It's election day in Wisconsin, Maryland and Washington, D.C.

Mitt is still weak enough that a concentrated uprising from the conservative wing of the GOP could hamr his chances against Obama. The Romney camp touts the number of delegates Mitt has racked up, but that's meaningless long-term. As long as Santorum is getting considerable votes and has the backing of the right-wing, Romney is still going to lose among conservatives. This thing will kill the GOP. Romney has the nomination locked up, but how much damage has been done? http://www.sunstateactivist.org
Social Darwinism indeed...FANSWATS on every member of the GOP for accusing the Democrats of EVERYTHING they do!
At the heart of it, the right believes that social programs cause poverty, and that if we just cut all those people off they will go get jobs, become productive citizens, and not cost society any more money. This is a pipe dream; there are not enough of the kinds of jobs out there; minimum-wage jobs (and lower, if you let them have their way) will not lift people out of poverty. The kind of jobs needed also would require skills these folks often don't have, and the right isn't interested in helping them get the skills they need.
I heard Jimmy Carter on NPR months ago, saying that one of the failings of the Reagan administration was that they dismantled LBJ's War of Poverty, programs that were making progress at helping eliminate poverty in very positive ways, helping people with job training and not just cash assistance. A lot of the problems we have today can be laid at Reagan's door...
I hope in the actual speech that is corrected to "Whoever they may be".
Reagan was no "visionary"- he was a well trained actor who could deliver a line. He was also a shill, first for Borax, and later for big business. He had little talent, and less ethics than Bonzo the chimp. His famous line "Bring down your Wall!" was a pale imitation of Charlton Heston playing Moses in a local theater production. Reagan and "Bush the lesser" were two of America's worst presidents- problem is, this is not an era that allows us to move on like the 1800's were and the repercussions of the damage they have done will possibly bring this country down in our lifetime.
Yes, down here in Florida, we'll throw your butt in jail if you kill the wrong lobster. Now if you kill an African-American teenager, well . . . we'll investigate and get back to you.
This state needs a high colonic.
Perhaps coverage of Rick Santorum should start with re-reading Frankfurt's On Bull@!$%#. He fits the definition perfectly: he simply doesn't care whether what he says is true or not. Apparently, this is all OK in American politics now.
The guy with the 'The End is Near' sign is behind the times.
"Anti-Liberal Scheme" I said this before and I'll say it again...if you need to create a scheme to make a point, then maybe you really don't have a point at all?
Why is the so called young conservative so eager to proof themselves to be right that they are compelled to do such? Is that what happen when you stop accepting simple fact as part of reality? Is this what we are teaching our youth now: "If something doesn't agree with you, bend the truth till it goes where you want it to go...if it still doesn't agree with you, you have the right to bear arms!"?
Nice summary by Robert Shapiro of what's at stake in the Supreme Court's decision on the Affordable Care Act:

By the way, here's a good analysis of why Germany is doing better than the US on controlling drug costs, even though the ACA is supposed to include requirements for evidence-based medicine.

The take-away:
Rachel, your reports on what a liar Romney is and how Santorum just goes along making things up, have been stellar reports that anyone watching could learn from. Unfortunately because the FCC has made it ok for servers to limit what news they allow their costumers to have without paying extra the people who need to know don't get to know. Up here in the "Red Zone From Hell" most people don't get to see MSNBC without paying extra, but all subscribers are given FOX with any package they buy. We will not get to a "common knowledge status" until everyone gets to hear or read ALL of the facts.
Rachel, running behind in my commentary upon things, as usual, hoping to find something worth commenting on, that might make a difference...alas....
I like your
Well, that was interesting...in mid-sentence...as I was saying, I like your Book Idea, of explaining how we "Drifted" into becoming dependent upon a "War Machine," when all we ever wanted to do was provide jobs for everyone. Now we find ourselves in quite a quandary. How do we give up war, as an occupation, without tearing the economy apart? The Media, I feel, is cowering under unspoken threats from the NRA, et al, to not say anything about where all the money comes from for war materials, or how much of the earth's petrol is used up in running the military....worldwide!
We all know it's Bayer, and BASF behind most of the chemicals killing, or disabling the Bees...God only knows what Monsanto has in mind for the food supply for the populations of the world. Then, there's the Water! Theres your next war.
What are we doing to the micro-life of the planet? You, young lady, are someone I admire, and are in a fine position to bring to the table, some commentary about these things. MSNBC will have to let you do it, because it's important, and you're the go-to-girl! I realize you've your "marching orders" but it's way later than everyone thinks it is!
The political discussions and arguments are
the smoke-screen offered up by the Media, most of us know this, and are becoming weary of being CNN'd to sleep, or worse. It's not funny! I apologize for being "off subject" again, but I'm given little choice. No more Kings, No more Pharoah's, no more wealthy men of war...
By the way, I thought the promo for the book on Dave, and Jon, and Terry's NPR show were great. Doing it over the days of the Jupiter-Pluto trine, was a very nice touch....Stay Real, or we all suffer...ball is in you're court....Hit it!
I thought the whole deal with the Republicans was to keep government our of our lives, let us make our own decisions, since 2010 I have never seen so many bills and laws being made that invade my body, my privacy, takes all my own power away, they are more socialist than they are trying to paint the President to be, I am sick over all these things happening, the healthcare, the strip search, the voting rights being lost, redistricting for their advantage, one right after another, and now th Ryan Budget, those people need live on 25,000 or less for a year and see how it really feels to be poor, working poor. My husband hasn't had a raise in 4 years, while costs are going up and up, I am disabled and scared that I will no longer be able to afford my secondary insurance because that is going up 11% every six months, how can that be okay with anyone? I don't get what they are after, why are they so angry at the President, why are they preaching fear and why are we going backwards while the rest of the world is going forward without us. We need to educate our children, most important, but the more education we get the least likely we are to fall for the RNC tactics of fear, It is all crazy and perhaps another reovlution is needed to make our point, I am too old and sick to do it, but I would do what I could, I did good in the '60's at it and it brought alot of change. Someone told me the other day though, that those of us that were fighting for the same freedoms then, are the ones screwing it up now, do you think that is right? I hope not.
