In July 2010, NRCC Chairman Pete Sessions (R-Texas) unfortunately told the truth during an interview on "Meet the Press." Republicans had high hopes about the midterm elections, and host David Gregory pressed the Republican leader about what the GOP would do with their majority. Sessions said his party wanted to "go back to the exact same agenda."
In context, the agenda Sessions wanted to "go back to" was that of the Bush/Cheney administration and the Republican Congress of 2006.
Nearly two years later, Pat Garofalo reports on recent comments from Alexandra Franceschi, a press secretary for the Republican National Committee, who was similarly candid in an interview last week.
For those who can't watch or listen to clips online, Franceschi was asked how the 2012 Republican agenda differs from the policies of the Bush/Cheney era. "Is this a different program or is this that program just updated?" the host asked.
Franceschi replied, "I think it's that program, just updated."
This is, oddly enough, exactly what Democrats wanted to hear. For Dems, one of the principal goals of 2012 is to persuade American voters not to go backwards. Bush/Cheney left all kinds of crises for Obama/Biden to clean up, and Democrats will urge the electorate not to return to the failures of the recent past.
The challenge for Mitt Romney and the Republican Party in 2012 is to put some distance between themselves and the debacle of the Bush presidency. This would be easier, of course, if Romney hadn't brought on so many Bush aides as his top advisors, while pushing a policy agenda that's eerily similar to Bush's vision, only more right-wing.
And it'd be much easier if an RNC press secretary weren't effectively admitting that Democrats are right, conceding that the party simply intends to "update" the failed Bush agenda for another decade.
It's likely only a matter of time before we start seeing ads that say, "If you liked George W. Bush, you'll love Mitt Romney."

It's likely only a matter of time before we start seeing ads that say, "If you liked George W. Bush, you'll love Mitt Romney."
That of course assumes that the Democrats, in addition to a spine implant have had a brain implant. And we all know what "ass-u-me" does. Sorry, it's "a fact not in evidence" till we see them actually do it. Don't expect the Village Idiots to be doing it, for sure.
Keep thinking that way, all the way to November. Please! The Republicans have angered more groups this year than ever, and it does matter! Unions, women, Latinos, Poor people, people with pre-existing conditions, are going to make sure that they are able to vote. Even with your voter id laws, it will happen!
So basically there will be another bail-out by the taxpayers, and another group of war-criminals that will be wanted by the Hague for "crimes against humanity"?! Gee, just when I thought the rest of the world was starting to believe that Americans were coming out of their delusions, here we go again....Time to move!
Unfortunately, many Americans never did come out of their delusions, still believe that George W Bush was the greatest thing since canned beer and won't be changing their minds any time soon. I believe the word for them is 'Suckers,' one of which every minute another one is allegedly born. Which would explain O'Reilly's ratings pretty well.
Would FOX' ratings be as high IF Comcast and other carriers put MSNBC on the basic cable package instead of asking $20-40$ more a month for inclusion?
"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it" (Santayana). It's our job to keep the drumbeat going throughout the summer and fall to remind them why drifting back to Republican ideas is a horrible idea.
I'm holding my breath 'til those ads start. Oops! I exhaled! The DNC, the Obama Administration nor any other Democratic Party group has the intestinal fortitude to use that quote. Mitt and the rest of the folks at the Repugnantcan Party have given the DNC so much fodder for blasting away. I have YET to hear Congresswoman Debbie Wassermann-Schultz use even ONE of those idiocies that have been spewing from their mouths as a talking point. Is it any wonder that the race has tightened to 3 points? This was the Democrats' race to lose. They are doing a fine job of it.
Mitt should be very happy that Democrats have no spines. That way, he can lie his backside off without fear of anyone ever calling him out. Ed Schultz was grousing about how Mitt lies all the time but never gets called out on it. Lawrence O'Donnell was grousing about how the MSM will never call anything Mitt says a "lie", even when it is demonstrably, factually a lie. Whose fault is all that? It is the Democratic Party's fault, that's who! The MSM is not going to go looking for that story. They are too lazy. If the Democratic Party issued a press release calling Mitt a liar or if Debbie Wassermann-Schultz held a press conference and flatly called Mitt out as a liar, that would be reported. But to sit and wait? It'll never happen. And to do it, the Democratic Party leadership needs to rid itself of the DLC, grow a spine and start playing mean like the Repugnantcans.
A sucker is 'born again' every minute. For those who don't remember. Take the money out of your wallet and your dreams for the future and hand them to them to the richest person you know.
Why does this lady remind me of Miss Teen South Carolina with her spiel?

She's just missing the intro: "I personally believe.." with her line of horse@!$%# about a fiscal debt crisis..
Since Romney doesn't have any ideas of his own, he has to go back and borrow some from the Bush Administration.
Don't ask a fish to ride a bicycle, and don't ask a Republican to admit a mistake or acknowledge the calamity that their policies cause. They just can't do it.
Dang it ! Now I feel challenged to teach a walking catfish to ride a trike! Then a bike and eventually a Norton. So if you see a strange looking biker doing 120MPH while wagging his tail...
Dating yourself there, Paul. Do you think anybody here except you and me remembers the Norton Manx or the Commando?
But...er...wasn't Mitt just spouting this last week about his "vision" for the country? Apparently that "vision" is nothing more than a peek through the Bush family portrait album...
When mitt was at his florida primary , he proclaimed with a straight face that obama had failed to help mortgage defaults in the state , because he had not given the 1% of people like him enough tax breaks , which would supposedly help these home owners :/ ....Now he has to convince a majority of americans of that , good luck mitt ...
If americans are stupid enough to buy that again , I will be done voting nationally
Yes by all means go back to Bush the destroyer's policies. We in the middle and poorer classes want our wages to keep flat lining while the wealthy reap the rewards. The "Lyin" Ryan budget will assure us of that. That by the way is the budget that Romney "loves".One thing I dont understand is when Romney speaks at a rally I see lots of seniors and what probably are a bunch of middle class people smiling and clapping when he talks of all the cuts he will make. Are they so dumb that they would clap for their own destruction?Answer: YES their republicans are'nt they.
All white, too, as far as I see...
Not only that joca , but he constantly claims he is for the working people at these rallies , and gop working families buy into it completely , some how they do not connect the dots of the bush years economic destruction , and the republican party / lopw wages etc ...How they manage that is beyond me....Basically , ALL DEMOCRATS ARE BAD , period ....
Patango, "gop working families" is an oxymoron.
A co-worker once told me this definition of democrats and republicans: If the government tells you how much you pay in taxes (ie. payroll) you are a democrat. If you tell the government how much you pay in taxes (ie investment, big business) you are a republican. Pretty simple.
Most "gop working families" claim to be "gop" because they think they pay too much in taxes. They don't account for everything those taxes do, especially for them - roads, schools, fire and police depts, etc., etc.
If you want another war used as a diversion as they stamp out abortion rights, planned parenting, voting rights, affirmative action, unions, public education,SSI,medicare/medicaid and appoint another far right republican loyalist to the Supreme Court-then by all means vote for these nuts.
As to Bush, history has proved him a liar and a fool yet he did at times demonstrate a touch of humanity that of course ired the GOP.
"humanity" When?
I was trying to be nice but you spoiled it by asking for proof!
Well, you did say "a touch" which leaves no lasting evidence.
The regurgitation of the same failed policies that were overwhelmingly rejected in 2008 aren't about to excite anyone in 2012. But rather than adapt their policies to a changing world, republicans are convinced that all they need is a new frontman and a new marketing slogan to make the sale.
All this make do is work harder to get Pres. Obama re-elect... Report this to Attack Watch or American Bridge... Obama/Biden 2012 all the way!!!!!
What does conservative really mean these days? Because the example being set by conservative leadership, conservative people of name and face recognition, and conservative national voices are in total antithesis to the halcyon narrative of the conservative platform. These people are morally bankrupting the reputation of those worthy conservatives of a generation before them and leaving nothing but strip mined ideals and falsified ethics for the generation coming up. And they're fine with Bush policies because what he did benefited them. A very narrow vision and no long view at all except to get to the next Republican president.
During the entire 8 years of Bush administration the majority of Americans were outraged. But the last two years we had reached the point of (best described as) outrage fatigue. When we elected President Obama a sigh of relief was heard around the world. But that did not last long. The Republicans have been on the forefront everyday telling us we need to be outraged over one thing or another -- nevermind the fact they conjured those crises out of thin air.
After 3 years of their faux outrage not to mention their outrageous behaviour & egregious legislation we have a good idea of what the Republicans are capable of. But that is just a prelude of what is to come if Mitt Romney, along with his Party, god forbid take control of this country. The Bush era will look like a cakewalk in comparison thereof.
Actually, with Romeny's rubber glue campaign in full effect, it's only a matter of time before we get ads that say "If you liked George W. Bush, you'll love President Barack Obama." Then Democrats won't be able to use that attack on Romney, and Romney's campaign will get tons of free air time as every Fox News shows it and asks their stable of talking heads how valid it is, while of course never saying Bush was a bad man but Obama takes the few teeny tiny bad things about the Bush Administraiton and pumps them full of Chicago style steroids.
So it's Bush updated?
Hello next decade long war in Syria and Iran.
How will a Romney administration be different from the Bush administration? A 'new and improved' sticker.
Scratch and sniff!
If Romney had a smell....it'd smell like Hollywood:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/barackobama/9169275/Dmitry-Medvedev-says-Mitt-Romney-comment-smelled-of-Hollywood.html
Now you've done it. You've made me remember Leisure Suit Larry 7's CyberSniff 2000: a scratch-n-sniff card with, I think, six different odors. At various points in the game, a flashing icon would appear to let you know which odor you needed to sniff. I think one was meant to be the smell of @!$%#.
Yikes, up to this moment I had been able to suppress the memories of LSL !!
The failed Bush policies are the focal point for the Occupy movement. If Occupy regroups and media coverage begins again, it will drown out the staged political conventions. It will also dramatically shift politics on a local as well as a national level because Occupy is everywhere. Europe is already seeing demonstrations and there are more to come if more austerity measures are adopted which appears to be very likely. Occupy spread from the US to other countries, but that does not mean it cannot happen in reverse. This should be a warning sign to our political leaders, particularly the Republicans who are proposing austerity measures in this country.
If Mitt Romney wants to run in 2012 as a rebooted (sorry about that!) GWB, let him. His loss will be the country's gain.
Boy, will it be the country's gain!
