Whatever it is about Newt Gingrich, South Carolina seems to love him. Gene Robinson of the Washington Post last night on our show:
I mean, what is it about Newt? It's the anger. It's the fact he is in everybody's face and Republican voters here are looking for somebody to be in Barack Obama's face the way Newt Gingrich is.
And the way Mitt Romney struggles to be, you know, that little episode today, you know, going straight to North Korea. I mean, you don't go straight to North Korea when you're trying to argue economics with Occupy Wall Street. And so, it's part Mitt Romney. . . . You have to kind of look at all of this, $370,000, not a lot of money, Cayman Islands, gee, you know, who is this guy, and is he really going to have our interests at heart?
Our pal Steve Benen looks at the huge cheers Mr. Gingrich got in the debate last night and suggests:
Conservative voters hate the media, so Gingrich exploits that hatred. Conservative voters don't like feeling defensive about race and policy, so Gingrich tells them why they shouldn't. His debate performances are like dopamine for the right-wing soul.
It seems to be working. Mr. Gingrich now leads, narrowly, almost across the board. The vote's tomorrow.

well I wont leave but I will continue to bring them and their promises up and throw them back at them as long as I can draw a breath,
Newt? Mitt? Mitt? Newt? With a little Santorum thrown in to spice-up the mix?
Will someone kindly wake me when this circus is over?
No. We must endure this in our media coverage until November. Heh, even though I don't like Green Day very much, it makes me think of the Green Day song "Wake Me Up When September Ends." Only it should be "Wake Me Up When November Ends."
I think Newt Gingrik is unafraid to be the angry white man who articulates the hate and bigotry of white men and women. He is so apparently bigoted, the racist white folk in south Carolina love Gingkrik putting black people down. I do hope he continues to harass Romney and I would be thrilled if Newt were to win the nomination...
I have spent a great deal of time in Charleston, along the coast and inland. While there have been many transplants over the years (and of course some of them can just as easily be racist) in South Carolina especially along the coast. As I knocked on doors in all sort of neighborhoods, rode the buses, talked with the locals on buses, in hotels, on the streets, bars etc..encountered all sorts of racism. Have probably talked with at least 20 African American women who clean many wealthy white families homes I was astounded by the pathetic wages and no health care. If Chris is down there hope he goes to the bus stops like he suggested folks do in DC and interview some of the people going to work in the wee early hours. Governor Haley hates unions proud of keeping poor people poor
Charleston South Carolina
1. Continue to expose the institutionalized racism. Maids pay. No health care. No unions.
2. Who gets the wait persons jobs. Who is in the kitchens. Pay?
3. Is the confederate flag still flying over the South Carolina Capitol?
4. Ask Rep Wilson why Hilton Head is one of the richest communities in the country and Allendale (in his district is one of the poorest). Pay...(tharr be more) scale. Those who can and can not access capital.
5. How many white kids are in private schools.
6. Focus on Governors Haley hatred of unions. Talk with the longshoremen in Charleston.
7. Poverty in South Carolina. Why are people like Governor Haley almost proud of keeping poor people poor
8. History of African Americans being run out of those coastal communities
9. How these alleged religious people hide their racism behind their alleged religious beliefs
Gingrich has been playing the race card plain and simple. And there is plenty of racism alive and well in South Carolina.
And what is it with Mika Brezinski, Chris Matthews and other MSMers calling Gingrich's response to Kings question about his former wife's accusations..Gingrich "hit it out of the park" And the crowd stood up and applauded
This was like watching a man who had beat his wife blame her for the beating and the crowd applauded "hitting the ball out of the park" Really
Where else could a Republican Presidential Candidate flip his horrific and immoral actions onto his former wife and the media and get a standing ovation for his sociopathic behavior? Where else can Gingrich race bait when Juan Willaims called him out? Oh yeah South Carolina. Where there are no unions, eqiity in pay, health care. Where Governor Haley seems almost proud of keeping poor people poor
Newt says that the media discourages decent people from entering politics. As an indecent person, he has not been so discouraged. Actually it would seem that decent people would have nothing to fear from the media.
He has also said that it was the pressure of hard work and his patriotic dedication that caused him to err in the past. Since the presidency is considered to be a most high stress job, might being president force him to mess around even more?

Catholic Leaders Call On Gingrich And Santorum To ‘Stop Perpetuating Ugly Racial Stereotypes’ About Poverty

Rachel, you forgot one thing: Romney's core reason for running isn't to fix the economy, it's to defeat Obama! The Republicans don't care what happens to the economy afterwards, their ONLY goal is to make Obama a ONE-TERM-PRESIDENT!
And the race to the bottom continues . . . .
