Just when you thought we couldn't have more fun with Virginia license plates, the commonwealth added a "Don't Tread on Me" plate. Back in 2010, Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli said that if the DMV added the Tea Party-esque plates, he would put them on his car. The idea is to celebrate limited government, now in the land that mandates medically unnecessary ultrasounds for women who want an abortion.
As with Virginia's "Respect Women. Trust Choice" plate, this one comes the option to customize the message. After the jump, Margaret Doyle of Richmond, Virginia, sends a picture of the Planned Parenthood tag she .
If you decide to try personalizing one of the new Gadsden Flag plates, take a screengrab like the ones you see here and send it in. We can round up the best ones for a slideshow.

Don't tread on me...
"men only"
"x women"
"not wmen"
"4menonly"
Laura, love these postings you come up with.
DR NOT VA
"IOKIYAR"
I thinkv a hoop snake eating it's tail would be more appropriate.
how about "NOPROBE."
How about:
"Trst men 2 chz"
"Men r rite"
"Woman, plz"
"Men thinking"
POISND
This one is much tougher; they don't let you write over the snake. (I guess that would be "treading" on it.)
yeah, i think commenters above have missed the fact that you only get 6 characters. which is too bad because i was hoping for some contraction of "Snakes on a Plate".
done.

I don't know, do you really want a snake that close to your Virgynia?
Well not a rattlesnake Vox ;-)
The Gadsen's flag may not have to do w/ the Tea Party in it's entirety. The Gadsen flag was the first flag to be carried into combat by the US Marines during the Revolutionary War and currently the Naval Jack of the US Navy is currently a Don't Tread on Me flag set to a red and white striped background.

Remember that Norfolk, VA is home to the largest naval base in the entire world:

There are also several other joint operations, smaller detached naval stations, and a large marine corps base at Quantico. The Quantico base is called the Marine Corps crossroads.

There are still other bases that aren't listed here such as the naval installation in Richmond, VA which is home to several US Navy EOD and Navy SEAL teams.
Just saying VA is one of the few states that might actually have a claim to the Gadsen flag outside of the Tea Party.
True that.
I've been in/on most of those.

That's actually exactly what I did!

Why are you mandated to buy a license plate with a limited government GOP legislature and a Republican Governor? He hasn't vetoed this idea yet? Or he just likes the opportunity for personalizing the plates?
An etching of Willie Lynch would seem more appropriate.
Nice blogs - but when do we talk of the constitutional path? "Congress shall make no law with respect to religion?" and then there are 9 and 10, which say rights need not be listed to be real and rights not granted are reserved to the people or the States (more closely governed by those people) - and then while they were working out how to protect prior slaves, they said in 14 that "No State shall enact or enforce any law that abridges the privileges or immunities of any citizen of the United States...." See where this get us?
Personally, my religion dictates no contraception and no abortion - but I was American by birth when I chose, later as a young man, to become a catholic. As so, I believe God would forgive me if I asked - after I shot the rapist - After I paid for and facilitated the abortion for my 14 year old daughter after the rape, God is all forgiving - even if I buy pills for my wife, not for sex, but because they control the duration of PMS, the cramps, the pain, the general discomfort....
As for my rights and beliefs - I would defend to the death, the right of another, to NOT have to conform to my religion - to have his or her own - or none... Would you?
I will have my guns and my bible and my Faith - but I will have my country first and foremost - and no one who would swear an oath to protect and defend the constitution of the United States, and then work insidiously to enact State or Federal Legislation that works to wreck the privilege between a woman or a man and a doctor - that requires invasive procedures not deemed by the doctor as medically necessary Will ever get my support or vote - as they - are truly UN-American Communist-Fascists and that may be an insult to our Russian Friends who remain Party members...
In America, they are Republican, Tea Party (just and abbreviation for Trouble) Right wing Religious Fanatics who can't keep the Church out of State! No Church is guaranteed anything, No minister, Pastor, Rabbi or Priest has any more to say during a church service about the path of government - than the individual single right of each church member - and so they may preach, but when they issue a call to action at the ballot or calls to legislator from the pulpit - I believe the IRS should investigate continued support in the protection afforded the organization under separation - not afforded the individuals in their rights or with their wages.
Of course, when my Pastor is too political he doesn't find my tithe in the basket. I use it direct when I get home by throwing two hundred dollar bills in the air and letting god keep what he wants. So far he hasn't kept a dime. God Bless us all!
"SNKPLT" or just "slthr" But I believe I recall from my Marine Training - the Gadsen''s Flag - was originally from Vermont - Those Green Mountain Boys - and then split into 13 body sections representing the thirteen Colonies - after the Congress agreed to accept Vermont separate from New York - when it was originally part of NY and separated during the discourse to freedom.
Yeah, sorry, I wasn't trying to say that the flag itself originated in Virginia. What I meant was because Virginia has such a large naval and marine base there would be probably a lot of marines and sailors and their family members who would be looking to honor that. License plates are a really popular means by which people flaunt (and I mean that in a good way) their military association. You see the plates for recipients of the Purple Heart, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, there's even one for the Medal of Honor. There are also US Navy, US Marine Corps, US Air Force, US Army, National Guard, Air National Guard, and Coast Guard plates that you can purchase. It would make sense to me that in a state w/ such a large population of marines and sailors that they'd want to include that w/ the state's plates. So I was just postulating that maybe the whole "don't tread on me" license plate theme wasn't so much about the Tea Party as it was honoring the USN/USMC. I don't know if that's actually true: maybe it really is about The Cooch and his attempt to curry favor w/ the most insane people of his state. Who knows. I was just giving an alternative hypothesis ;-)

The 13 section rattlesnake flag had a motto "Unite or Die"
Actually it was a snake divided into 8 sections ( 4 of New England's colonies shown as one segment and Delaware and Georgia left out entirely) And the motto was "Join or Die". It was a political cartoon by Benjamin Franklin that appeared in the Pennsylvania Gazette May 9, 1754.
Tom Sullivan-, Bravo! I grew up Catholic and for the life of me, I have no idea what is happening in our country today. It's not "Christian".
