems are.
I am wondering if - as a possible corollary to the Cain Campaign as Performance Art theory (which I totally buy) - the Koch Brothers have also funded the Bachmann and Perry campaigns in order to have a collective block of electoral votes that they control at the GOP Convention in Tampa. Then they are "players" in the smoky back rooms, too, and can dictate who throws what support to whom in order to get whatever fascist policy they want written into the platform the nominee has to run on.
Neat way to test that theory. Ask them all what their position on Iran is. You can guess what they say. Then ask them what their position on companies which do business or have trade with Iran is. Any Koch backed candidate will protect Iran as an important business partner of their backer. What is good for the Koch's is good for America after all. Maybe they'd do a full Reagan and sell them weapons. If selling weapons to the people who held Americans hostage was good enough for him, why not? They made him look like a hero when those prisoners were released on the day of his inauguration. Clearly he owed them a solid.
Ah, DonQ...so good to see you again!
Your test only works if the candidate is intelligent enough to distinguish Iran from Iraq and to find it on a map. I doubt either Perry or Bachmann can do this and I further doubt if the Kochs really care; they only care about those votes at the end and whatever other chaos and confusion the candidates create along the way is just fine with them.
Carolina, I can't tell you how badly I missed you and everyone else. And I notice some voices missing of those who I HAVEN'T missed. Have some rightwing regulars been banned for life in my absence? The one person I'm still missing is Uff. I've heard he is MIA. I hope he is alright.
Uffy's been missing since August...can't figure. No word of departure. I miss him, too and also hope for the best.
RE: the trolls, I suspect that they just keep returning under other names...;D
I've already enountered a couple who I didn't recall seeing before. And at least one regular...but there's nothing particularly egregious being said so I've got no cause to complain.
I do understand why people can get annoyed at the self-serving Exxon ad. (Redundant, I know.) But of course, that's business, and if TRMS doesn't sell ads, it goes off the air. Now, as to the ad itself, geez, what a subtle bit of BS. "We want to be energy secure, and it's right here in North America". Yes, it's in Canada. That sure doesn't make us energy independent, does it?
I wonder how much of the money that's flooding into Cain's coffers this week are from people like me.
"Yeah sure. Pick that guy to be your candidate. Go ahead, here's $20, RUN him."
Brilliant! Turnabout's fair play. They run fake dems in primaries, we contribute to whack repub campaigns...
How about if the only money in political campaigns came from donations from tax payers? What if the only way/amount to contribute was to check a box to donate a dollar on your tax form. Then we wouldn't be battered by endless political ads on TV, and the opposing sides wouldn't have tons of money to run smear campaigns against each other. They'd each have only enough money to print Vote4me signs. A couple of sanctioned debates a month or two out from the election, and that's it. (and btw, just because you don't pay federal taxes doesn't mean you aren't required to file, so poor people get to check the box, too.)
Utah Mormon money doesn't belong in a California election, and the Koch Brothers shouldn't be allowed to buy politicians and elections.
Jus' sayin'.
Unless Democracy, like the Tea Party, is just a public relations sham designed to pacify the public while the money men loot the cooling corpse of a once great and beautiful nation.
also, for folks who do not seem to understand how the content wall functions, or anyone who would rather not see exxon ads, which i'm guessing is all of us: firefox with noscript and adblock.
this is helpful, unlike your first response, thank you for practical advice, will implement
Don't blame Rachel for the advertising. That decision is very likely being made by a (currently) unknown programming director working for Time Warner. Here's a link to see a list of cable networks who's advertising is managed by TW.

Cain a clown?
It's 24/7 here with Team Maddow keeping the collectives' eyes OFF the prize, fixated on dragging down opponents and losing sight of THE MIA narrative and visual/graphic demonstration of how & why the American voters have been voting AGAINST their own economic interests for some 30 years running now (save the period when Clinton intervened for a brief 8 yr stint). Reagan's legacy: $30 Trillion red ink in 30 yrs in trade and budget deficits/debt.
It's just tribal and gang warfare here with TRMS crew & peanut gallery ... moving us forward NOT an inch as a movement to reclaim our nation, the American Dream. How else is it rationalized that Nate Silver & Chris Matthews' panel of (10 of) 12 insiders both arriving at 83% probability that America would return the White House and the running of the government back to Republicans "stewardship" in 2012. Dems stand just a 17% chance... so they say! I don't doubt them.
WHATEVER the Dems and LEFT are articulating about the disasterous accumulating 30 years of policies by conservatives & republican... is NOT resonating with Americans... because the LEFT simply doesn't know how to even DEMONSTRATE or account for the bankrupting failures of the 1980 Conservative Revolution taking this nation into the ditch with all their FEEL GOOD borrowing ways in trade & budget... till they just can't rationalize it no more via an idiot TEA PARTY REVOLT! Those clowns, via their votes, CAUSED IT ALL!!!!!
It's much easier to poke fun at Cain... or other easy political muckraking like that. He's a clown, we get it. Worthy of debating and fixating on?? Clowns??? The job of progressive staffers... to fixate on clowns? Good grief... we get the nation we deserve if even THE BEST of the LEFT occupies ourselves with clowns.
I agree; this segment could have been half as long and the extra time given over to other issues.
I disagree. I like dedicating time to publicly outting sexual harassers. One of the obstacles many women face when dealing with harassment is the feeling of being alone and with it the emotional reasoning that, because they are the only one, that must mean they brought it upon themselves. Further, raising the public's awareness that these perpetrators are often committing these acts against many women helps take away the stigma that, "She was dressed slutty and therefore asking for it."
That might not be a cause that you particularly care about or will ever impact you. Privilege must be nice. But it's an important one, regardless.
Several minutes of the segment were devoted to Howard Stern's lackey punking the press conference, which had nothing to do with anything and was a complete waste of time. I don't give a @!$%# about that; do you give a @!$%# about that? Does that have anything to do with sexual harassment?
0-2:00 and 2:30-4:50 cover Howard Stern. At 8:45, the segment on sexual harassment ended and the remainder of the video is about Koch-Cain connections and corporate machinations to dupe conservative voters. Of 8 minutes and 45 seconds, 4 minutes and 20 seconds were devoted to Howard Stern's stunt, leaving 4 minutes and 25 seconds wherein sexual harassment was actually discussed. Therefore, fully half the segment could have been cut without removing any vital information.
And finally? Don't assume my gender, please and thanks.
Or, you know, they could have kept the entire length and that extra 4 minutes and 20 seconds could have been spent talking about, I dunno...the problem of sexual harassment? Or sexual assault? B/c what Bialek described actually qualifies as assault. And how women who come forward with allegations are subject to character assassination and how this was true of Anita Hill and oh look, not much has changed in twenty years. Or about how accusations of harassment or assault should make a candidate toxic, but how, mysteriously, said allegations seemed to improve Cain's chances, and what that surge in donations says about how conservatives view women.
I don't know about you but I would have much rather listened to that hypothetical segment than the one we actually got, which was half straight video of Bialek with precious little commentary, and half off-topic bull@!$%#.
I spoke of Cain in the abstract. He's a distraction, a clown... there are "millions" of issues that matter... to somebody. The Big Picture has been LOST. When Team Maddow and the rest of the professional Left "concentrate" on those millions of detail minutias that make up the American fabric... they have totally LOST sight of the FLOW of the America Dream via the drip, drip, drip that has turned into a RAGING SWOLLEN AMAZON RIVER (monsterous trade & fiscal deficits: DEBT) of Republicans STARVING THE BEAST over the last 3 decades and Bankrupting America in the process over 30 long but short years (compared to the first 205 yrs (1776-1981)... America is now SUFFICATED under the TRIPLE DEFICITS (fiscal/trade/regulations... lack thereof; a huge deficit of regulations) to the tune of $30 Trillion in just the past 30 years... and THAT's just the starters, accounting wise. The American economy, the House of Cards Hero Reaganism built, has imploded. FREE TRADE reigns over Fair Trade. Imports have suplanted JOBS. Tax & Spend Liberalism has lost out to Charge-it & Forget-it Conservativism. The Future WAS mortgaged... and still is being via monsterous deficits.
Which doesn't mean we can't TAX & SPEND... to stimulate and rebuild America. It is NOT either or.
But yes... why don't we FIXATE on all the clown issues Republicans love to side-track America with as they let their 1%ers loot the hell out of America while DEMS have their eyes FOREVER OFF THE PRIZE. Way to go Team Maddow! Ratings and eyeballs are comprised of grocery stand magazine cover faire.
What is needed is a serious critique of capitalism, but if you are expecting the professional left to present that, I think you will continue to be disappointed.
Sadly, Mech, you're spot on. To brave that topic, the orchestrated fabric of America, is just TOO MUCH for weak-knee Soapbox Stars' bosses and their Ratings/Listenership/Viewership/Readership Machinery, those with MainStream muscle behind them.
I just got finished listening to an NPR story re Rockville, Ill TURNING OUT their street lights! And ways to hold cars for higher ransom via IMPOUNDING. This is the America tribal conservatives have turned America into, bankrupting OUR nation, and letting the 1%ers run off with all the loot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Trade & Fiscal P&I red ink costs over the last 30 years: $30 TRILLION... and NOW compounding at the fastest rates EVER... never mind the BABY BOOMER time bomb now starting to detonate, NOT fixing it back then, but LOOTING the @!$%# out of America.
I would shoot myself in the head if I was a staffer to a National Soapbox and could NOT get the show FOCUSED on the REAL PROBLEM. Dylan Ratigan & Crew are the ONLY ones doing that, BURIED in daytime hours, with too small of viewership. The rest titilate with tribal opposision muckraking, eyes so far off the prize it's sickening.
Firefox browser and adblock = no more Exxon ads.
Seriously! I can't believe this isn't common knowledge.
(I guess it can't become TOO common...)
A bit too Glenn Beck-esque
Herman Cain Raised 2.8 million in 3 months before sexual harassment. Then he raised 2 million more AFTER the allegations. Where is this money coming from? No one knows yet. The campaign is certainly NOT saying or volunteering this TOP SECRET information. This is not a transparent election campaign.
The right wing Faux News outlet is saying that the left wing controlled media is just making up all of these sexual harassment charges.. All of these women are also part of the left wing media conspiracy. After all, we all know that these four (or more) women personally OWN all of these corporate controlled media that allow only false charges and attacks on right wing candidates.
Meanwhile, this conspiracy of left wing media is NOT reporting on the fact that the Koch Brothers may be illegally funding for campaign events, through the Americans For Prosperity shadow group. Where is his campaign volunteer team? According to other political Presidential candidates, Cain no credible election arena volunteers or teams in the states that matter. His whole campaign is funded SOLELY through this 'non profit' organization, according to Rachel Maddow.
Is this really Conservative grass roots activism? Or is it 100% corporate funded propoganda? Maybe we should start defining grass roots community activism, as corporate controlled, corporate sponsored and corporate paid for; a la Koch Bros and their corporate allies. Do your own research, dig deep and find out where the money is coming from. Follow the money. Learn the truth.
The Exxon engineer in the new ad seems much more sincere than the satanic crooked-smile smirker they had before. The money Exxon wastes buying the ad is money they won't have to make mischief somewhere else.
Having to view Exxon ads before getting to TRMS video is just part of the deal of being sold out to BigBigness. Comes with the territory of being in the pocket of the "Masters". Maddow doesn't control the advertisements on her Blog? You bet she doesn't! Welcome to the Plutocracy.
Jail Cain! Jail Cain! Jail Cain! Jail Cain! Jail Cain! Jail Cain!
OK. I'll stop.
Perhaps the fix is to block Newscorp.
A magician (Koch brothers) draws your attention a distraction (Herman Cain) while doing something else. Herman Cain is a distraction. What else are the Koch brothers up to?
They're good at sucking in TRMS Team that's for sure... and pretty much everyone else in the rank and file of the Eyes-Off-the-Prize Professional Left... and thus all their (we) clueless followers. A three ring circus... for ratings & profits!
With preoccupations like this... Who even knows we've been tossing an anchor overboard for 30 yrs via artificial stimulus anchors (when we were BOOMING mind you) with fiscal and trade deficit SPENDING to the tune of $30 Trillion in P&I and trade deficits over 30 yrs to the point the STARVE THE BEAST conservatives say we can NOT afford to STIMULATE and SPEND our way out of this great depression now. I guess their STARVE THE BEAST fiscal & free trade policies worked... we're finnally starving. Conservatives won! Economy sunk. House of Cards imploded. 1%ers ran off with all the wealth.
The Koch Brothers mock the American political system with their candidate Herman Cain. As master puppeteers, the Kochs deftly manipulate their rapt audience to cheer for a bumbling, inept puppet. Theatre of the Absurd, Act III: Herman Cain's candidacy cannot be logically explained. Just go with it, folks, it's entertaining. Sit back, relax and enjoy. No worries, 9-9-9 will take care of everything. Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.
when this first came out, this is what i thought of "the smile". i still believe that was the real thought in his head....

feel free to share. ;D
Cain's fifteen minutes of fame are over. The Koch Bros. and Republican voters will move on to another candidate. But the MSM needs to keep doing coverage about what groups are contributing to various candidates, Republicans and Dems. It works well with the news coverage of OWS. The American public deserves to know who is buying Congress and the candidates.
What could the goal be if the Koch Brothers are behind this. The only on I can think of is to occupy the news cycle and keep it from both Romney and Obama. As long as we are talking about this fiasco they have to come in second or third place in the news cycle with less time to articulate their message. If that is the Koch Brothers intent then it is to clear the stage for Rick Perry who probably ended the Cain fiasco because it was time.
Amy Jacobson, a WIND radio co-host, witnessed the Cain/Bialek encounter a month ago while backstage at the AM 560 WIND sponsored TeaCon meeting in Schaumburg, Chicago. They hugged each other backstage in a full embrace like old friends. Now Herman Cain said Tuesday, "And as far as these latest charges, I don't even remember her - I reject all of those charges - how can I defend charges when I don't even remember this person by name? I don't remember that she did work at the Educational Foundation, and when I first saw her...I didn't even recognize her." Oh, Really? From only a MONTH ago?
I don't know of one guy who wouldn't remember a "strange" woman coming up to them and in a full embrace, hugging them. And, only a month ago.
You nailed this one Rachel. Your clip ought to be required viewing for anyone registered as a Republican.
