Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* In national polling, a Pew Research Center poll shows President Obama leading Mitt Romney, 49% to 45%; a Reuters poll shows Obama leading Romney, 47% to 43%; and a New York Times/CBS News poll shows them tied at 46% each.
* In Florida, arguably the nation's most important swing state, Public Policy Polling shows Obama leading Romney by five, 50% to 45%.
* In the special election to fill the seat vacated by Gabrielle Giffords in Arizona, the parties chose their respective nominees for a special election: Republicans backed former candidate Jesse Kelly and Democrats chose former Giffords aide Ron Barber.
* As New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie (R) continues to talk about his availability for the 2012 ticket, Virginia Gov. Bob "Ultrasound' McDonnell (R) plans to air positive TV ads about himself in the coming weeks. Since McDonnell can't run for re-election, the move probably has something to with improving his standing during the Romney campaign's VP search.
* On Tuesday, former U.S. Comptroller General David Walker said he doesn't want to run for president. On Wednesday, Walker said the opposite, and is eyeing the Americans Elect ballot.
* The Democratic Party chair in the state of Washington is not at all fond of the idea of Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) moving to the Evergreen State to run for Congress.
* And the Obama campaign unveiled a series of Spanish-language ads this morning, including this one. (Note that the president even says the "I approve this message" message in Spanish.)

I've heard of numerous politicians, both sides, doing what Kucinich is trying to do. Once they lose their seat, they move to be able to run in a different state or district. Is it time for free agency rules in politics? i.e. If you lose an election, and move, you must sit out 4 years or one election cycle, whichever is shorter.
I don't mind Kucinich, but I've never liked this idea of moving simply so you can run for congress again.
And Bobby Kennedy and Hillary Clinton, both moving to New York? I liked those ideas.
No reason people can't move freely from one place to another. The limiting factor for politicians is they won't be known by the new district, so they have to start at ground zero building support. Good luck to Kucinich with that.
2008 was a hope for, and a statement of, the desire for a post racial America. The pendulum may now swing the other way. 2012 could be a referendum on collective white guilt for slavery. Ignoring the possibility puts all Democrats, and the country, in peril. Look below the surface. We now know, from the Martin case, that Latinos who are not clearly black are white. Vote Obama if you admit your collective guilt and agree to pay slavery reparations; else, vote for anyone, no matter his platform. This garbage needs to be seen in the light - we can not pretend it does not exist! It is real. (What genes, associated white white skin, are responsible for 'collective guilt')?
And when we "look below the surface", and ignore his incoherent BS, we know that the poster Thomas Walsh is a racist. How do I know this? Well, he thinks that the outrage about the fact that a man (irrespective of his color) was not even arrested or charged with anything after hunting down and killing a teenager. Despite police 911 audio record clearly asking him not to chase the deceased.
Thomas Walsh, you are a racist and an idiot. And you are callous too!
^ I'm glad somebody figured it out because I'm just completely baffled by it. I'll take your take on the "comment".
I guess any discussion of 'collective guilt' cruelty is not possible. The Martin case is sensational not because people voted into office legislators who enacted laws that provoke violence; but because the perpetrator must hate black people (...is guilty). There is enough real racism without making it up. If the violence were black on black or white on white, the outrage would be the same...really? Of course, the facts are not yet certain in the Martin case.
If we can not even discuss the 'collective guilt' for slavery issue, there can never be a post racial America. There is enough simmering white anger that Pres. Obama can forget about re election. Mr. Romney's position on issues do not matter at all. I hope responsible people do pay attention. (What do you think the recent rants in the news are about)?
I am amazed that the President and others on the Democratic side keep talking about taxing the rich to make it "fair" for everybody. That's fine, but I do not understand why not a single Democrat ever mentions the fact that "Republicans are stead fast in keeping their pledge to Grover Nordquist's to never raise taxes, yet could care less about keeping their pledge to the American People when they took their oath of office"... What a campaign slogan that every American would understand..
Well actually Democrats and the media have been talking about the fact that the 'elected by the people' RWers abandoned their responsibility to the people before they were even sworn in when they signed Nordquist's anti American pledge.
I never cease to be amazed at the President's ability to overcome the spin coming from the RWers. He is making great strides pointing out that Democrats want what all Americans desire and that is FAIRNESS.
