There's been some scuttlebutt about Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels (R) possibly becoming Mitt Romney's running mate. Folks may want to put those rumors on hold for a little while.
Gov. Mitch Daniels of Indiana endorsed Mitt Romney for president on Wednesday -- then criticized him a day later in an interview with The Indianapolis Star. [...]
"You have to campaign to govern, not just to win," Mr. Daniels told Matthew Tully of The Indianapolis Star. "Spend the precious time and dollars explaining what's at stake and a constructive program to make life better. And as I say, look at everything through the lens of folks who have yet to achieve."
According to Mr. Tully, "after a pause, Daniels added with disappointment, 'Romney doesn't talk that way.' "
Daniels went on to urge Romney to talk with voters "with some specificity" about his agenda, with the implication being that the presumptive Republican nominee has not yet done so thus far.
In the larger context, the fact that Daniels was publicly critical of Romney a day after endorsing him falls into another pattern we've seen: Romney's supporters are less than kind towards their preferred presidential candidate.
Shortly after Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) threw his support to Romney, the senator said, "There are a lot of other people out there that some of us wish had run for president -- but they didn't." Shortly after former NRCC Chairman Tom Davis endorsed Romney, he said on national television, "He may not be Mr. Personality. You know, he's the guy who gives the fireside chat and the fire goes out."
And shortly after Jon Huntsman announced his support for Romney, he argued on MSNBC in support of "some sort of third-party movement or some alternative voice out there that can put forward new ideas."
Can't you just feel the enthusiasm among Romney's highest-profile supporters?

""Spend the precious time and dollars explaining what's at stake and a constructive program to make life better."
I wonder did Gov. Daniels "explain" how he wanted to disenfranchise the people of Indiana before he became governor? Hypocrites thou art the GOP!
They know he is a loser and they don't want to be hitched to a falling star. So, they endorse with a privso. After the inevitable loss, there will be the "I told you so." and "If only . . ." BUT you know, "it's his turn . . . ."
The GOP is more concerned with winning more local elections and taking control through the Senate and the House and more governors.
What little respect I might have had before, is non-existent now.
Mr. Romney may buy the job of President, however
he can not count on us liking him!
Romney is going to pick an obscure evangelical who has not offended a lot of minority groups. All the names being tossed around are not going to get the nod because they may overshadow Romney.
Daniels went on to urge Romney to talk with voters "with some specificity"
Romney said, "Obama is a failed president. I won't be." How much more specific can he be?
Frankley, I think the only reason the repubs. want to
be President is so they can steal whatever we can put back into our country. (Bush Chenney) thieves!
Kind of sounds like sour grapes to me. Or rats on the Titanic.
One thing I think we can bank on, the running mate of Romney will probably only strengthen the ticket. I kind of doubt we will get a repeat of the last presidential election campaign that selected S.P. to doom themselves. But, ya never know…
Still so many dislike Romney, but you see how Nugent reflects the disdain so many have for Obama. All they have to is say "I'm for gun rights" or "I'm for lower taxes and spending".
The negativity is/was tapped into in 2010, but I think many would prefer to hear a strategy that is positive and looks successful.
I do not think people that need jobs would view "Bain Capital-like" business as a successful plan for economy, though. Most people know that economy will improve when more (not less) people are employed and buying things.
