About a month ago, failed Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain released this video, calling for an "Army of Davids" to join him a "revolution." As part of this endeavor, Cain says he and his allies will "descend upon the Goliath called Capitol Hill," and demand support for his ridiculous "9-9-9" tax plan.
Remember, this video is sincere, and not a parody intended to make Cain appear foolish.
Today, of course, is April 16, the kick off for "Cain's Revolution on the Hill Rally and Patriot Summit." How many soldiers in Cain's "Army of Davids" showed up? Slate's Dave Weigel published this photo from Capitol Hill about a half-hour ago.
According to Cain's political action committee, Dick Morris, Steve Moore, John Fund, and Dinesh D'Souza, among others, were confirmed speakers for today's event. This lineup apparently inspired tens of people to participate.
In the video, Cain proudly declares, "We, the people, are coming." If he meant, "We, a hundred or so people, which includes some reporters who showed up because they were curious, are coming," then Cain was absolutely right.

He forgot to invite Colbert.
We shall ever be indebted to Caine and Perry for their comedy relief. Michele Bachmann is much too abrasive to be included in this grouping. The good people of Texas may not enjoy the comedic side of Rick.
As a Texas resident, I can say that yes, we - at least the intelligent ones among us - definitely enjoy the comedy gold that is Rick Perry.
Oh, yes, we do. Gov. Goodhair has been the butt of many, many anecdotes about dumbos and dunces, and if Ms. Molly were still around, she would be leading the laughing section. As it was, she left a bunch of Goodhair witticisms.
“In Texas, we do not hold high expectations for the [governor's] office; it's mostly been occupied by crooks, dorks and the comatose.”
• Next time I tell you someone from Texas should not be president of the United States, please pay attention.
Hah! Cain-train isn't chuggin' too well these days.. or if ever. I still have half a braincell railing against common logic in hopes this man is a parody-expert. Master Parody! Parodaster (or disaster). Or perhaps since conservative's like to take "mainstream" anything and warp it to their player base.. He's just your average internet troll, super-conservative off-the-rocker style that's become freakishly acceptable.
Later on Faux News we'll hear "Thousands of patriots gathered at Herman Cain's rally today!" ....
Because when Stewart & Colbert did their's... only a couple pathetic hundred showed up that day.
I'd laugh, but I'm afraid I'd only crack further.
Dick Morris, John Fund, D'Souza and Herm Cain!!! How absolutely awe inspiring! Be still my beating heart!
If only I had known and been in driving distance. Then I could have added to the throngs of worshippers and there could have been dozens of people instead of just tens of peoples.
/snark
Hopefully another sign of the impending death of the tea party.
With Dick Morris, Steve Moore, John Fund, and Dinesh D'Souza as the guest speakers, it's a wonder anybody showed up. What a lackluster list. Nothing but a bunch of puppets reciting conservative talking points.
LOL. Cain can't blame the weather for keeping the multitudes away.
Oh, this is so sad a sight I almost feel bad for laughing about it.
Wow. That greenscreening was so bad it wouldn't cut it on That Guy with the Glasses.
To quote Spoony: "When you're doing worse composite shots than me, stop making movies!"
A blind man leading the blind.
His ass would have been a slave in 1773....I suppose that he still is in many ways....
Seriously, best entertainment for this election- Cain, Bachmann, Palin and Perry.
Herman Cain....suuuuuuper geeeeeniussssss!
I don't get the taxes are oppressive part??? The 1% are paying the lowest rate in history??? And they really don't care about the rest of us!
OMG this is terrifying..So glad I have my Dachshund to protect me against this gang of patriots.. Hmmmm from the looks of the chairs that were provided, they didn't expect a very large crowd..
Wow! That's more people than I would have expected!
Have we seen Herman's tax returns lately? He's one of the few that would stand to gain from his 9-9-9 plan.
The chickens were better.
I don't know about 9-9-9 but the tax code needs to be simplified and FAIR!
My name is David and this so called intelligent man calls for a plan that just makes no sense! I call on this Army that he wants to enlist for his 9-9-9 plan to tell him to go away.Go back to being a "PLAYA" Find another woman who will play with you sir and leave all the rest of us alone.
Prerequisite to being a republican voter: You have to know how to switch mid-way between ass cheeks. Fickle Right wing voters...... Herman is learning the hard way that he is no longer flavor of the day.
ooops - switch a kiss midway between ass-cheeks......
The stupidity of his 9-9-9 plan is bad enough, but his claim, along with every republican, that somehow we are overtaxed at a time when income tax rates are the lowest they have been in the modern era would be ludicrous if so many didn't believe it. Low tax rates, in particular lowering tax rates on capital gains, are the primary source of the Federal budget deficit, and lead to economic stagnation. Lowering taxes further will just further limit government's ability to do the basic things that everybody acknowledges they want it to do, will not deal with the deficit about which they seem so concerned, and drive the economy further into a ditch.
The next time Romney or any other republican talks about how horrible the economy is as a reason for replacing the President, the media should ask them to respond by detailing exactly how their policies would make things better. So far I have heard nothing from them but more of what we had under Bush, which got us into this mess.
Interesting that he is wearing a Santorum approved sweater vest in the video....
If by freedom you mean instituting a tax plan that would be regressive for most, then yes, you would be totally free to pay more taxes. And to bring the race card into this, does anyone else find it ironic that a rich black man is calling for a tax plan that would raise taxes on poor black and brown people, and do it while wrapping himself in the flag and talking about "freedom"?
