So Rick Perry's getting out of the race. The Texas governor leaves so many great moments, from the "oops" to the hugging of the syrup. But Steve Benen suggests that his openness to immigration reform doomed his bid. This bit, from September, sticks:
“If you say that we should not educate children who come into our state for no other reason than that they've been brought there through no fault of their own, I don't think you have a heart."
I guess having a heart is just not in this year. Governor Perry is throwing his support to Newt Gingrich, who wants poor kids to work as janitors. Republicans still have Mitt Romney, the frontrunner with the dog on top of the car, and Rick Santorum, who would annul every same-sex marriage in America. Also Ron Paul, who's still against the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

WoW newt has the P`s behind him now,, Perry, Palin
Mitt needs to win Big now that Iowa is really a lost but called a spit.

damnit, dammit, dammitt, damn mitt, bahaha.
I want someone in office that can make a real decision, not someone that just friggin agrees with whatever he's told to do. Sorry about the above ADDing...
The crowd is one that boos The Golden Rule and cheers the Death Penalty. His immigration stance took some courage in the field of scarecrows and tin men.
OH, GAWD!!!!!!!!!!!!
For the love of humanity, PLEASE don't send him back here to Texas!!!!!!!!!
He's all yours. You broke him. You bought him.
seems he'd be better off never having run....at least before it was only rumors outside texas that he's dumb as a rock, now everyone knows it for sure.
have been following texas politics since my daughter moved there 6 years ago, its mean, its ugly, its regressive, its bigoted, its ignorant.
i feel for you bd2346505 : ) move! or if you can't, hang in there!
-from a proud member of north texas progressives living in colorado!
Anyone notice how Perry wiped off his wife's kiss during the drop out speech? He's actually a very creepy guy. Brrrrrr
Well, let's be honest, it's not like he's ever REALLY had to run for any election besides Lieut. Governor, and even then, he barely squeaked through.
Why are all the candidates that God told to run dropping out? Bachman, Perry, and Santorum is sure to be next. God is never wrong, so could it be that God had nothing to do with it? I suppose they would contend that God's encouragement still served a purpose. If you ask me, the purpose was to expose their many shortcomings to the electorate. But I really don't think God had anything to do with it; they were just using God to try to appeal to the evangelicals. I have a feeling God will get them back for that.
dont forget Cain.
guess God not have a good year so far he is 0-3, he might have to go to the bull pen and bring in the holy spirit.
I hear the holy spirit has a wicked slider and changes speeds effectively. The Cubs have been trying for years to get him, but they only got Marmol - wicked slider but doesn't change speeds well.
I didn't know God was a Republican! ?(
God is sick and tired of them using his name and he decided to play a little joke on them.
The way I see it, God wants us to be entertained, and you have to admit, Perry, Bachmann and Cain were awfully entertaining.
If a very pious Rick Perry can support Newt Gingrich then there shouldn’t be a problem for the rest of us, even moderate democrats that haven't yet fallen under the tyranny of progressivism should reject Obama and support Newt Gingrich for President.
Let’s see, John, Bobby, and Teddy Kennedy all had open marriages. What about ‘Bubba’ and Hillary’s marriage? Are seditious progressive democrats going to tell me that marriage is not an open marriage? But wait…‘Bubba’ is the elder statesman for the DNC, this would be hypocrisy if the democrats had any morals to defend…but of course they don’t. The fact the lame stream media is going after Newt after he publicly pleaded for forgiveness just shows at what lengths the ‘Progressive War Machine’ will go to prevent a Newt Gingrich Nomination. Why hasn’t this same liberal bias media gone after Obama’s sealed college records? Maybe because they know something about Obama we don’t know and that is Obama was a Marxist paying for his college tuition will foreign scholarships and loans. Contrary to what the ‘Progressive War Machine’ propagandizes, the DNC would rather face a mild mannered Mitt Romney than a fierce ‘William Wallace’ on the battlefield of the political arena.
The more the lame stream media attacks Newt, the more true conservatives will rally around him. Face it most Republicans don’t want Mitt Romney to be the Republican Nominee just because the RNC tells them to accept him as the heir apparent to the Republican Throne and seditious progressive democrats of the DNC do not what Obama to meet Newt Gingrich on the debate field because Newt will make mincemeat out of Obama during the Presidential Debates!
This November the American Citizens must choose between staying the course of Obama’s secular socialist machine or restoring the Republic and the Constitution to its rightful place in government. Indeed this upcoming presidential election is the most important election in U.S. History since 1860 and every American Patriot should rise up and make the effort to support Newt Gingrich in his quest to restore American Exceptional to its former glory and end the tyranny of democracy.
what a bunch of drivel.
Rush talking points. Anyone else catch the implication that there is a difference between a democracy and a republic? That's one of Rush's big deals to sucker in sheeple. My brother-in-law started parroting that one, so I gave him the definition of each and he couldn't tell me which was which.
And don't get me started on "restoring the Constitution." The W Bush Administration did more things to destroy the Constitution than any administration in our history.
Who is this guy???? DugJamul?? Thank GOD those thoughts never win elections!!
KJ,CR,IA
good catch. new it had a formalities to it just could not place it.
@Pilotshark -- "what a bunch of drivel", that's progressive code for "You are correct but I'm duty bound not to agree with you on a public forum or it might risk validating conservative thought or talking points.
@KJ,CR,IA -- I'm sure you have no clue what the relationship the Constitution, SEDITION, Socialism and Republicanism has between them. But if your brother-in-law really want's to know the correct definitions, he can always log on here and I will tell him.
@Anne Ferber -- 'those thoughts' have been winning elections since 1790, but it's been getting harder lately due to progressives controlling the federal public school system and non-citizens voting.
For record...I have been preaching "Restoring the Republic and the Constitution to its rightful place in government" long before conservative talk radio begun to jump on the bandwagon.
The difference between Gingrich and the Kennedys and Clintons is pontification. Gingrich and the Republicans have had so many sex scandals while professing their respect for "moral values." The biggest hypocrisy is Gingrich pushing Clinton's impeachment while Gingrich and Hyde were having affairs. If those affairs had come out during the impeachment process, the Republicans probably would have lost control of the House in the next election.
Aside from that I would concur with Pilotshark--the post is drivel.
"The biggest hypocrisy is Gingrich pushing Clinton's impeachment while Gingrich and Hyde were having affairs.", this would imply Gingrich was solely impeaching 'Bubba' for having affairs...not true [an ongoing fallacy of 'The Progressive War Machine'], the truth is 'Bubba' was impeached for charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.
So once again a progressive is caught in a lie, or misstating the historical facts! But what's new!
The post was 'drivel' to you because it is based on factual data that goes against your political dogma therefore cannot be acknowledged by progressives for fear of validating conservative thought or talking points.
The facts are 'Bubba' and Hillary are in an 'open marriage' but it matters not to the seditious progressive democrat that has little value of marriage in the first place.
"Why hasn’t this same liberal bias media gone after Obama’s sealed college records? Maybe because they know something about Obama we don’t know and that is Obama was a Marxist paying for his college tuition will foreign scholarships and loans."
Hmmm.....good point....Maybe because nobody really cares how Obama paid his tuition or what his actual college transcript looks like, just like nobody really cares how George W. Bush even managed to get accepted to Yale and how much they have to pay for the C average he got there? But that's just my crazy progressive opinion.
Ohw...and "John, Bobby, Ted, and Bubba" didn't run around campaigning over sanctity of marriage while behind close door peeing over their wedding vow.
The charges of perjury and obstruction of justice were not clear cut. Clinton parsed his words as any good witness would do. Impeachment on those charges was bogus and Henry Hyde admitted it before he died.
@Mike Paganucci - "The charges of perjury and obstruction of justice were not clear cut. Clinton parsed his words as any good witness would do. Impeachment on those charges was bogus and Henry Hyde admitted it before he died."...so freaking what? It does take away from the fact you were making incorrect statements about why Newt was OFFICIALLY Impeaching 'Bubba'....just admit you were wrong....can you do that?
@Duggie - "if your brother-in-law really want's to know the correct definitions, he can always log on here and I will tell him." I take this to mean that you have some uber-sophisticated definitions that far exceed those amateurs at Webster. That should be entertaining.
Troll, or parody? Tough call.
@Adawnrae yeah that's what I am wondering. Sarcasm is so hard to detect w/o the #sarcasm hashtag sometimes.
I should point out that this person has blogged here before and has been banned before for making inappropriate comments. Just as an FYI. The seditious compliment is a dead give away. Sighs.
Couple of things:
1) Presenting an ad hominem argument while simultaneously talking about how you are more intelligent than other people is contradictory and creates this weird paradox that only people in the blog-o-sphere seem able to create- a reality in which you are contradicting yourself while contradicting yourself. This is why logical fallacies should be left alone. I guess we're all just lucky not to be robots
2) RE: The PBO should release his college transcripts argument. This is a red herring. It has nothing to do w/ the thread topic, nothing to do w/ your initial premise, and as a stand alone argument does not mean anything salient
3) By conceding to Mike that there wasn't a logical reason for attempting to impeach Clinton you have openly contradicted yourself....again
4) We are a Democratic-Republic. I am not sure why you insist on dropping the "Democratic" portion of that. If you feel so inclined to go out of the way to factually correct other people on trivial matters then I'll treat your presentation the same
5) The United States Constitution establishes America as a secular nation. This is yet again another contradiction in your post
6) Thank you for openly admitting that you want to "...end the tyranny of democracy." The United States has never been a sole republic. It has always been and is constitutionally founded to be a Democratic-Republic. By asking that the "democratic" portion of that title to be dropped you are stating that you do not want to follow the US Constitution. Which is fine if that's your personal belief- go right ahead. However you contradict yourself by then asserting that by fundamentally altering the constitution from it's original intent and historic application you will somehow be restoring and upholding it. So either a. you openly reject the democratic applications of the US Constitution and want them dismantled or b. you do not openly reject democracy and therefore you're lying when you call democracy "tyranny." Which is it?
The united state of Texas formed from the blood of Tennessee hillbillies who stalled those Mexicans at the Alamo while the rich and shameless cattle barons rallied in an effort to drag the United States into their fight to steal land from Mexico.Imagine that, they wound up with all that oil in the bargain but of course illegals are not welcome.
Since Perry is ready to forgive Newt for his past and all his transgressions, can you imagine what the reaction of these self-same religionists would be if Obama ever asked Michelle for an open marriage?
Yes, Democrats have committed transgressions in the past but they never featured in their platforms, the sanctity of their "God approved" positions on human behavior. Hipocracy reigns.
Anyone notice that Sarah Palin, in her quote supporting Newt, mentioned that America made a mistake in 2008 for not vetting the candidates??? Was she talking about herself???
Rick Perry's campaign had gone down in flames long before his belated acknowledgement that he ought to give up the race. He was polling under 5 percent in South Carolina, so there is little chance of a shocking movement in the polls among Perry refugees. But Governor Oops' prayerful decision to withdraw marks another smack at Mitt Romney and the GOP establishment's attempt to anoint Mitt as the de facto party nominee. Conservatives are slowly being forced to coalesce around a non-Romney alternative, and with Santorum having actually won Iowa, things may not be so rosy for the Mittster. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
Well, it's not like we didn't see it coming.
I hope that his (lack of) performance on the national stage has knocked some of the shine off how Texans view their governor. Those folks could use some competent governance.
Newt and Mitt are in a statistical dead heat according Rasmussen and Insider polls released yesterday. Perry was certainly soaking up a few supporters that will go to Gingrich and Santorum. Those few supporters may be enough to push Newt into first place ahead of a slipping Romney.
To play the expectations game, this is ground Newt really ought to be able to win on. I see this as an analogue to Mitt in NH. If Newt is going to have any chance at all for his "true conservative" narrative, then he needs to kick Romney's butt in SC. Personally, I don't see that happening.
Apropos of "no path to victory", Gingrich is not doing well with the voters he claims he represents. Sure, he's having fun and he's selling a lot of books but that's not really why we have elections. He needs to declare a moral victory, pat himself on the back for "shaping the narrative" and go back to K Street.
Pay no attention to "Dug". He will never post anything that doesn't put down the Democrats. He was even banned from Hannity and other right wing blogs. He's been banned from Ed's blog. All he is about is right wing talking points, lies, hatred, and disruption. That's all he's ever done.
HE has no clue what the constitution says. Notice it's always about agreement. He says he's been banned because he disagrees. He's been banned for disrupting, posting hate and anger, posting LIES, and generally disrupting the discussion. He has NEVER added one little possitive thought.
OH, forgot to mention, he's also one of those recieving a "Gov't" check every month.
As far as likability in the GOP contenders, I would rate Perry #1(Newt being the least likable), it's a shame he's dropping out. He made the debates entertaining; now it's just depressing.
Duggie, you've still never shown the evidence of voter fraud. You must mean that 0.000003% that has beem documented. I believe if you look, schools are "public" and have private citizen school boards. Please show all these Liberal controled schools. Also never answered about all those socialist programs Obama has started. But keep up the lies and spreading your right wing racist hatered, it he;p show what the GOP is all about. You consider 80 corruption convictions, 2 affairs, 3 marriages, the ONLY speaker to ever be kicked out a good candidate, also shows exactly what the "moral, family values party is all about.

http://dailycaller.com/2011/07/29/mississippi-naacp-leader-sent-to-prison-for-10-counts-of-voter-fraud/#ixzz1jq8NfGhs
"
While NAACP President Benjamin Jealous lashed out at new state laws requiring photo ID for voting, an NAACP executive sits in prison, sentenced for carrying out a massive voter fraud scheme.
In a story ignored by the national media, in April a Tunica County, Miss., jury convicted NAACP official Lessadolla Sowers on 10 counts of fraudulently casting absentee ballots. Sowers is identified on an NAACP website as a member of the Tunica County NAACP Executive Committee.
Sowers received a five-year prison term for each of the 10 counts, but Circuit Court Judge Charles Webster permitted Sowers to serve those terms concurrently, according to the Tunica Times, the only media outlet to cover the sentencing.
“This crime cuts against the fabric of our free society,” Judge Webster said.
Sowers was found guilty of voting in the names of Carrie Collins, Walter Howard, Sheena Shelton, Alberta Pickett, Draper Cotton and Eddie Davis. She was also convicted of voting in the names of four dead persons: James L. Young, Dora Price, Dorothy Harris, and David Ross.
In the trial, forensic scientist Bo Scales testified that Sowers’s DNA was found on the inner seals of five envelopes containing absentee ballots.
This wasn’t Sowers’s first run-in with the law. Sowers previously had her probation revoked for disturbing the peace at a junior high school library, the Commercial Appeal of Memphis reported in 1990. During a hearing at that time, Sowers played the race card. She claimed to be the victim of “an attempt by powerful whites to silence” her, the newspaper reported. It didn’t work. She was ordered back to prison to complete the remaining two years of a three-year sentence she received for check forgery."

"GA: WSB Investigates Non-Citizens Voting in Elections
2 Investigates: Non-Citizens Voting In Georgia Elections
Local Leaders Admit To Not Keeping Accurate Records
Posted: 5:49 pm EDT October 28, 2010Updated: 8:09 pm EDT October 28, 2010
ATLANTA -- A Channel 2 Action News investigation found at least three dozen non-United States citizens on Georgia's voter rolls, seven of whom actually voted in our elections.
The total numbers could be as high as 605 non-citizens registered to vote, and 220 who voted. State leaders could not confirm the exact numbers because, as our investigation found, no one keeps accurate data of non-citizens who live here.
"It doesn't surprise me, but it does concern me. Obviously we don't want one single person canceling somebody's vote out much less 250," said Georgia Secretary of State Brian Kemp.
Channel 2 investigative reporter Jodie Fleischer teamed up with reporters from the Atlanta Journal Constitution to compare the state's voter rolls with county records of non-citizens."
Let's see now, I have shown you and your ilk around 19 pieces as voter fraud, you and your ilk have yet to acknowledged any of it....can it all be wrong?
Nope, you and your ilk refuse to accept the truth of the matter....living in a 'Liberal Bubble' is no way to go thru life son...wake up!
19 pieces. Now do the math, Dug. What percentage is 19 of the total votes in Mississippi and Georgia combined? And did you bother to do any research on voter fraud among Republicans, or are you giving them a pass because they agree with you? For that matter, these articles don't even say which party the fraud favored; you're just assuming it was the Dems because one was a NAACP leader. As for "living in a bubble," there are dishonest people on both sides of the aisle. If you don't believe that, you're the one in the bubble.
First of all, liberals have never denied the existence of voter fraud. What we keep trying to get through your heads is that NONE of these situations can be solved by those fill-the-state-coffers scams known as Voter ID laws. Because if I'm a Canadian citizen living in Texas with a valid Texas driver's license and "current" voter registration, what's in the new law to stop me from voting in the next election? Nothing.
That's what annoys us, this pious attitude about "fixing" problems that don't exist. Voter fraud isn't about people showing up to the polls 100 times, yet that's the only behavior these so-called "solutions" address. And why we know that you're not sincere about addressing ACTUAL sources of voter fraud.
Mucho, well said. I've been saying for awhile that as a Canadian citizen, living in Virginia with a VA drivers license AND a US Military ID card ... what's to stop me from voting if photo ID is THE ticket to avoiding voter fraud? It's completely illogical.
and to think over 90% of them was either a misspelled names, transposed numbers, a worker mistake, etc...
Almost all voter fraud is US citizenry based as Pilot pointed out. Only a handful of instances are cases of non-citizens voting. I agree that non-citizen voting is an issue, but there is no documented evidence proving that Voter ID laws will actually help solve this problem. I do not like the government wasting time, money, and effort putting forth legislation based solely on surface logic. Whether or not Voter ID's will work is an empirically knowable thing. This is not a hypothetical. Several states w/in the Union have already implemented Voter ID fraud and it has not reduced their fraud rate beyond the rate of their non-Voter ID counterparts. Nor has it significantly affected the rate of voter fraud, if it's affected the rate at all. what this tells us is that Voter ID laws don't address the issue at hand. If we want to seriously address voter fraud then let's seriously address it. Wasting our time on legislation that will only gum up the system is not efficient government and does not protect the vote. It's pointless, bloated government.
Dug All public schools are liberal controlled. If they were conservative controlled public schools would be shut down. Educating children is the responsibility of parents not government. Just look at what our public schools produce....welfare recipients!
Hi roscoejones!
A recent Gallup Poll showed America considers themselves to be conservative at around 41% while Liberals where at 27%.
@The Mouzer -- Your post is nothing more than Progressive propaganda and conjecture, I challenge you to back up what you have said with actual data.
@MuchoMoxie -- "what's in the new law to stop me from voting in the next election? Nothing.", photo id would help reduce 'Zombies' from walking up on election day and receiving a ballot without being challenged as James O'Keefe exposed in New Hampshire.
@80sGirl -- "what's to stop me from voting if photo ID is THE ticket to avoiding voter fraud? It's completely illogical.", true...very true and do you now see how the democrats in congress created the perfect crime? If that photo id is not backed up by a citizenship validation process then the photo id just makes sure dead people are not voting.
People have a right to drink alcohol and own guns, but they can't walk into a liquor or gun store, sign a form stating they are a citizen and walk out with the booze or a gun. But seditious progressive democrats think it’s perfectly fine to do the exact same thing to vote, why? Because the know non-citizens are voting, their votes are being counted, won't get caught and democrats win again.
LOL more comedy thanks its been a slow morning here
" Your post is nothing more than Progressive propaganda and conjecture, I challenge you to back up what you have said with actual data."
and yours? i say the same to you. LOL
and the circle jerk continues on the right
...Dug you are the one who is claiming that Voter ID laws work. You are the one making the claim therefore it is on you to prove that your claim is valid. States like Colorado, as an example, have Voter ID laws and according to the Colorado Electoral Commission the ID law has not impacted voter fraud. If you are going to claim otherwise then you must provide documented evidence as much. I am all for Voter ID laws if they work, but there doesn't seem to be any evidence suggesting that they do. Unless you can prove that they do then you are advocating for the very same bloated, wasteful government that you deride. In which case you are being hypocritical.
Wow...K so you might actually want to read the empirical study instead of making wild conjectures. The majority of Americans- more than 80%- are neither conservative or liberal. The difference, however, is that a lot of people will label themselves liberal or conservative when they are in fact neither. It is almost impossible to find a person who is actually a conservative or liberal and almost always when you do find someone who fits that label it is a single issue voter. Most people, as an example, favor gun rights but they also like social security. You yourself are a recipient of government welfare, yet you do not favor Obamacare. This does not make you a conservative it makes you a moderate (like the majority of Americans). There is a difference between what people claim to be and what people actually are. The poll in which you are referring accounts for this in the actual study, which is why it's important to look at the actual study instead of an article giving a review about said study (since the article will not include this information).
The majority of voter fraud that takes place are of valid US citizens voting, but who made errors such as incorrect signatures or who filled out absentee ballots that were not mailed in and/or labeled correctly, etc. When voter fraud does occur that is valid it is almost always of felons voting or intransients: people who would be allowed to vote if it weren't for the current voter registration system. As I told you last time the voter registration creates these instances of voter fraud. Very, very, very few elections have instances of non-US citizens voting. But even those that do you are the one who claimed that Voter ID laws should be passed to stop this, yet you have provided no evidence of how Voter ID laws would accomplish as much. If we want to talk propaganda here who is engaging in it? You, the person who backs up their statement w/ no facts, or the people who challenge you asking for your evidence? I think you might not understand what the word propaganda actually means. As I said advocating for laws whose affect can be empirically studied w/o insisting on that evidence is just lazy and imprudent. One reason as to why our government is as bloated and overspent as it is rests solely on our inability as a citizenry to demand evidence of things that are evidentual. That would be one thing if Voter ID laws could not be studied...but since they are not a hypothetical we should not be treating them like they are a hypothetical.
This is a contradiction. You are openly admitting that Voter ID laws will not work, yet you are advocating for them anyway. You are stating that the only way they would work is if additional invasive pieces of legislation were passed, yet you have not explained how. Again both of your claims would be empirically knowable yet you provide no evidence to support your claims. And then you, as you did before, contradict yourself by stating that the very thing you support is not possible and therefore should not be passed. So which is it: are voter ID laws a useless piece of government legislation because they won't work or are they necessary to protect our democracy and therefore they will work perfectly w/o additional, non-Voter ID law related changes to the system?
The rest of the country won't miss Gov. Goodhair!
Although your show is my favorite on MSNBC, on occasion I watch the others. And the next time I have to listen to them interviewing Latino leaders just to ask them if immigration will sway our vote, as if that's the only issue we are concerned with, well, I think I'm going to pull my old out of style hippie long hair out of its roots. After all, those of us who have been here for generations are also struggling by the bad economy George Bush left behind, and like everyone else we also want to educate our kids.
Speaking of hair I think Rachel looked stunning wearing that wig last night.
How dare you sir! Accusing a Texan of having a heart is a hanging offense(so is breathing). It is a well known fact that Texans have oil for blood and a fuel pump to push it along the pipelines.
You see when we say deep in the heart of Texas we are referring to having to drill deep to get to our blood.
Now excuse me but I smell beef cooking and hear people tryin to remember what comes after one so there must be a party going on.
Dug
Did you see Newt put the elite media in their place last night? That's what I call presidential.
