Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* In Ohio's Republican presidential primary, Rick Santorum appears to have the early edge in the polls, but Mitt Romney is currently outspending the former senator by a nearly seven-to-one margin.
* Tricia noted earlier that Santorum is starting to raise some decent amounts of money, and this statistic was especially startling: his $9 million haul in February is more than quadruple all of the money his campaign raised in 2011.
* Former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D) made it official yesterday, announcing he will run for his old seat in Nebraska this year. Just a month ago, Kerrey said he would pass on the race.
* The Democratic primary in Maine's U.S. Senate race may get a little crowded. Rep. Chellie Pingree is clearly interested, as are former Gov. John Baldacci and rep. Mike Michaud.
* Pushing back against far-right efforts, the DNC has a new video targeting Jewish and pro-Israel voters, making a positive case for President Obama.
* In Tennessee, a Super Tuesday state, two new polls show Santorum with double-digit leads over Romney.
* In Wisconsin's open U.S. Senate race, PPP shows Rep. Tammy Baldwin (D) with a narrow lead over former Gov. Tommy Thompson (R), 46% to 45%.
* In North Carolina, former state Treasurer Richard Moore, who sought the Democratic gubernatorial nomination four years ago, will not in this year's wide-open contest.
* And in Illinois, a Holocaust denier who organizes neo-Nazi events around Adolph Hitler's birthday, is running for Congress as a Republican. He will not enjoy support from party officials in the suburban Chicago district.

Ah, the memories:
"Andrew Breitbart, a Washington Times columnist who oversees Breitbart.com and BigHollywood.com, tapped into the anti-Kennedy vein in the hours after the senator’s death was announced, posting a series of Twitter messages in which he called Kennedy a “villain,” a “duplicitous bastard” and a “prick.” "

The national political dialogue has just improved.
What is a family-friendly, neo-Nazi event? Stalingrad bounce-house? Eva Braun face painting?
Keep in mind that in every city across the country, you get pockets of lunacy.
The community of Cicero, west of Chicago, used to be one of the most racist in the Chicago area.
Anyone really expect that this guy would try to run as a Democrat?
I'm 64. I am not black, but I'm more than familiar with the racism that was happening during the 60s and 70s. I won't say that the current time is worse than then, but it's certainly headed in that direction.
What! is the holocaust denier is too liberal for the GOP?
Newt is running ads in Ohio stating that he is the only one who can beat Obama.
Give me a break...he can't even beat Santorum.
Re: Blunt - why do Dem "moderates" always fall on their sword in the name of GOP unity?
There was just an interview on MSNBC in which a Republican talking head said that the base voters didn't want to be told who to vote for by the party's power brokers, who obviously support Romney.
If that's the case, why do they fall over and over again for the Romney "big money ad blitz?" If they're really so independent of the party regulars, they need to stick to their guns and vote for the candidate they really like, instead of moving like sheep to Romney whenever he and his PACs start running ads.
Every time, it's the same story. Santorum, or Gingrich, or whomever, has a lead in the polls. Then, Romney spends piles of bucks, and/or there's a vote somewhere else where Romney ekes out a win, and the base voters flock to Romney so he can eke out another win.
It's becoming harder and harder to believe that the Republican base includes people with functioning brains.
It could be that they liked Perry until they learned about his tolerance for "illegals". Then it was Cain until they learned he had skeletons in his closet. Then they liked Gingrich until they learned about his lobbying and ethics problems. Romney is the main reason most people found out the bad things about these candidates. The media did little to educate. They still didn't know Santorum, so he became the new messiah, until it turned out he thought he was the real messiah. So we won't give Romney credit for that one.
Santorum might take Tenn. thanks to liberty college. Wake up America, freedom is in trouble.
If Santorum wins, I'm expatriating. It would only be a matter of time before I'd get arrested under his regime.
Wake up America, freedom is in trouble.
Yeah Santorum and his ilk may do things like sending drones over American skies to spy on it's citizens or detain American citizens indefinitley :).
the bangor daily news is reporting that former governor angus king may also run for olympia snowe's seat, as an independent.
Democratic voters in Maine need to focus here. Don't split votes, allowing an extreme Republican to slip through. You'll only end up with a Senate version of the current governor.
