Ms. Maddow,
You erred in tonight's recap of the Martin-Zimmerman case when you said "local authorities refused to arrest Zimmerman." In fact, the police officer sent to the case did want to arrest and charge Zimmerman (and that's why he had hand-cuffs on when brought to the police station). It was the Prosecutor's Office who informed the police they would not prosecute, forcing the police to release Zimmerman.
I would not assume that Mr West or any other Republican "supports public parks." Todays Republicans just barely support the idea of public fire stations.
If Allen West wants to talk about Communism, he should take a good look at Michigan. In what is going on in Michigan, can be very much interpreted as the Republicans promoting Communism and a Dictatorship. The GOP/Republican Party has done nothing but do destructive things to destroy America and remove people’s rights and have got to be the biggest deceivers and hypocrites around.
Rachel, you asked about why Michigan isn't bigger news, well it's a difficult topic. The topic requires honest reporting and can't be watered down to a he-said-she-said two-sided interview that's all the rage, now. Unfortunately the conviction (and let's be honest, courage) it takes to follow this story is something that is lacking in the Stenographic Media.
Nobody wants to believe that 'democracy' could ever be under threat, especially in our own country by our own people (the not brown-skinned nor asian ones) and the news-dispensers are only too comfortable not delivering the uncomfortable news. Why report on something that could possibly hurt the bottom line?
According to 'Mother Jones' 3-15-12, and common sense, Mich. emergency managers' ability and desire to invalidate contracts for wages and benefits will further damage the economy by reducing the amount employees have to spend on products and services. Fiscal austerity is what is strangling European economies. The GOP love to compare President Obama's policies as European socialism. yet they are the ones denying free market economics in Mich. as well as denying voting and worker's rights. ALEC has its fingerprints all over this.
Just wanted to say something about Romney's wife who was very fortunate to be a stay-at-home-mother, but let's be real, she had maids, cooks, and nursemaids to handle just the children. She was there for them to play with, take places with a helping hand so she cannot compare herself to the "regular" moher who goes it alone. They are so wealthy they cannot put themselves in the same place as the rest of us. I am glad she has sons who are wealthy and apparently doing well. They are a family who are in a different time, much like the days of England when the classes did not mingle.
