A couple of weeks ago, Holly Bahn of New Mexico suggested a personalized message for Virginia's Planned Parenthood license plate, the one reading "Trust women. Respect choice." Her pick: VRGYNYA.
I wasn't sure it would pass the filters for explicit reference to ladyparts, but maybe I was just misreading the plate. FTR, Rachel said she thought it would be fine. You can see now who won. David and Sandee Delano of Williamsburg, Virginia, send the picture above and a note:
When we saw the winner of the Virginia license plate contest on The Maddow Blog, we LOVED it!
So.....we decided to see if we could get it. It arrived today! It's a good match with all the bumper stickers!
They haven't had much response to the plate so far, but David says they've only just now started driving it around town. "We did get a positive response from one of our sons," he writes. "When she asked him if he thought it was too much, he replied 'No, you need to rock that, Mom.' High praise indeed."
(We love getting stuff. Send more.)

Dear Dave & Sandee,
I love your plates and the stickers. Right now I'm just a bit green, sort of, that whole va-jay-jay probe thing - not so much, but love the plates.
Your fan.
Zora
Thanks Zora. Hopefully, we will be able to get our "probe" state back from the wingnuts. There will be a Unite Women event in Richmond on April 28th: http://www.facebook.com/#!/events/131265017003012/ Please join us if you can and spread the word. :-)
Awesome Sandra D.! I'll be in Harrisburg PA that day!
What ever happened to "Virginia is for lovers"?
All those lovers led to too many probes.
...and they can't be gay either!
For me, there's no conflict! ;-)
As a Murlinder, it's nice to see people in VA who aren't barbarians. Despite the fact that Murlin is filled with pinko commie liberals (who are proud to be) and Vrrginnia is completely nuts, I think we can all agree that y'alls governor was taking things way too far. I mean, seriously. We have O'Malley legalizing gay marriage and y'all have McDonald banning a woman's right to NOT be raped. It's not even funny anymore.
Hell with the plates. I read your stickers and told myself there's someone who I would love as a friend and neighbor!
Cool !
Prius = icing on the cake
Here is my tag, also from the lovely state of Virginia!

Careful! Old MacDonald's going to want to probe your car now.
Dang! It will only let me vote for this once! *sighs*
I'd love to have you as a friend. *Love it!* I'm just wondering how you got that past the censors.
Wait, need a bigger picture -- can you take one that shows the whole plate? And when did you get it?
LOL, this almost makes me wish I lived in Virginia!
@laura conway, I received it two weeks ago. I don't have an actual camera anymore, just an iphone, but here is the link to a better picture on flikr.

Thanks, @Becky -- I'm trying to reach out to you by email. One sec.
Beca, bwaaaaaaa!!!! Now your VAJAJAY will famous across the nation!
The Maddow Show needs to do a Busby Berkeley dance production with vaginal probes in your honor!
As a 25+ year resident of VA, I like to hope I have helped somewhat by contributing four daughters born and raised here, and one born in PA but raised here, who are all Pro-Choice, Pro-Women. One made a T-shirt, years ago, saying " Vagina is for Lovers."
I will be moving next month to, yes, Wisconsin.
Will not be producing any new daughters for them, though.
Welcome to Wisconsin - Please register to vote as soon as you get to Wisconsin as we need all the legal votes we can possibly get for our effort to RECALL SCOTT WALKER! Where in Wisconsin are you moving to? The big "W" used to mean Wisconsin Badgers and now it also seems to mean "War on Women".
Fabulous!
Dear Rachel, Please run for office!
i loved her son's comment: you need to rock that, mom!
The combination of the plate and the stickers are very good. Rock that plate!
Be careful though. I've lived in VA and now live in MD, the "Free State." I used to have liberal bumper stickers on my car, until I was harassed, threatened and Threatened with being fired. All different occasions.
Yes, I know. It can be bad. BUT-I am sick of people being anonymous and bitching. Luckily, I do not park at the same office every day-all over the place.
Wonder if I can get a license plate in Arizona that describes our politicians: AZ OLS
wow, the new license plate for virginia is cool!
where can i get some liberal bumper stickers?
Try http://www.northernsun.com/home/bumper-stickers.html
My bumper sticker of choice came from Sojourners.com - God is NOT a Republican -or a democrat. I felt the need for it when I was living in Tennessee.
Yes, as mightbeliberal suggested northern sun is the best-all liberal/progressive stuff. I am constantly changing mine and can always find some here.
The ones on the car are from Stamp and Shout, based in, you guessed it, Portland OR. I used to have bumper stickers on my car like the Prius has, but now I have to drive it for work and had to take them off--sigh. They do have some magnet stickers, so maybe it's time to invest in those.
http://www.stampandshout.com/
If I did something like that in AZ they'd probably key the car, run us off the road, throw rotten eggs at it etc. You risk your life with Obama and I oppose SB 1070 bumper stickers.
And point guns at you too. Used to live in AZ.
Gotta love the Delanos! The plate is priceless. Love the stickers too.
How awesome! It came to life! David and Sandra - it looks spectacular on your car. It was my plate idea and I feel connected across the miles to this really cool car and bold people. Smiling here in NM and hoping we won't need to design a similar plate here any time soon.
P.S. it's "Bahn", like autobahn... but with all this re-spelling going on, all's well. ;-)
Awesome! NM is a BEAUTIFUL state. We briefly lived in Ruidoso and have traveled all over. Mystical state-love it. Thanks for the great idea!! We are connected!
Excellent tag but I'm surprised that the slogan "Respect women, respect choice" was even allowed.
True--I looked at the NC DMV site. You can get a license plate supporting tobacco farming but not Planned Parenthood. Not surprised, really.
There are actually a lot of us more reasonable, even liberal leaning types living in Virginia. Concievably, because of our current gang of crazies running our State, we might all be tempted to give up and move except for the fact that we own homes we can't yet sell and a poor job market.
The likes of Cantor, Cuccinelli, McDonald and that weirdo that tried to ban baggie pants in public have made Virginia look like crazies live here... remember, we did actually help put our current President into office.
If we're lucky and work hard... maybe we can do it again and get rid of these fools!
Amen!!!
VaJaJay. I love it. thanks for that.
Thanks for all the kind comments about our new plates everyone! I have to admit though, I like Becky's plates just as much! I just watched the preview of tonights show and they said they're going to do a segment on the plates...I think Becky's, too! Stay tuned!
David
I just got an email from a producer...they may have to postpone the segment on the plates until tomorrow night....no matter, we watch every night anyway!
If I ever see you on the road, I'm going to run you off the road and give you a gigantic hug.
Love the plate, love the stickers, LOVE that her son is behind mom all the way!
Raised my boys to be tolerant bleeding heart liberals. They are wonderful men now!
I almost choked when I looked beyond the license plate and saw the Prius loaded with bumper stickers. I own a Prius and I think being sticker-prone is a prerequisite to Prius ownership. My bumper reads (amongst other things) "MILLIONS AGAINST MONSANTO", "COMPOST HAPPENS", and "I LOVE POLKA MUSIC". Alas, even though I'm from Wisconsin, I have a somewhat mundane plate: 2 MOAB. Then again, my windows and tires are still intact.
