While watching tonight's video preview, take a listen to tonight's soundtrack. (Just be sure to allow the ad below to play out entirely before starting the song)
Executive producer Bill Wolff shares a preview of tonight's show:

Now, that is a good song. Never have adequately figured out how they did the "Squeek-Squwak" bit tho.
Yay, Pi day, Hot Chocolate and Barbara Boxer! Awesome. I will be interested in Ezra Klein hosting. I like him. Miss Rachel, but still… Ezra should have some good stuff. Do we have to hear about Republican primary? Great, that would be no, the topics above are excellent topics not about the Republican quest for a nominee.
once again, it would be nice if the maddowblog would say in the "ahead on..." post when rachel is not going to be on, but a guest will be hosting.
I have requested that before. And before. Etc. Does NOT work. They think we will not watch.
Kudos BTW to Chris Hayes for saying he will not be on his "UP" show this weekend and Ezra Klein will be subbing.
What can I say? people IN media are skeered 2 death in this area.
Shoulda, coulda, woulda I guess. I, too, wish that Maddowblog would tell us when someone else was guest hosting. Hell I like Melissa Harris-Perry and I like Chris Hayes (both of whom regularly host) so I would still and will still tune in. I like Ezra Klein as a host too. I also liked Anna-Marie Cox (where did she go BTW???).
Cox is still around, just not appearing on TRMS for whatever reason. Presently, she has a gig seriously prodding buttock with The Guardian (that's a Discworld reference, btw, in case it sounded nasty).
It didn't 'sound nasty,' but I do thank you for the info regardless
I wasn't so much worried about you. ;)
hmm Pi day, Pi R round. Do not sine any legal documents until reading the fine print. Make sure you have enough to pay the loan if you cosine. The President and his cabinet should agree on all tangents. Make my pi marionberry
I know you are always sorry you can't get Republicans onto your show, I am very grateful. It really bothers me when they spew forth lies about Obama and no-one corrects them. Why is it the media keeps propagating the lies, like the President can actually lower the gas prices, when he can't. I don't mean my MSNBC evening group when I say media, don't mean them all.
When Obama was campaigning he said he could lower gas prices. Was he lying?
He said he wanted to do other energy investment "so we are not talking about" high prices of gas.

Yeah, I am really saddened to think people (Republicans) would willfully try to curtail jobs and economic recovery so they can blame the President for economic problems, which he wants to help and fairly help, not just liberals buy gas.
I do see signs of recovery if they would stop trying to speculate about oil and Iran. We have increased our supply and production, so why do some feel Obama has caused prices to rise?

No, you are.
Hey meddlingmonk,

What's that you say? Obama's a liar? Oh yeah, I guess this makes him a liar. That or he's just a moron. Here's change you can believe in!
I'm still wondering why there is such sporadic coverage of Republicans falsely blaming President Obama for rising energy costs, the main inflationary force in the U.S. economy today, driving up expenses across the board, besides just at the gas pump.
Let's look at the facts.
In the year 2000 gasoline hovered around or just below $1.00 a gallon (as it had during much of the 1990s)...then the Commodities Futures Modernization Act of 2000 was enacted (passed by Republicans controlling Capitol Hill, signed into law by President Clinton), a "bi-partisan" Act ensuring deregulation of financial products, ensuring "no limits" on oil futures trading, ensuring that the Commodities Futures Trading Commission (with commissioner Wendy Gramm on it at the same time she sat on Enron's board of directors) no longer had to restrict oil futures speculators. Result? Oil barrel and gasoline prices started rising over the following 8 years when GW Bush was in office, with energy prices only plummeting in late 2008 from record highs as the Wall Street collapse literally "placed limits" on the oil futures speculators, leading to energy prices almost dropping to pre-2000 levels, lasting for a short time until bail-outs saved both Wall Street firms and the oil futures speculators.
The Dodd-Frank legislation of 2010 (signed into law by President Obama) seeks to reinstate limits on both run-amok Wall Street firms and oil futures speculators. Under Dodd-Frank, the CFTC has been ordered to place limits on oil futures speculation, but Republicans are blocking, no doubt afraid that if pre-2000 limits are placed on oil futures speculation AND oil barrel and gasoline prices subsequently plummet like in 2008, then they'll no longer have rising energy prices with which to falsely slam President Obama during an election year...even though it is Republicans and oil futures speculators like the Koch brothers who are causing energy prices to skyrocket once again.
Simple experiment. Have the CFTC reinstate strict limits right now on oil futures trading and let's see what happens. I bet world oil barrel and domestic gasoline prices will go down, significantly, just what the Republicans don't want to happen this year.
The Republicans may wish to tar Obama with high gas prices, but there is polling data to suggest they are failing. For example, this Bloomberg poll in which only 22% of respondents blame Obama for gas prices. And there's this National Journal poll which pegs it at 14% blaming Obama.
All that can change, depending on how things develop, but so far the Republicans are not getting far on this issue. Maybe they should start blaming high gas prices on women using contraception. That's a sure-fire winner if ever there was one.
Hope your happy monk you just gave republicans another talking point.
If only. But they're damaging themselves plenty without my help.
Including the 3.14 beginning, it takes 33 digits before there a zero appears in the value of pi. I read that pi has been identified up to 10 trillion digits. Nerd warning.
Correction. 32 digits , THEN a zero.
I got it! Here it is the million digits of PI!
3.141592?? That would be approximately 3/14 at3:52 AM?
PM rather!!
Make mine a peach pie, and allow me to eat the whole thing while listening to this. Thank you.
And, so as not to confine nerdy comments to the mathematical realm, why do almost all the pundits on tv incorectly use "the media is" instead of the media are.
But, good job by Ezra.
Pi is also 22/7 ... so in countries that use the date format DD/MM/YYYY July 22nd is also Pi Day. Which IMHO is nicer than the non-terminating decimal of 3.14 etc.
I liked the way Ezra ended tonight's show.
"I am Ezra Klein, the one and only. Rachel Maddow will return tomorrow."
You've put the period in the wrong place. He said, "I'm Ezra Klein. The one and only Rachel Maddow will return tomorrow."
