Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* In a bit of a surprise, Public Policy Polling shows Mitt Romney taking the lead in the state of Washington, leading Rick Santorum among Republicans, 37% to 32%.
* In Ohio's closely-watched GOP presidential primary, a new poll from Quinnipiac shows Santorum hanging on to a narrow lead. He's ahead of Romney in the polls, 35% to 31%.
* The Santorum campaign doesn't have much of a staff, but it made a key hire this week: it now has a delegate strategist.
* Markos Moulitsas' "Operation Hilarity" isn't over -- it's expanding to include Super Tuesday states.
* In Maine, Rep. Mike Michaud (D) has announced he isn't running for the U.S. Senate, which makes Rep. Chellie Pingree's (D) campaign that much more likely.
* Newt Gingrich hasn't had much in the way of good news lately, but he appears well positioned to win the primary in his former home state of Georgia.
* Speaking of Gingrich, though the former House Speaker has generally focused his fire on Romney, in advance of Super Tuesday, he's pushing anti-Santorum robocalls in Tennessee and Oklahoma.
* Wrapping up a long Capitol Hill career that began in 1976, Rep. Norm Dicks (D-Wash.) will retire at the end of the year.
* Literally just one day after kicking off his comeback campaign in Nebraska, former Sen. Bob Kerrey (D) is already the target of a Republican attack ad.
* And in Missouri, thanks to redistricting, Democratic Reps. Russ Carnahan and William Lacy Clay will be facing off against one another this year.

Why are you surprised Romney is ahead of Santorum in Washington? We don't allow people like Santorum to spew his hatred here (except for a few crazies)...we have BIG business here and a tolerance for differing points of view. AND we are the home of Dan Savage!!!
Besides, people like Santorum make one ask:
When will personhood begin for women?
yes...we ask that EVERY SINGLE DAY. I went out on Facebook the other day to look up the 19th Amendment group and was shocked at the groups out there that want to take the vote AWAY from women. I'm sheltered out here on the Left Coast, I guess.
All I can say is that if you want open elections where we the people are free to elect our representatives then you better get involved at the State level. The GOP knows that one sure state right is the states right to hold and therefore control elections.
State rights proponents are not opposed to a federal government, they just want to decide who will run it. They know that voters ignore mid-term elections and that gives them an edge.
Don't sweat it Team Romney. You have an excellent chance to win most of the 10 Super Tuesday states. Careful analysis of your Michigan performance shows the less time you can spend in any state only improve your chances… provided you avoid any mention of contraception, your three post-secondary degrees, your three homes, your taxes, the Cayman Islands, Swiss Bank accounts, the 99%, the 1%, the very poor, average struggling Americans, average moderate Americans, NASCAR, your many cars, your canine roof carrier, crazy rich guy bets, Romney Care, Massachusetts and any more odes to trees. Otherwise, you’re a lock. Just sit back and dream of inheriting “Obama’s Secret Service” including the agent featured in this funny YouTube video: http://tinyurl.com/6sevqsj
