2 oz of Laird's Applejack --You want the bonded kind. Bonded means it's 100 proof, 50% alcohol. It's better than the blended kind.
3/4 oz lemon juice
3/4 oz orange juice
1/2 oz maple syrup -- Use grade B, that's the darker kind.
No Garnish. Except your "I Voted" sticker.
*As listed in Jim Meehan's newly released "The PDT Cocktail Book," which even has a neat little video:

I can't wait to make this drink for Thanksgiving!
Thanks for the recipe Rachael, but the Washington State election was bought by Costco at $22 Million, or $6 per voter which is the highest in the state's history of initiatives, and almost all of the pro Initiative 1183 money. We went from a state controlled liquor state to a Costco and Big Box monopolized liquor state. We will lose jobs (state workers, wholesale and distribution workers, and some small producers) while the big box stores profit from people's demand.
You criticize big money in politics but raised a toast to big money buying an initiative to make hard liquor several times more accessible? And who pays for all the damage done to lives? Not the liquor distribution and retail sale industry. The initiative raised the state tax on liquor paid by the customers, which won't go where it helps but to the general revenue fund the legislature and Governor decides. Will they focus the money on law enforcement, emergency medical, fire and accident response, and justice agencies and people promised in the ads when we're facing massive budget shortfalls everywhere?
The people may have spoken but big money won the day, and the people will pay the price.
If you like applejack then you should check out Cornelius Applejack made locally by Harvest Spirits. Its made in small batches and aged in old bourbon barrels and it is great.
Hey, I'm liking that new Citrus-Squeeze-Cam!
I'm seriously glad there isn't any overly-sweet children's cereal in this. Would give me Applejack nightmares.
The cocktail sounded scrumdileumptious! I'm not going to make it though, because after 2 of them, the bottles of applejack and maple syrup would sit around in my liquor cabinet for maybe the next 10 years...there are only so many of these one could drink, one supposes, before one's teeth begin to look like George Washington's ;D
You can try my method: I didn't have any applejack, so I substituted rum. I did have some orange juice (bottled) and lemon-lime soda, so I used those. After all the tasting, I forgot about the maple syrup entirely. It really was a great drink!

Still waiting for a friend of mine from Vermont to send me some :)
Would one be required to HUG the Maple Syrup?
i guess that since Rachel didn't do it (i was hoping she would), and because it doesn't have a garnish, the rule for the Applejack Rabbit is 'don't hug the syrup.' #RickPerry
I gotta ask -- where's the "here's how" toast coming from? My family's been saying it for years, but only as a reference to the miserable-and-alcoholic family in Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey Into Night." Secret O'Neill fans at the Maddow show?
Has anyone found a handheld citrus press big enough to handle oranges? I'm stumped.
This may be a way late response, but I wanted to say each year at Christmas I mix a different cocktail for the family to taste (older children) and the Apple Jack Rabbit is the winner. Looks like that is the one from now on. Being in Mo. I could not get the full proof Apple Jack but only 80 proof. Works wonders anyway, yowzaa.
