While watching tonight's video preview, take a listen to tonight's soundtrack. (Just be sure to let the ad below play out entirely before starting the song.)
Executive producer Bill Wolff shares a preview of tonight's show:

I think Rick Santorum may be the Beast.
Check this out. I did some research. He was the 666th person born in Winchester Virginia in 1958.
Romney's gotta use it.
To my progressive and moderate liberal friends: do not fret about Rick Santorum. He has a sliver of a chance of becoming the GOP nominee and no chance of defeating President Obama. Please accept this as fact so you will not feel any anxiety as we watch Santorum speak his anti-everything speak. The women's vote alone will defeat this throwback to the dark ages - Santorum - beyond the pale of understanding how he is the frontrunner. But as a progressive liberal, I am not worried about Santorum; in fact he would be the best thing to happen for the Democratic party if he were to be the nominee for President in 2012!! HAHAHA-Santorum - puh leez!
Be careful- many Democrats believed that about Ronald Reagan before he was elected.
Indeed. I feel this is important enough to repost an entry of mine from last week:
I'm seeing a lot of complacency here. Remember when we all laughed at Bush the Younger? And he got elected - twice?
Admittedly, in 2000, Al Gore, the "man-like object," had the personal appeal to the average voter of your least-favorite relative at Thanksgiving. And in 2004, John Kerry ran such a terrible campaign that he deserved to lose. Even though I wondered how he ever got elected to anything, I held my nose and voted for him anyway.
Some might say these elections weren't lost just by weak candidates, but by the SCOTUS "selecting" the candidate in 2000, and Repub voter suppression in Ohio in 2004. And I guess you'd have a point. But it'll be different this time, right? Sure.
The point is, be afraid. As many have pointed out, THEY WILL DO ANYTHING, SAY ANYTHING, TO WIN. Although I consider Obama a much better candidate than Gore or Kerry, he still faces the same fanatical opposition.
Complacency loses elections. You may predict or desire a landslide Obama victory in November, but David Axelrod is correct to warn that this will be a very difficult election, no matter who the Repub candidate is.
VOLUNTEER, DONATE, VOTE! And make sure your friends do, too.
Just a minor point, 43 was NEVER elected. Ohio votes were manipulated from the White House in 2004.

Bob McDonnell is just as nutty and dangerous as Rick Santorum. They are both a "clear and present danger" to our democracy. Incredible. The bible warns us against falling prey to false prophets, and it is obvious that McDonnell and Santorum are the anti-thesis of Jesus Christ in almost every regard. And today's Republicans really, really love both McDonnell and Santorum, which can only mean that they hate Jesus Christ and the God of Jesus Christ, no matter how much they claim to be followers of Jesus. I'm a liberal Christian. I'm a liberal follower of the liberal Jesus Christ. I will not sell my soul, therefore, to the Republican Party or any of the Republican presidential candidates or any of the Republican politicians like McDonnell and Santorum. Evil is as evil does, and what Republicans are trying to do to America is evil. I'm not fooled.
A Challenge to Santorum & Gingrich
What be your position on male sperm blocking surgeries ? Here come the contra-contradictions.
FBI agent should visit the person who suggested putting in his front car's bumper a sticker "Run Obama run". He should be fired from his job!
Henceforth I shall access this blog through the dogpeecantstopsantorum.com portal.
Oh no! How did I end up here? I typed in "dogpeecantstopsantorum.com" and was redirected here! I wanted to ask Rick how many votes that dog pee got him! And whether other dogs detected that scent and then proceeded to pee on him all over again! Let's see -- a dog on Romney's roof, a dog on Santorum's pants... dogs are beginning to figure prominently in the GOP primaries! I wonder what there is to this... the punchline is eluding me at the moment... a woof on the roof is worth a peekingese on the lap?
I remember balertwine. It seemed to always get wound up around the wagon wheels…. just saying.
"Dog on a Hot Car Roof"?
OK, so when did being a Christian become a prerequisite for being president? So Jews can't be president? Mormons? Muslims? Agnostics? Atheists? And what of the corruption of the very term "Christian?" Are we talking Christianity here, or just people who have gone through the whole born-again thing? This whole dash to the pews has a phony ring to it, first of all. And, somewhere along the line, these alleged Christians need to look up what Christianity professes to be. And the right-wing poseurs need to go back and check their history about exactly who put the God into our documents, money and pledge of allegience, and when and why it happened.
Ringo Starr for President. The Magic Christian. That should settle it.
Maddow Crew, You open with a pop quiz ? My dog eat my notes ! Not fair.
Thanks for having Bernie Sanders on your show tonight.
I voted tonight...it was amazing to me. Our neighborhood is the ONLY neighborhood that now votes at this one location. All the other neighbors that surround this location have been moved to another location. What a waste of tax payers money! ! !
It was so weird and ridiculous, I called my 82 year old friend out in the country. She voted for years at the same location for many, many years. A tiny near by school very near her home and then across the street at the new fire station. NOW she has to vote waaaaaaaaaaay far away at new location. She has to drive miles. This is crazy ! ! She now has a ballot mailed to her house for all voting issues.
What is this world coming to?
I can understand my 87 year old Mom to say this world is crazy. BUT, I am 60 and sound like my Mom ! ! !
You are as young as you feel. enjoy. My mom is 93 and gets smarter every day in my eyes.
The older you get, the more you realize that your parents were right!
Props for Voting - You made a difference! ;-) Now encourage your friends, family, coworkers, and neighbors - EVERY Vote Counts!
And ALL of you nuts here on MadowBlog, you'd better vote, too!
Maybe Bob McDonnell could have TSA Agents 'Vaginally Probing' women during their 'Electronic Strip Search' or Mandatory 'Feel-Up' at the airport, to make sure none of the 'Evil Women' are 'Smuggling Stowaways' (aka 'Babies') onto airplanes, without paying extra for their ticket!
And WHY wasn't Virginia Senator Janet Howell's 'Rectal Exam' Amendment, for men seeking Viagra prescriptions approved? Don't men deserve to have a total stranger shove something into Their 'Nether Regions', too? It could easily be argued that the 'Prostate Exam' and 'Cardiac Stress Test' for men seeking medication to treat Erectile Dysfunction are MORE 'Medically Justifiable' than the Trans-Vaginal Ultrasounds for women seeking to terminate pregnancies! "What's Good for the Goose is Good for the Gander" - Why not 'Goose' everybody? Besides, less Viagra (and Cialis) would probably reduce the need for birth control and reduce the number unintended pregnancies! [btw, Thank You, Senator Howell, your effort was appreciated!]
Be careful, Winston Smith and Julia, 'Big Brother' is watching, and wants to probe Julia's Nether-Regions! (Well, she was a member of the "Junior Anti-Sex League" - Hey, maybe Governor McDonnell could start that next, in Virginia...or the whole US!) Apparently Women, Gays, and 'Fornicators' are on the List to become 'Unpersons'! WHERE is our Emanuel Goldstein? [for those who don't get the references, read the book "Nineteen Eighty-Four", by George Orwell!]
I wonder if 'Governor Bob' will have Jews wearing Yellow Double Triangles (Stars) on their coats, Gays wearing Pink Triangles, and Lesbians wearing Black Triangles, before he's done? [See: "Nazi Concentration Camp Badges"]
And for all those who said "It won't really be That bad", you were wrong - and it could, and will, get WORSE, if we don't stop them now! "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing", or more accurately, "When bad men combine, the good must associate; else they will fall one by one, an unpitied sacrifice in a contemptible struggle" - Edmund Burke, in "Thoughts on the Cause of Present Discontents"
Darn dude. This will take half the night just number crunching
I would like to see more about the following topic.
One of the funny things is that racism is actually a mental illness, and conservatives are using religion to spread this illness.
Mentally ill bigots rely on home schooling to "protect" their children, who are so handicapped that they are unable to absorb information from teachers of a different race or religion.
The hilarious thing is that this is the foundation of the Republican party strategy.
The punch line is that different races do not actually exist.
Emerging research shows this situation is now beginning to be recognized as a diagnosable mental disability.
Is Political Conservatism a Mild Form of Insanity? - Psychology Today - William Todd Shultz, PhD
This same thing applies equally to LGBT - mental illness most likely corresponds with gender bias bigotry.
"....We in the United States, above all, must remember that lesson, for we were founded as a nation of openness to people of all beliefs. And so we must remain. Our very unity has been strengthened by our pluralism. We establish no religion in this country, we command no worship, we mandate no belief, nor will we ever. Church and state are, and must remain, separate. All are free to believe or not believe, all are free to practice a faith or not, and those who believe are free, and should be free, to speak of and act on their belief.
At the same time that our Constitution prohibits state establishment of religion, it protects the free exercise of all religions...."

The teathuglicans' nationwide movement to suppress the votes of minorities, elderly and students is traitorous. Yes they are traitors. Call them what they are.
Republicans love the super rich and war...and hate women.
Meghan McCain, how can any woman remain in this party of yours, that your daddy was once a leader of, the GOP (Gang Of Pretenders). I watched as you told Rachel that you were afraid of these insane zealots. That you were scared of the God Party. Tsk,tsk, Meghan, it's YOUR party. You are a party to this. You are an accessory before the fact.
Rachel Maddow is made of awesome. I adore her.
A fun question to ask Santorum (and other GOP candidates, but Rick First) at the Next Debate:
"Can a person who follows the teachings of Judaism, and remains faithful to those beliefs, get into Heaven?"
Considering that they ALL Claim to believe in and follow the 'Judeo-Christian Ethic', seeing Rick try to reconcile the fact that Jews do NOT 'Accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior' - and No, 'Messianic Jews' are NOT considered to be Jewish, they are considered to be Christians! How will Rick and the other Republicans answer, without alienating a HUGE block of voters?
* evil grin *
Lutz is the biggest jerk on the planet. It should be illegal to say what he said about the president "running", because he knows dam well he is giving the psycho hitmen in his base permission to go with their instincts. They already fed the hate in that base, by drilling it into everyone that Obama was the foodstamp president, and now the harvest is ripe for the next step. I remember when Obama and McCain sat next to each other in a debate, and McCain mentioned Kennedy, to which Obama snapped back "any time, any place". I bought my son a T-shirt with that phrase on it, and told him why. Fear doesn't dictate US.
