It's absolutely pointless to be protesting Paul Ryan's budget plan. It's never gonna get passed the Democratic Senate anyway. They're be better off criticizing Obama for not passing a budget since he took office.
It's still a "free" country, Cindy.
I protested attacking Iraq, knowing Bush/Cheney were doing it. It wasn't pointless, it is what sets America apart from countries that have no freedom of assembly for a redress of grievances, and such. The thing some on the right that hate free assembly in the form of protests don't get-It's the American Way. But if you agree with them, only then it's OK.
Also, the Congress passes budgets, not Obama.
Facts: 1
"Cindy": 0
(In the PolitiFact world, that's probably a tie.)
Here's some additional facts, Monk.
President Obama's last budget did not get a single vote in the Democrat controlled Senate...note I did not say, "did not get a single Republican vote" but President Obama's budget did not get a single vote, no Republican, no Democrat, no Independent.
Additionally, regarding the free speech protestors. If they are attempting to imply that the Government (via Ryan's budget) is not taking care of the poor and that that is "unChristian," Jesus never instructed the government to take care of the poor. He did, however, instruct individuals and his followers to do so.
Cindy
Get some information. The President does not pass anything. The U.S. House passes all spending bills, including the budget. And for your little mind, there have been budgets passed for every year except this yr. The President presented his proposed budget. That's all he can or is required to do. Now it is up to the U.S. House to pass a budget NOT the President.
And Ryans budget didn't pass either. Obama's got no Democratic votes because they felt it cut too much. And they right wing keeps preaching about how christian they are. But if left up to the mind set of you and the rest of the right, it would be every person for themselves.
Robdon, the only reason you want Government out of the picture is so you and your Fascist ideas can take over this country. Nice Try. If it weren't for government we would have a bunch of extremist running the country. And right now we're trying to shut them down.
Republicans and Paul Ryan are at least trying to pass some kind of budget while Democrats in the House and Senate keeps killing it. If they hate it so much, why don't they pass their own. Who do you think is more at fault here? ....Now don't tell me it's still the Republicans or I'm going to call you a liar.
Never mind, I am trying to talk to someone that will not listen. I need to accept that so I can stop hitting my head against a wall.
Cutting budgets means cutting jobs, so catch 22. That is all, over and out.
It is amazing how misinformed people are on this blog. I'm not talking opinions, I'm talking facts.
1. "there have been budgets passed for every year except this yr." Setting the grammatical errors aside, the federal government did not have a budget passed by both chambers in fy2010, 2011, or 2012.
2. "That's all he can...do" No, he is the leader of the Democrat party. There are lots of things he can do. Granted, in the end, the budget has to pass both chambers of Congress but President Obama's budget did not get a single vote in either house.
3. "Now it is up to the U.S. House to pass a budget..." The House HAS passed budgets, it is the Senate (controlled and led by the Democrats) that has not passed a budget in over 1000 days!
Where did I say or even imply that I want the "Government out of the picture?" In additional to being misinformed, you may be delusional. Funny how people attack me instead of the facts and substance of my comments.
Discussing budgets is futile. There's more at stake here. Budgets are just not as important as you Republicans have made them out to be. Here save us the trouble- give the rich all the tax breaks and destroy the rest of us. There was that so hard that is the Republican Budget. Budget Smudget let's just Fudge it!
Budgets set priorities, give directions, provide a benchmark, and many other important things, dismiss it at your own peril.
Cindy - Please go back and look at "How a bill becomes a law." The President does not pass a budget. He signs the budget bill, after its passage by Congress. So the question is, why has Congress (both Houses) failed to to pass a budget.
Tiger, please go back and look at how a proposal becomes a budget. The president presents a budget proposal to Congress...the last one President Obama submitted that was voted on by the Senate did not receive a single vote, from Republicans or a Democrat. Maybe it is you that is ill-informed.
And NONE of the right winger budgets have passes either. Tiger is correct, the President presents a proposed budget. From that time on it's up to the U.S. House. If they don't like Obama's, why have they not passed one themselves? They know Ryans will never pass, why waste the time and money on something they know will never pass?
Larry, the budget is not what's important and the President knows this it wouldn't have gotten passed anyway. He expects amendments not obstruction. He expects compromise not grid-lock.This country cannot afford either.
The House has passed a budget, the Senate has not. The last one presented went down 97-0. At least get the facts straight even if you want to put your own spin on what they mean.
Clever spin on the hymn, but I'm never going to get it out of my head now. :/
Has anybody else noticed any censorship going on right now?
**** ** ********* I ****** *** * ***** like *** **** *ike****.
And you changed your picture that's just wrong! You're like freaking me out!!!
Yeah, I liked the "old" monk picture. Unless of course you like this one better. There was something special about that picture, you know.
Pretty powerful banner, considering today is Good Friday, and Paul Ryan is a Catholic.
Anybody?
What specifically are you referring to?
Nevermind Meddling Monk snapped me out of it, They are making me crazy, I tell ya.
Somebody is pitting everyone, against everyone. Whites against anyone who isn't white. Men against woman. heterosexuals against homosexuals, religions against religions, rich against poor. muslims against jewish people. Jewish people against muslims. christians agaist catholics. It is becoming very apparant that someone is behind all this dissension. I am praying that it isn't the Taliban who are trying to defeat us from the inside out. Who stands to benefit if we are all at war with each other? I don't care if TV shows are cancelled we need to find out who is behind all this? I don't know who can be trusted at this point?
By Taliban, I assume you mean "Republican."
I think you're on to something...
It's the "Tealiban" and it consists of the religious right, Karl Rove and his horrible tactics, all the Koch-funded front groups for corporate take-over of even things such as protesting... it's just disgusting and I'm feeling pretty defeated right now as a liberal, but I'm also a liberal who would cheer moderate policies (cap and trade? yes! Obama's Insurance-based healthcare overahaul? yes! etc...). I just want anything ANYTHING other than right wing insanity to be in the news. I just can't handle this rightward drift anymore...
Listen to the Republican rhetoric - I hate you, so you hate me. This has been their message for years. That is what is frightening. They are trying not only to defeat our country through disenfranchizing the opposition - but as well by pitting us against each other. When we have fought it out, they can have what is left of the United States of America - in terms of the slaves and the wealthy.
If you look at what ALEC has been backing in the states and the federal government, you have the picture of some very ugly intent. It's just too bad that we allow them to determine who we will hate this week. Yup, it won't work unless we allow them to push us over the lines.
It seems to me to be greed and hunger for power. Just look at Wisconsin!
Look, it is a painful growing period in our history. We have more information than ever. Fox 'news' is in play, and there are a lot of people watching it and believing it. However, people are gathering and rising up and changing the world, too (Arab spring, occupy movements).
Old white men (forgive me but it is true) have been in power for far too long and they are spoiled. Their attitudes are bad. They want their power back. They seem to want to reverse the clock on women's rights, and we are not going to let them (I hope.) They also seem to want to take like-minded young white men under their wings and teach them how it is done.
There is obviously still racism of every flavor. Very bad things happen. But I think we are moving in the right direction, and will continue to as long as we are able to vote, share ideas and protest.
There is definately a tug of war going on. I'm all about peace, love and understanding. It is just making me a little nervous. I'm serious, I just can't seem to wrap my head around this. Because the similarites in the treatment of women in Iran or Iraq is beginning to sound like here. I can only rely on what I've read about the treatment of women in these other countries, I don't know if this is true. An Iranian that I dated told me this, that women in Iran have to throw themselves into a fire if their husband has died. I know that all the men I know and all the men that I have ever met for the last 52 years of my life. would never even consider treating a woman the way that we are being treated. Who are these men who are doing this to women? Who is donating to their cause? Do they even know who is donating to their cause because it appears that it is a super pac where the names are not disclosed. My question is this can Foreigners contribute to these Super-pacs? Can the Taliban not the Tealiban contribute to these Super Pacs?
You have well-honed instincts and wisdom. I share your apprehension. The enemy - yes, that's the correct term - is a master of disguise, deceit, trickery, and it's literally all around us now. No, I can't prove it. Instinct. Never second guess it. When we finally know the answer to "who", it will probably be too late. Assuming, of course, that it's not already. Soon, now.
Madlionism-I share your exhaustion over everything going on now. However, I saw this quote from Desmond Tutu and I am clinging to it with both hands: "Do your little bit of good where you are; it is those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world."
I am going to work in my little part of the world.
Thank you. I don't know if it's paranoia. Maybe, that happens sometimes. I am just so sorry that everybody is fighting, I want so much to be able to walk alongside Lions, I want to hug your child as well as my own. I want to laugh and find out about you. Who you are, your likes and dislikes. Your favorite sport. I also want to feel secure.I know there's evil in this world, The evil of hate, the evil of drugs, But, prisons aren't rehabilitating anyone. Where are our experts on these things and why haven't we gotten to the bottom of addictions yet? And if someone has why aren't they sharing this very important bit of information to everyone. We need to start helping and stop imprisoning drug offenders.
What Jesus commanded was "Love God above all and Love thy neighbor AS THY SELF.
If this means heal the sick, feed the hungry, as he did or care for the poor we could discuss it.
Jesus did not advocate war, in fact he had a parable about his people's enemy, it was called "The GOOD Sameritan"
Besides, Jesus could not tell the government what to do, after all they were the Romans, and no one told them what to do without risk.
If we are a "Christian" country we should do as Jesus the Christ commanded: Love.
Paul Ryan a Catholic? interesting. Did he miss 85% or more of the religious instructions? Like the part about "Love? Most of what Christ spoke of was LOVE. In fact "God so Loved the world he gave his only son" It was repeated so often in catechism, how could any Catholic forget? I didn't think the church changed that much.
Oh, right, and Ryan is an Irish name. I remember history lessons on how badly the Irish were treated when they first immigrated here. Weren't they some of the original union folks?
Interesting. How many forgot their roots too?
How about history? John F. Kennedy was our first Irish Catholic President. His is a tradition we should read about and maybe bring back.
Nah. He was just too drunk on the $375.00 a bottle Frenchy wine.
I want to let Rick Santorum know he has my prayers for his precious little girl who is in the hospital.
Too bad, dad uses her like a prop.
"HI. I'm Paul Ryan. I'm not an economist, but I play one on TV."
These are great people holding this sign. I mean, they care so much for the poor (!)
They are firm believers in having their tax money.......oops, I'm sorry - I meant to say OTHER people's tax money take care of the poor.
The Democrats in Washington, D.C. care for the poor as well. They are forever voting against school choice in that city - and are forever forcing the poor to go to those wretched public schools in that sorry place.
After all, it's the best 12-year 8th grade equivalent education that tax money can buy.
Meanwhile, EVERY SINGLE Democratic member of Congress sends their children elsewhere. NONE of them has their children in a Washington, D.C. public school.
Pathetic. What a joke.
These fine people holding the 'crucified the poor' sign need to be holding it in front of the Washington, D.C. Board of Education building....
Now, how is it that you know the people holding the signs do not pay taxes? You are entitled to say I do not want MY money paying for poor people. These folks are taxpayers. I am a taxpayer and MY money is used to drop bombs where I do not want them dropped.
Are there no taxpayers in D.C. sending their children to public schools?
These are rhetorical questions, I just wanted to make these points.
Another point (again), this is America, these people can hold signs in public places, they chose where they live and follow guidelines.
