Former Michigan Congressman Pete Hoekstra, a Republican, would like to replace Democratic Senator Debbie Stabenow. His new strategy gets this from our pal Eclectablog:
"Twitter Pete" Hoekstra, the man who wasn't even smart enough to buy his own domain during his run for Governor of Michigan, ran an ad during this year's Superbowl that was so blatantly racist and offensive to Asians that even GOP consultants are flinching.
Featuring a young Asian woman who thanks Stabenow for borrowing so much money from Asia and sending jobs overseas, Hoekstra's ad jams an incredible number of stereotypes into just 30 seconds -- from the bicycle to the rice paddies to the accent.
The ad is classic viral bait, in which the repellant doubles as the attraction. Hoekstra's ad sends viewers to the DebbieSpendItNow.com, screengrabbed above. The site credits the Prosper Group, whose client list includes Christine O'Donnell, Sharron Angle, the Wisconsin GOP and Scott Brown. You want the vanilla site? OK. You want the crazy? Just send the check. Hoekstra's spot is gross, certainly, but it's also sadly usual.

Pete didn't spend it for a convincing actress either.
"You buy me Honda?" (Old school Viet Nam vet joke. Never mind)
50cc or 70cc
.........and I will spend-it-not........my vote......on you sir!
Douche nozzle.
What a stupid commercial.
"I Pete, "Ignorant, bigoted, & selfish" Hoeksta, and I approve message"!!
Did they go to the same ad consulting firm that thought the racist pandas were a good idea a couple years ago?
UGH!!!!!
Is every single Republican really this shameless, tasteless, and blatantly racist? What sort of bizarre hate-fest television ad is this? Every single voter in Michigan should disqualify Hoekstra from any consideration for the position of US senator just on the basis of this offensive and juvenile ad alone. The GOP doesn't want to confront the issues facing America in an intelligent and reasonable fashion, they want to blow up heads with hateful rhetoric and far-right ideology. He needs to drop out immediately. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
No.
Please don't take the bait.
wow. just wow. That's ...damn, I'm speechless.
Until these types of ads start to REALLY backfire on these folks, you're going to continue to see them.
Politicians all talk about the high road, but then go here. Republicans are especially bad about using these types of ads and the Democrats (ugh) still haven't figured out how to counteract them.
How about Stabenow getting some Asian spokespeople to condemn this ad while she stands in the background?
You know, I think Hoekstra or his media team spent way too much time watching WW2 movies where the main villains were Asian. They've managed to put at least three stereotypes in that one ad, and those are only the ones I noticed. "Yellow Peril", my ass!
Did anyone notice that the girl (they- all- look- the -same -to -me-Hofestra) is obviously of Vietnamese descent and in a rice paddy?????. The US produces more rice than any Asian country. Nice move asswipe. Macaca moment anyone?
Something tells me that a Senator Hoekstra wouldn't bother to have Chinese food for dinner as a way of supporting the Asian-American communities of Michigan.
All the slant-eyed yeller folks are the same, didn't ya know? And they're ALL Money-grubbin' American baby-killers! Rawr!
...sigh... Why wasn't there any adult supervision when this was being made?
And then Hoekstra really gets his money's worth because multiple media sites offer links to his commercial or play it over and over during the news cycle.
Just sick
If you feature this on your show, PLEASE include the following bit of irony...
It was shot in California.
Yep. Mr. I Wanna Keep Jobs Local went ahead and outsourced. Did you even try to find a Michigan-based Uncle Tong to slur out some hateful pidgin English for your campaign? And there's quite a bit of local production talent around here that isn't getting quite so much work, now that Governor Toughnerd has scaled back the film incentives. Does your Spend-It-Not-ness also apply to those people here in your own state?
Oops. Double post, because it wasn't showing up. Apologies from this noob. (At least you can chalk it up to being unfamiliar with the system rather than being disingenuous about it.)
Meanwhile, Senator Stabenow posts her political views:

and your point is...
Some time ago there was an ad in which a chinese man was lecturing to an amphitheater of chinese about how America had sold its economic future to China. And he had a great evil laugh. And the audience laughed with him. No complaints about that ad being racist!
Why was that not racist? It had a chinaman who looked and sounded evil! Are you reacting to perceived racism so you can score political points, or to the cutting irony of the ad's text, delivered by a nice, smiling east-asian (since no one seems to know her ancestors's country of origin) woman, which has the same message as the previous ad?
By the way, how much money have you sent to China, buying your icrap?
I think he gotcha.
I wondered the same thing .It made me sick. That ad was made by Citizens Against Government Waste , brought to you by

I'm shocked , shocked I tell you I had no idea these companies were sooooo concerned.

Do you mean this ad? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTSQozWP-rM
Just because it didn't show up on this blog at the time, doesn't mean the people here who saw it didn't think the same thing then.
Thanks BeckyB1--that's the one!. And no, it's not racist. It's just got a whole lot of truth in it.
Now if we went back to the days of the Charlie Chan movies, with white guys playing chinese, THAT would be racist. (My authority on all this is Sir David Tang, passim.)
A lot of Republicans are going to run very nasty and negative ads. They have stepped over the line with Obama and now they are going to do the same thing with the other elections. Voters are so disgusted with Congress and these ads are not going to help public opinion. These ads may appeal to the hard right voters but they will turn off independent voters so long as Dems do not go too negative.
Democrats still need to attack them for the lies in these ads. Making debt doesn't send money to the creditor. And it isn't the reason for job loss.
Worked with him for five years in private industry when he was dead ended in his job - leading him to run on "Term Limits" for Congress. He overstayed his philosophy by about 18 years before losing a bid for Governor. The only reason he won the House seat was because his district is one of the most ignorant, conservative, Dutch Reformed bunch of yahoos you'd ever meet. He's no rocket scientist.
