Today's installment of campaign-related news items that won't necessarily generate a post of their own, but may be of interest to political observers:
* In national polling, NBC/Wall Street Journal shows President Obama leading Mitt Romney by six (49% to 43%); Public Policy Polling shows Obama ahead by three (49% to 46%); and an Economist/YouGov poll shows Obama up by seven (49% to 42%).
* Speaking of polls, a new Fox News survey shows Obama leading Romney in Florida by two points (45% to 43%), and the president also ahead in Ohio by six points (45% to 39%).
* Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) made some provocative remarks about Romney's faith tradition yesterday, saying the Republican's family "came from a polygamy commune in Mexico." The Obama campaign quickly denounced the comments.
* The Romney campaign raised $12.6 million in March, his best month so far in this cycle.
* Karl Rove's attack operation, American Crossroads, meanwhile, has raised $100 million so far this cycle.
* North Carolina Democratic Party Chairman David Parker says he'll step down, just not now.
* In Florida, incumbent Sen. Bill Nelson (D) isn't wildly popular, but Public Policy Polling nevertheless shows him leading each of his GOP challengers by double digits.
* Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), running for a full term this year, said yesterday he hasn't decided whether or not to support Obama's re-election.
* And with Romney scheduled to campaign in Arizona today with Sen. John McCain (R), super PAC American Bridge thought it'd be fun to remind folks what McCain has said about Romney in recent years.

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), running for a full term this year, said yesterday he hasn't decided whether or not to support Obama's re-election.
Tell me again why The Obomination continues to support DLC/DINO/Repuke-Lites who continue to stab him in the back?
Tell me again why The Obomination continues to not support progressives?
Obomination? Sad&Old, you are so juvenile and very unfunny. What an idiot!
Sad&Old&Depressed....
- Guantanamo
- Afganistan
- continuing erosion of civil liberties
- ongoing capituations to repukes
And many more reasons that Obama is The Obomination! Totally distinct from the many reasons (many named Mitt) that I will be working hard for Obama's reelection.
I have to agree with SOV and poopoo on you Bootoome, I will vote for him but Obama will never get another dime from me for re-election. See list above! I'm not aguing against you being easily un/impressed (or assuming the position yourself) however Obamination is hardly the worst thing you could call a President after having prolonged a war long enough to have troops show up presenting enemy body parts for photographs plastered across the interwebs.. Barbarism begets barbarism, but I guess he's not paid to have a conscience..
Happy Trails, one man's idiot..
Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer (D) made some provocative remarks about Romney's faith tradition yesterday, saying the Republican's family "came from a polygamy commune in Mexico." The Obama campaign quickly denounced the comments.
What is untrue about Schweitzer's remarks? Is speaking the truth unacceptable (if you are a democrat)?
Tell me again why Mittens and the repukes can whitewash comments from Ted Nugent and Rush Limbaugh and The Obomination and dumbocraps have to denounce accurate comments?
Am I the only one who gets tired of the one-sided nature of all of this faux outrage?
Am I the only one who would like to see Obama and the dems grow some spines? Am I the only one who is tired of seeing Bernie Sanders and Nancy Pelosi as the only dems in D.C. who have a pair of balls?
I'm right there with you Veteran. For the last 20+ years, it's been beyond exasperating watching Democrats "assume the position" and then beg for more with their congenital spinelessness. And it's cost them elections. What voter believes someone will stand up for them when the politician won't even stand up for himself?
Am I the only woman who reads these posts who is outraged by comments like SOV and DWAs? Balls? Spine? Assume the position? Stop with the pseudo-masculine outrage (which is unbecoming to adults who want to be respected.) No candidate or President or party is perfect; yes, constructive criticism can encourage growth; there is not supposed to be any religious litmus test for anyone running for office, but to criticize the President and VP for criticizing those who try to do so is not an example of apologizing for such. I want our President to act as an adult, not what was once called a "Not-OK Child". I'd like to see the same from his supporters.
Why do Democrats, in the instance the Obama campaign, feel the need to walk around apologizing when someone says something TRUE but uncomfortable about Republicans. Hell, Republicans don't castigate their own even when they go around spouting debunked lies on any and every topic. And especially when it's a persona attack by a Republican on a Democrat, there is no show of remorse coming from Republicans.
Democrats need to learn to fight fire with fire. It'd be a start to stop apologizing for telling the truth about Republicans. Good grief!
Could it not be just to keep the furor going, to advertise it a bit??? Here's hoping. I'm sure half the country at least doesn't even know Mitt is a Mormon, or that Mormons were formed with polygamy in mind: you know one dominant male gets the women...
It is time for the Schweitzers and others to keep up acknowledging it, while the president can look 'above it all' or at least nicer than the other guys who have attacked his religion(s) mercilessly, loudly and very, very often. [They think he has at least two, three if you add Mitt's claim Obama is trying to establish a religion of secularism].
No. This is just "assume the position" congenital reflexes of the modern day Democrat. It's impossible to imagine FDR, Truman, Kennedy, Johnson bending over every time they feared a Republican got his feelings hurt by some Democrat. Or any of those taking the insults that are daily administered by the Republicans and their echo chamber supporters. They would have fought fire with fire and would have won the people to their side on these sort of outrages by today's right. Today's Democrat is a sad reminder of just how cowardly a political actor can be. Just pathetic.
Cowardly or complicit? At a certain point, the pandering sweet-nothings become lip-service-poutrage while never having to make an actual, difficult stand.
Dubya never had a 60+ fillibuster-proof majority and he still got a ton of stuff passed.
I'm being convinced that Dems are just plain lazy while taking advantage of the blue votes in one hand and benefiting from Republican tax cuts for the wealthy with the other.
I don't understand. I do not see where Democrats or the Obama campaign going around apologizing for any statement made. Your argument sounds like Romney's claim that President Obama keeps apologizing for America, which is not true.
The White House denouncing a statement is a way for the Administration to voice their state of disapproval for the statement (whether it is because the statement is untrue or that it was not relevant to be made - despite of whether or not the statement itself was true.) It doesn't mean they apologize for it.
The fact that Romney or any of the Republican has never denounce anything coming from the crazy part of their own party (even when they are untrue or trully inappropriate) should have nothing to do with what the Democrat or the Administration do. If anything the denouncement from the Administration shows that they have more spine than Romney as they are willing to stand up to tell their own to cut the nonsense out even though they know they need the vote from those people come election time.
Why feed the religious right who must be scrambling for a reason to support Mitt. They already lost St Torum and the Rovians are praying POB gives them another reason to say he is anti religion. The moralistic exclusionists on the right need to continue to be damned for their close-mindedness, and they will implode better left to their own devices and bigotry. The left has plenty of good issues to use. Let the teflon Mormon self-destruct without inflaming the paranoid, self-righteous.
This is the standard Democratic thinking and response. It JUST DOESN'T WORK.
I do not believe the polls suggesting that the presidential race is tightening to the degree that pundits are suggesting. The enormous lead that Obama has concerning personal characteristics is an innocuous poll and, I contend, more reliable as it does not require a definitive immediate decision.
Human nature abhors confrontation that is accounted for in the margin for error. I believe it is possible, based on the like-ability numbers, to assess the margin for error numbers differently.
The Obama voters are firmer in their support from a like-ability standpoint, while a Romney supporter is more likely to state their human nature. No one that is a republican with reservations about Romney is likely to state that to some anonymous pollster.
There are many things to desire that Obama is not fulfilling for progressives. To criticize him and to point out what we perceive to be his shortcomings is to have some hope that he can be a 'better' president.
With all of the reasons to desire a better, stronger, more progressive Obama; it is still necessary to understand that we must work hard to get him reelected. The downside for the poor, the elderly, the working classes, and those who are not part of the 1% of a Romney presidency and a republican dominated government is horrendous to contemplate.
Quiz Question: Why should the american people always elect a democrat as president and never a republican?
Quiz Answer: When a republican is elected president, the american working class knows that it is going to get screwed. When a democrat is elected president, we can pretend to be surprised when the american working class gets screwed.
WHERE are Willard's lies of the week?
it's Friday
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), running for a full term this year, said yesterday he hasn't decided whether or not to support Obama's re-election.
Why doesn't this worthless excuse for a human being just run as the Republican he really is? But then again, what do you expect from ten generations of marrying first cousins there in Hillbilly Heaven?
As to what Schweitzer said about Romney's history, that's pure historical fact.
Manchin should change parties and be done with it. We do not need anymore Blue Dogs and DINO's on the progressive side. The only thing holding Manchin back is the GOP has gone off the deep end.
Yep...he should take the Joe Lieberman way....go Independent cause he is too embarrassed to go Republican.
Again Democrats; the ad is too long for bite. Use one damning clip followed by one complimentary damning phrase, then R-L-R, not in the same commercial. This commercial speaks to people who have an attention span longer than 12 seconds. Those aren't the voters whose minds you're trying to change!
I say we start the debates NOW! Don't wait for the Grand Opposition Party to continue dragging their feet on the economy for another 6 months ... or the Conventions ... if its Romney vs Obama ... lets get it on ... let POTUS refute the lies and misleadings of Mittens ... in front of a live audience ... the American people deserve to know when the Etch A Sketch of the GOP nominee will shake and the path that this desperate man will take while listening to his wife ...
All of this money being raised for political races and we have thousands of veterans sleeping on the streets, tonight! Well look on the bright side, the numbers are going down, cause they changed how they count them and it really has been a mild winter!
