As the Conservative Political Action Conference gets underway in Washington tomorrow, it's worth remembering that Mitt Romney ended his 2008 campaign exactly four years ago yesterday during his CPAC speech.
Looking back, the former governor had a rather provocative explanation as to why he felt the need to withdraw from the race for the Republican nomination.
"If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and frankly I'd be making it easier for Senator Clinton or Obama to win. And in this time of war, I simply cannot let my campaign be a part of aiding a surrender to terror."
In all seriousness, Romney suggested to the CPAC audience that he had to withdraw -- or the terrorists win.
For those who may have forgotten it, Jon Stewart had a compelling reaction to the remarks at the time.
Four years later, I wonder: does Romney think he was right? Barack Obama became president, and by most standards, has proven to be extremely aggressive in combating terrorism, compiling far more successes than his Republican predecessor. Does Romney stand by his belief that electing Obama president was part of "a surrender to terror"?
Or does Romney regret making the charge in 2008, and realize now he was wrong?

Romney's clearly running to be Israel's first Mormon Prime Minister since he will NEVER by President of the United States, no matter how much money he gets from Adelman et al.
OBAMA/DEMS 2012!
The question implies that Romney believed the charge when it was made. I am fairly sure that he knew he was wrong when he made it.
His hate and ignorance really showed in that speech. His hatred of gays, his hatred of liberals and his intolerance of any view other than his own. I can't wait to hear his concession speech this year. Newt's will be unforgettable as well.
Romney regrets nothing. He has no core.
"A salt and pepper, man-shaped polymer casing for a spiritual vacuum." That about sums him up.
"If Mitt Romney keeps running for president, the terrorists win," but only if HE wins.
Greetings! Rachel
Mitt Romney is a joke. The Republican party is a joke. Any one whom vote republican is a joke. Common sense says vote democrat and re-elect President Obama.
Peace be unto you!

When has Willard EVER realized - or admitted he was or is wrong
Romney was doing his usual pandering to the crowd. Republicans were selling that they were the party that protected America from terrorists and the crowds echoed that at their conventions.
Has anyone else noticed that pompous expression on his face after he makes a comment? He's either waiting for applause or just looks like he's a little spoiled kid who saying Nanananana told you so. Either way it creeps me out. PS Ask Bin Laden?
Republican politicians seem to have no regrets. They lie and distort, whatever they need in the moment, and then move on to lie again and contradict previous lies. No conscience, no rules, no regrets. That seems to be the modus operandi of the Republican party. Remember "not intended to be a factual statement?"
Is there a begger terrorism than what has happened to the country? What with
record unemployments rates, record foreclosures with no end in sight, record high
prices of basic commodities including gasoline. record trampling of constitutional rights,
record crony capitalsm like solyndra, beacon power, ener 1 and others to follow,
record budget deficits, record balooning national debt, record promises broken,
record fast and furious lies. record government intrusion into american living. Yes he deserves election to those blindly following him and continue to be captivated by
speeches. Wake up America.Ther is no greater terrorism than these things. We are also democrats, reasonable democrats who can see what is green and red.
