Nothing to do with these links, obviously, but I keep looking at the Drift tour dates thing on the right (no!) side of the page, and I find myself wondering...why aren't there book-tour t-shirts? Seriously. Why not?
Catholic Women should say, they believe the Pope. No contraception from here on out! And No sex for their husbands or boyfriends until they give back personal liberty to women! Your cut off! Its what you wanted with our twist to it! No more sex from Baby factories, were on strike! We now join the Virgin old men who are so against sex, that they want to control our bedroom! O.K. you win., No more Sex for any reason unless we decide to have a baby!
That would do it! That would put these old Virging bigots out on their ear!
I predict sales of water massage shower heads will rise dramatically.
By the way how is it we allow the right to call the British subjects who came here to escape religious persecution by the Catholic church, founders? The founders of the USA came along a hundred years later. They declared us free of British rule and gave us a constitution that guaranteed no church would have the power given to the Catholic church in Europe. The various bands of exiled religious groups who settled the new world broke apart several times over religious differences as leaders of each community invoked religious mandates others objected to. We are now a mixed bag of religious and non-religious people who enjoy the freedom from church rule.
No civilized democracy bows to the church anymore.Iran does though.
Seems to me that a case could be made that the use of birth control IS a moral decision, because world over population is a huge problem, and birth control is part of the best way to head off disaster.
The alternative would always involve a large increase in premature deaths, from starvation, disease, war, etc.
It's pretty well reported that Newt Gingrich is a well educated guy, so I get a little confused when he says things like...
The only thing that makes sense is that must think that conservative voters and undecided moderates are absolute addle-brained idiots. Of course, by that logic, Santorum must think they're 18th century quakers who think the vagina is the magic hidie hole where the devil waits to get us. Enjoy the election republicans, you get to choose between two candidates who think you eat glue.
I see that it took Chris "Let's Vote On Someone Else's Civil Rights" Christie about 14 seconds to veto a marriage equality act after it passed the New Jersey legislature. If Gov. Christie's heart and intellect was as big as his mouth and stomach, he'd be more likely to resemble an actual public servant rather than a reject from a Jersey Shore casting call.
You know this whole thing about birth control is getting ridiculous. People are going to have sex no matter what someone is going to do. It is just a part of life. How fast do you think a black market on contraceptives would be created, if birth control was gotten rid of? Since we existed, men and women have been getting it on and eventually developed forms of contraceptives. This whole thing is just another ridiculous distraction from getting anything done.
Totally agree. Thanks!
I think the thing with birth control is a gift that keeps on giving. I mean, come on. You know the GOP blatherers didn't poll test the idea. Who do they think are going to pile on that as their signature issue, go on a grand ranting crusade. Like, no one.
Watching these clowns cast about issues to ignite GOP voter outrage and motivation to turn out at the polls (except Romney, he wins with lower turnout) is hilarious... until you start thinking it is all just one big Keystone Cops setup for a "brokered" convention that was actually the master plan all along, to "annoint" an unvetted, unprimary-ed Jeb Bush as the next dynasty heir apparent.
The X-Files' Smoking Man couldn't pull off a better coup.
For there to be any outrage, the issue needs greater publicity. So far, it's under most people's radar.
Re: "since we have existed... men and women... developed contraceptives" you might find this little history interesting:

How much do voting people give up to adhere to the laughable religious standards of this latest bunch of GOP corporate shills. All you have to do is look at their lifestyles to know this bunch of conservative empty suits worship power (Santorum) and money (Romney and Newt), not Jesus. The Bible isn't a spiritual book any more, it's a campaign tool and a bludgeon. We have a fine Christian president, but they hate him. Why would a Christian hate another Christian? Maybe it's because he doesn't worship at the foot of their real god, money.
What needs to be 'taken back" is religion, not America. Get the Bible back out of politics and back into these tithe-hungry artificially-landscaped mega-churches with the fancy sound systems and paved parking lots. (I always wonder how many folks could have been fed with that money.) Then get the politicians back on the REAL issues, things like world hunger, wars, global debt, climate change, planetary stuff that affects far more people than my vagina and some guy marrying his boyfriend.
Tax the churches know.
This is probably out of left field, but I thought I'd pass it along to TRMS staff. Paul Babeu who is Joe Arpaio Jr. here in Arizona, it has been revealed that he has had a relationship with a gentleman who is an undocumented immigrant. Babeu who is currently the Pinal County Sheriff (it's the county between Maricopa County (where Phoenix is located) and Pima County (where Tucson is located)), is running for Congress. Babeu basically asked his former lover to sign a non-disclosure agreement about their relationship and threatened to have him deported if he didn't sign.

Thanks for the shout-out Will!
I've no doubt children will one day sing Great Songs about you too!
If a woman seeking an abortion in Virginia objects to their mandated transvaginal ultrasound, will they restrain her? Tie her hands? If she screams, will they sedate her? Slip her a roofie? Isn't forced penetration with a foreign object considered "rape"?
Are all these anti-women measures proliferating in the last few years happening at the behest of these few ultra-rich old white guys that have co-opted the Republican party? Where is all this coming from? I am angry and frightened.
I'm absolutely convinced that Newt Gingrich is as surprised as anyone that he's still in the race. He doesn't want to be president, and I'll give him enough credit that he's got to know that everyone hates him and he has absolutely no chance of winning. So why so through the motions?
He just wants to sell more books and videos. He thought if he could get into the race, get into a few debates and get some free publicity, he could sell more crap. He makes more money doing that then he could ever make as president. Why give up a sweet gig to fight for a job you know you'll never get?
Little did he know that there would be such a horrible crop of contenders this year that he would actually be taken seriously. It's like "The Mouse that Roared" -- a tiny country declares war on the U.S., expecting to lose, and then they can request foreign aid. But they end up winning.
So now we have the Newt that roared. But it's not nearly as funny.
