In Virginia, Republicans backed off their vaginal probe ultrasound bill, and the protest just kept coming.
Today in Alabama, where Republicans have also backed off the vaginal part of their vaginal probe bill, protesters gathered. From the looks of the crowd in Montgomery, they're not backing down. More on the show tonight.

I'm starting to think 'GOP' stands for Grope Our Panties......
don't forget to make a video for Rush
G.O.P.= Grope Our Privity.
I would prefer not to.
--really sleazy eazy gratuitous literary theft
Another meaning (in VA) for GOP could be: Grope our P u s — — e s! I think that's exactly where it's at! Wouldn't you say?
Good Ole Perverts
I am thinking about the rape victim, or the incest victim forced to have to submit to this vaginal probe... I am horried for that woman , who has to submit to state sanction rape. It is not an easy decision to terminate a pregnancy and then the state wants to get in the middle of a decision to further traumatize. So will the state pay for this child after it is born...or abandon as the biological father surely has done.
Pamela,it may not even be a woman,it may be a fourteen year old child.
Agreed. There are also people like me, who was happily pregnant with my second child when I was told my fetus had multi dysplastic kidneys (both) and would never survive. My husband and I were given the choice to terminate the pregnancy or take it as far as it would go, possibly the full 9 months, only to have a stillborn child. This experience was traumatic enough because I was sent to an abortion clinic (protestors in front and all) but if I was forced to undergo the proposed ultrasound on top of it all, I would have lost it!
The problem is the pro-life camp don't all agree to these extremes....but for some reason groups fear they will lose favor with the minority viewpointers and be castoffs. You've had common sense pro-lifers being held hostage and their organizations taken over by the minority extremist. Kind of like what happened to the Republican Party.
I am very much against using abortion as a form of birth control and would hope that clinics counsel individuals who maybe involved in this practice. But I have not seen any data that suggests this practice exists. To have a fight against contraceptives at the same time you want to ban abortions seems to contradict the issues. And lastly, I have a right to my opinion, but I don't have a right to tell others how to best serve their health needs......
The argument that..."i don't want my tax dollars paying for this crap" is a fair concern. Consider this>>>> I'm a former policeman of a southern city...and a taxpayer...I was assigned to work a security detail to protect individuals marching in The Confederates Memorial Day Parade. With all large events, the city is tasked with providing a police presence. I was tasked to walk with the KKK. I don't advocate for this group, but I marched with them to protect their freedom of speech. The security was paid for with taxpayers money. My point is folks....stop talking about your tax dollars paying or contraception and abortion. We all "pee" into the same pot! I'm sure we all pay a few pennies into programs that we don't agree with......Peace
Yeah, if you don't like it, leave.
Yah, well Pamela, you said it in the first few words .... you think .... and that is the problem, they don't
"Go probe yourself" is such a great saying. I can hardly wait to use it!!
Me too!
It should be a t-shirt, with an alien, and maybe an upside-down GOP elephant.
State sanctioned rape is what these indecent human beings are forcing women to experience. Under the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, which the US is a signatory to, state sanctioned rape is a crime against humanity enforceable under accepted standards of international law. I suggest that petitions be forwarded to the United Nations Human Rights Commission requesting an investigation of all of these state sanctioned rape laws being enacted in the US. If the US Justice Department refuses to intervene, then lets call in the world to help since they already think all this crap going on in state houses across America is a sign of the decline and fall of the American Empire.
They better check for peep holes or hidden cameras in these Drs' offfices. I wouldn't put it past Governor Vaginal Probe from selling Vaginal Probe exam tapes to Rush Limbaugh.
So have any of you seen this? The Arizona state senate has approved a law that would allow doctors withhold information about prenatal problems if it could make the decision to have an abortion more likely.
http://www.rawstory.com/rs/2012/03/08/arizona-senate-approves-lying-to-women-to-prevent-abortions/
sigh
I don't understand are they against entitlements or for entitlements? Because if there are alot of children being born with serious health problems the parents may require extra help from the State to pay for the extra needs of these poor children. Suffer ye the little children.
They don't care about children, only fertilized eggs and fetuses.
What always scares me is the slippery slope. First it was the decision (we all hate terrorists) that the Pres. can order the military to detain ANY US CITIZEN, without arrest or trial (think Guantanamo) for any length of time for being a possible tie to a terrorist group. remember the detain any us citizen part and fill in the possibilities. The same is happening with women's health. If any part of women's health can be mandated by law, what is next? Why not let refuse treatment for STDs, HIV, any breast problem, etc. Both are very slippery slopes. Just sayin' NEW BEST COMMENT: I see your problem, you have a Republican up your vagina.
"Go Probe Yourself"
WIN
The Republican Party should change their name to American Taliban.
How's this for a nice soundtrack for the "go probe yourself" movement?
You dont have to be from Alabama to be considered a S.L.U.T. Stop Legislative Uterine Tampering.... NOW! Sign our petition at www.signon.org KILL SB 12! Scofield you have gone and flipped the b^tch switch now... so buckle up and enjoy the ride a$$hole!
Awesome!!!!!!!!..........
Hate to tell you.... but Virginia (or as I now refer to it... "The Glorious State of VAGINA" and good ole' TransVaginal Bob (our ever loving gubner) just passed the GD Vaginal Probe Law. Is it November yet so we can vote these a$$holes out of office?????
I thought it was the regular jelly on the belly ultrasound bill that V.P. Bob signed?
Yes, but that's not really any better. The whole idea of mandating an unnecessary ultrasound, as a requirement for obtaining an abortion, is simply offensive on the stated reason/excuse that it's about providing information. It rises to obscene on the unspoken but plainly obvious reason that it is intended to bully and humiliate women into not getting an abortion, no matter how necessary it might be. The change to the Virginia law was simply a tactical retreat intended to make the unconscionable seem reasonable in comparison to the original.
I am stuck in Texas, from Mississippi (sort of I'm a military brat, ex-wife and veteran) so I feel pretty much screwed since I feel hunted, being a Liberal, opinionated loquacious woman in These United States in 2012, is not easy. This is not the America I was promised. Yes, promises WERE made. Schools, the government all said we could be free to be free if we wanted to be, and they lied.
And Rachel, I must thank you, off topic. I find I use less curse words and colorful abbreviations on your page, that normally belie my intelligence and grace, when I am on your blog. For that I thank you.
Glad to see people in my state protesting for the right thing for once!
I've decided that I will no longer refer to them by the name they prefer (pro life) because they really are just pro-embryo. Beyond that stage most of them don't seem to care.
My apologies to those of you who are anti-abortion and DO walk your talk about being pro-life by supporting women, children, families in need socially, economically, politically, etc. Its just that so many of your "leaders" are so eager to cut funding for contraception, pre-natal care, affordable housing, a living wage, clean air & water, education, and generally most things a society needs throughout a person's lifetime. I respect life too much to sit idly by while our government seeks to force women to give birth against their better judgment. A society that does not trust its mothers, does not affirm the sanctity of life, IMHO.
I would love to see a bill proposing to ban access to Viagra/Cialis/Levitra except for married men who can prove that they are only interested in having sexual intercourse for the purpose of procreation. Further, they would have to put sufficient funds into escrow to ensure appropriate support for any child they may potentially sire. Lets see how this personal and financial invasion feels like to them. The whole process would require the approval of the man's wife, of course.
I'm with you on this one, and don't worry, as an abortion issue moderate, I think you stated that perfectly. This whole debate leaves no room for actually understanding what is going on. Terminating a pregnancy can mean SO MANY different things. I myself am uncomfortable with abortion as solution for forgetting to wear a condom, but then why would pro-lifers oppose contraception? But a third-term abortion and the morning after pill are NOT THE SAME THING! and I don't see why we need to think about them as the same morally. Also, amen to turning the debate back on male sexual health. Men have fewer consequences for their sexual actions. Leave it to a male dominated government to make decisions about women's health when they can make all the mistakes that they want.
Love your idea re the men.
Re pro-embryo: I refuse to use the term pro-life. What they are is anti-choice. We are pro-choice. If we use their terminology, we've lost half the battle.
These Tea Partiers really need to stop trying to do Gods' work for him.
Callista, I couldn't agree more. I like your idea better, but I was just commenting to my sweetheart that perhaps men should have an anal probe every time they go to get a prescription from the doctor for "Erectile Dysfunction" (ahh, hahahahahaha! ...sorry, that term always brings out the 7th-grader in me).
If what i have heard is true when the first woman forced to undergo a vaginal probe against her will files rape charges against the doctor performing it, the AMA will finally get involved and call the state legislators involved in as expert witnesses. That should give the Attorney General in that state cause for worry.
i want to know how many of you would sign a petitian to resend congressional health care? we most probably wouldnt ever get it through but we could bring up some facinating questions, like how much does that run us annually, why are we as Americans paying the overall insurance costs (with out a word of debate ) just automatically privide meds for cialice ( who is this alice any way ) and viagra. i dont remember any discussion about that , do you? i personaly would like to see the demographics in general , for this congress , when where and why do they use this health insc.? do all the families of these congressmen use it , i dont know ! we dont need to worry about privicy acts on this , just general info , what do you think of this ?
