With all of Romney's faults during his business and "public" service years and you bring up a cruel and stupid act from his High School days?
There's a reason why juvenile crime isn't given the weight of adult crimes. I have many friends that made horrible and stupid choices in their teens and all of them I'd prefer over any of the last 5 presidents.
This type of reportage continuously undercuts the progressive movement time and time again.
I'm having a hard time understanding how an uber intelligent woman like Rachel can write an eloquent book like Drift and totally wander into left field on this story.
Totally bollocks. This old incident underscores Romney's sociopathy, his inability to feel empathy for other living beings. There is continuity between this adolescent incident and the treatment of the dog, and his callous attitude toward American workers during his time at Bain. And it ties in to current events relating to LGBT rights. It helps us understand who Romney is, because a person's character is largely formed by late adolescence.
If you have a substantive criticism of this story, make it and abandon your absurd ad hominem.
Usually by the time you are 5 your personality is molded. I never hurt anyone in my entire life. I'll take that back I punched a girl in the stomach because she stole my very best friend in the world. I was not a bully but, I was bullied a lot. Romney was a bully and he does indicate that he still may be a bully. Just by his methods of foreign policy that he would use scare the hell out of me as they should anyone. Is he proposing holding America down and cutting our hair which is something Bush tried to do maybe he wants to finish the job and give us a #1 shaving. Yeah, that's the ticket Now, opening up "Romney's Barber shop" more like the Barber of Seville.
Are we to assume that such sick behavior id just part of growing up privileged and seeing yourself as "special"?.
It might be insignificant IF there was any indication that he has changed but no, he still sees himself as "special" and others as lower class serfs.
Is it just me, or does Romney's pledge seem to protect hate speech, including youth school bullying, as long as the subject of the bullying is being targeted for their sexuality?
It's not just you. This is a thing now in right-wing politics. For example, Kansas and Colorado, just two recent examples.
If someone is afraid they usually attack or run. They are attacking because they are afraid. Homosexuals are not scarry they are wonderful human beings just like most of us. If they prefer heterosexual relations that's fine but, they are not God and they should not tell anyone else how to live. Live and let live or die whichever your prefer. I don't remember reading about homosexuality being mentioned in the ten commandments.

Forty-eight years later I do not remember and I apologize. Really profound. I guess that's all it takes "kiss the bobo" and it's all better. This is what a bully grows up to look like. It started with stepping on "not like me" people and today we see the results. I remember when the wife was talked about. She was a mother working from home raising 5 boys and the world should feel for her because she battled breast cancer and she has MS. But what about the blind teacher; what about the boy Romney cut his hair; what about the boy he called "atta girl". Where are the feelings for those people? At that time it was called high school pranks but in 2012 it is called bullying. So we see what a bully grows up to look like. A professional bully and stepping on "not like me" people. And he wants to be president so he can continue his stepping on "not like me" people.
Sometimes I get impatient waiting for the rest of the world to catch up. Having a sense of humor helps. I am saving water and electricity, I am collecting seeds, I collected some great seeds at the Grand Canyon which is the number 7 Wonder of the world. It was my first time there. It just amazed me that I may have slept in the same room as my nemesis Marilyn Monroe or Teddy Roosevelt. I prefer Norma Jeanne. I now totally believe that The Grand Canyon is the brains of the operation or the Earth's brain and it is open for everyone to see. All the memories it holds and it will remain for another 6 million years. Which is how long we have to get it right and start taking care of God's gift to us The Earth. Let's start now. No more drilling and no more glutteny. Let's work together this land of ours is truly beautiful and it has sustained us let's sustain it.
Rachel, has proven very helpful to me especially when I have insomnia or have woken up too early. I just hope I'm not boring people. Her book is fantastic, a little scarry but, nonetheless informative. It reminds me of a song "McCarthurs Park" Someone left the cake out in the rain, I don't think that I can take it because it took so long to bake it and we'll never have that recipe again. Oh, No.....I think it is referring to current times as well. We have all the ingredients in place for World Peace. and we may never have this recipe again. We need to pursue this and it starts with each of us individually. I am healing my body, I am opening my heart and my mind. We need to stop fighting amongst each other and form the common cause of Peace and Love. What's so funny about, Peace, love and understanding? If you feed the hungry they will not attack you. If you cure the illness it will not attack you. Love conquers fear it always has and it always will. I am the alpha and the omega. I am one of Shakespeare's many actors and I will wait patiently for the rest of the cast to appear on the stage alongside me. Until then go in peace.

Columnist Thomas Sowell today said the occupy movement with the knowing unwillingness of authorities(because occupy is a media darling) to prosecute them are making a shambles of the 14th amendment requirement that the govt. provide equal protection of the laws "to all of its citizens". So very GOP, to ignore what they are doing to women's rights as well as LGBT rights. Then of course the disadvantaged are ignored as well in deserving equal protection.
i know what to do...a few people who support LGBT should join together and form a new religion which thinks homosexuality is the way forward. Then all discrimination will have to stop because that would interfere with the religious freedom of the group :D isnt that a genius idea?
