The Arizona Senate approves a bill protecting doctors who don't disclose information that might lead a pregnant woman to choose abortion.
The Senate rejects the Keystone XL pipeline.
Mitt Romney's high cost per vote.
Registering to vote by smartphone.
Well that settles it: Sen. Inhofe invokes Genesis to refute climate change.
Meet the Congressman who wants to repeal health reform, Medicaid and the Child Health Insurance Program.
The Space Shuttle flies again.

Same old tale. The anti-abortion people are only interested in babies before birth. I suspect that if a woman gives birth to a severely disabled child these same legislators wouldn't be interested in helping with the enormous expense of caring for this sort of child. GOP=Party of YOYO (you're on your own)'
They're back at it in Kansas, too: http://www.addictinginfo.org/2012/03/08/kansas-bill-allows-doctors-to-lie-to-women-to-prevent-abortion-forces-women-to-pay-a-tax-to-get-one/
What is WITH these people?!?! FANSWATS!
If women are aware of this new bill they can demand their doctor tell them the truth and get a second opinion if they have any concerns. This may have to happen a few times before the Dr. either gets a bad reputation for not telling the truth or women in Arizona will only go to specific Doctors who tell the whole truth. This is another bill that the Republicans didn't think through. What else are they going to protect Doctors from will they someday be able to withold the fact that a patient has Cancer or Aids. Would that be okay if I had Aids and I didn't know it so I kept having unprotected sex. How many Doctors are practicing this anyway right now? What about the oath they took?
Well, well. I wonder if Inoffe and his fellow fundiies are REALLY up a battle of the Bible verses> We Godless liberals know our Bible, no doubt better than they do.
I know most of mine better than the pastors. The Republicans and their unthinkingfollowers not only don't follow the Bible, they ignore it. Jesus said, "Suffer the little children, let them follow me". Jesus was a healer, not a businessman who took what he wanted and let the chips fall where they may. He was not a man who condemned anyone to live in poor health or even dead. Remember the people afflicted with demons, the people who blindness and leparosy? How about raising Lazarus. Best of all, didn't he say, "you are your brother's keeper". Jesus was a man of wisdom and kindness, not give me your cash and I will take away your rights.
Amen Linda. The Jesus I learned about taught us to Love one another. Feed the sick and take care of the poor. I just want to ask these so called Christians: What would Jesus do? I know what he taught me in the bible. What so ever you do to the LEAST of my brothers, That you do unto me!!
What would Jesus do? If God wanted to end abortions he would have by now. The lack of faith on the part of Republicans shows in the way they are trying to play God. God knows what he is doing. The only thing God asks of us is to love him and trust him. Let him do his job. Our job is to love one another that means Women, African Americans, Gay people, Muslims, Iranians etc, etc.We may not agree with them but, the Lord asks us to love them they are his children. As for Murderers, he is strong enough to take them on himself.
Thought everyone here would appreciate this. Gov. Christie calls an Iraq War Veteran an idiot and has the Veteran taken out of the room by police escort for using his First amendment right to free speech. And this is a Presidential/Vice-Presidential Hopeful?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTK0FOkia88&feature=share
I don't remember hearing that the Veteran defamed a public minded citizen doing his/her public responsibility by speaking up. Like Sandra Fluke or even the people arrested at the Occupy camps or the protestors in Richmond. You notice it is the Republicans who are having these people arrested for invoking their Constitutional rights. On the other hand, Gov. Christie is a bully, so what can you expect. He acts like he is the Godfather. After all, God, would not be as rude to the people who elected him. Maybe the fine people of New Jersey will get smart and put a new governor in office. Next time, maybe one with some class? We, in Virginia, have a problem recalling our Governor, but time will put him out and more reasonable people are electable. Our governor, also Republican and also a Vice Presidential hopeful, will not be elected into that office in Virginia. We have too many women and in the voting booth, you don't have to vote like your husband told you too. It's private. Then, again, that might be part of the reason for all the garbage about restricting voters, because there might be voter fraud that is still unproven. Please note that Acorn was claimed to be doing all kinds of bad things, based on a doctored piece of so called documentary. Guess, what, never proven. Republican garbage.
Maybe these elected officials actually do not understand what Freedom of Speech means? They are younger, what Rights have they ever fought for? We shouldn't tolerate bullying in our schools why should we accept it from our Elected Officials? History does repeat itself we may not be up for the fight again but, God Bless our Young democrats and liberals who are the real Christian soldiers.
"My book says such-and-such, so it's true." What about these OTHER books that... "My book says other books are false. Therefore: my book PROVES my book! Why can't you follow that simple logic?"
LOL, Sen Inhofe is selling snake oil again.
No, he's selling lives. When there is no healthcare for the poor, the middle class will be picking up the pieces again at the expense of their own healhcare, financial needs and standard of living. That's what Obamacare is all about. I worked in the healthcare field for many, many years and I can tell you that this is what happened to the cost of living and while people are being treated in the ER others are waiting, possibly at peril. Snake oil is slick, but this is sick.
To Inoffe ... which mistranslation of the Bible are you using for reference? I just love it when you base an entire belief system on one or two verses, so ... If your mother in law wore a cotton wool blend today is everyone invited to the stoning? Have you had your ham salad sandwich today, because if you have I hope everyone is shunning you because you are unclean, yuck! Have you sacraficed any sheep or cattle lately to thank God for your good fortune? Done any work after sundown on Friday? Handled any snakes lately? Just wondering.
We're at the very beginnings of a push to get our local businesses to request that their advertising not play on the local Clear Channel station during the Rush Limbaugh program. If anyone has experience with this kind of grassroots campaign, or knows of similar efforts going on in other parts of the country, and is willing to help, please reply.
My story, my experience with contraception and PCOS, and how what Rush Limbaugh said affected me, was picked up yesterday by the national blog of the Reform Action Center of Reform Judaism, the political arm of the Union for Reform Judaism: http://blogs.rj.org/rac/2012/03/08/this-is-not-about-food/
Thank you.
Leah, Thank you for sharing your story and doing so in a heartfelt and mature way. Women's health and reproductive decisions should not be determined by lawmakers and employers that have zero knowledge of each individual woman's health history. Healthcare is between the doctors and the patients.
Please read her story - especially if you consider yourself on the Republican's side of this issue.
Has anyone considered the fact that the government, via the Republican Party is practicing medicine without a license? They are deciding what healthcare you need based on their desire to have all the money be under their control at the expense of you and your family. Not because of their Fundamental beliefs, which they can have (guaranteed in the Constitution after all) but because they don't want the government to be of the people or by the people. They want to control the people and any money they can get out of them, except the rich. They want the middle class to accept all the responsibilities and go play with their money and your money too. I also do not believe they are practicing their Christian beliefs. Jesus told us that we are our brothers keeper. I don't think he meant that the brother should have no rights. The brother should be helped when help is needed. I wonder if they realize that families within the Fundamental faith have more children than the average family and Mormons also have an aversion to birth control God did say, "go forth and multiply" but I don't think he meant to have so many children you can't feed them. That is what happens more often than not but I also wonder if they realize that overgrowth of the population leads to plague and pestilence, and, in general, the destruction fo civilization. I wonder how many days they had to skip school to know nothing about which they speak. The vast majority of them were born with a silver spoon in their mouths and have never touched on the common folk. They claim they know what we need based on a book that only comes out at swearing ins. They have never been close enough to know what the common folk need. But then, generally they buy their offices don't they. We cannot afford to, even if we had a desire to screw the people over and sell our prestige. Last, the children born to the poor will become an expense of the state again and the orphans of mothers who die in childbirth will become an expense and the people who die from lack of healthcare will become an expense as well. Will they be willing to raise the progeny of those who don't want or cannot raise the children the Republicans are refusing to have averted? In the end, Republicans are misguided and need us to boot them so cooler, more intelligent heads can work.
People who are against birth control for religious reasons should read the life of Father Nelson Baker. He's famous here in Buffalo and there is a movement to move the Catholic Church to raise him to sainthood. He started orphanages and home for unwed mothers of which my best friend was a resident in 1968. What event moved him to turn down a cushy job with the local bishop and do this? Father Baker was appalled to find out about the countless infant bones of unwanted babies that were thrown into the Erie Canal each year. It's right in his biography here: http://www.ourladyofvictory.org/FatherBaker/legacy.htm
How can it be wrong to prevent this? I can't believe that here in 2012 we are still fighting to prevent pregnancy. The religious right just don't think logically and cause our evolvement toward a better civilization many steps backward.
Did Inhofe ever vote on clean air laws or is he claiming GOD wants smog? What is the point of keeping your body a temple if the planet is turned into a toilet.
I want to know where he is going to hide when the Earth explodes due to our lack of stewardship and just plain trashiness. You know he will plead like the weatherman that he knew all along this was happening. I can't wait until the stink comes down wind of the Capitol.
That AZ bill is insulting. It treats the parents, especially the woman, like 2 year olds who are unable to make mature choices. Doctors and lawmakers are not the patient's parents. The patient hires the doctor and pays for his services. Women have a right to know everything about their medical condition and the right to make their own choices about their medical care. It is insulting to assume that just because a woman finds out that their child is disabled that they would choose an abortion. Treat women like the intelligent human beings that we are!
My sister had a "surprise" Down's Syndrome child at age 30 with no prior family histories. If she had known ahead of time, she would have still had her, but she would have been much more prepared. Not just for a higher risk of complications during childbirth, but for the shock at childbirth, researching early intervention programs, finding an appropriate pediatrician, preparing her other 2 children, finding daycare that will take special needs babies, nursing issues, arranging for a longer maternity leave, and the list goes on.
As I watched Rachel's show last night concerning how Dems are finally using 'wedge' issues to their advantage (previously a tactic mastered by Republicans) I thought of a way we could do this similar to the way Republicans added anti-Gay state initiatives during the 2004 election. Here is an idea that anyone truly in favor of personal freedom should not oppose. We should push for the following Constitutional Amendment in States where Women's health issues are under attack:
"The State shall make no laws or regulations mandating medical tests or procedures that are not directly related to communicable diseases and the public health."
I'm starting to lose count on how many civil wars the Republicans are trying to start. They have already gone after Gramma now they may be after our pets.
I hope some of this is covered on the show today rather than the typical tabloid election salad that's usually tossed there.
It has gotten very schill-like on this channel lately. I've been switching to ESPN alot more. I HATE watching sports on TV.
The anti-abortion supporters on local blogs are filled with contradictions. They propose to outlaw abortions however, there is continued criticism of federal spending relating to education, health and welfare services, opposition to same-sex adoptions not to mention the support for "family values" as the solution to almost all issues. It seems the focus is only to ensure the child is born, then the parent(s) forced to make the "right" decision as well as the child are on their own.
If you are a woman living in Arizona, who has an eptopic pregnancy, you have a small window of time to receive treatment or you will die. To get to another state, you have an even smaller window of time to get help. Women will die. The fetus cannot survive . To let this happen, even though you know you can save her is a form of murder. If you believe in God, then not saving the mother, means you are not using the gifts you have been given to save a life. Shame on you. Good luck explaining that to your maker.
Higher Social Class Predicts Increased Unethical Behavior
So....if my doctor knows that my unborn child is going to be born with severe birth defects rendering that child a burden for life and he doesn't tell me because I would probably choose to spare my child and myself the suffering....the STATE will protect that doctor?? Lovely...and will the STATE also bear the cost of my child's care??? If that happened to me that would be the LAST time I saw that doctor and I would make sure every woman in my town knew what he had done. What is WRONG with these people?????
