Today's edition of quick hits:
* The United States launched airstrikes in Yemen yesterday "that killed as many as seven militants, the second American missile attack in the country since the CIA and other spy agencies disrupted an al-Qaeda airline bomb plot."
* Afghan officials are reporting that their own military commanders have "refused more than a dozen times within the past two months to act on U.S. intelligence regarding high-level insurgents," fearing civilian casualties.
* U.S. consumer confidence has risen to its highest level in more than four years, exceeding forecasts.
* It's a good thing we didn't let Detroit go bankrupt: "U.S. auto sales are on pace for the best showing since 2007 and a third straight year of at least 10 percent gains, only the fourth such streak since the Great Depression, as more-confident buyers return to showrooms."
* North Carolina Gov. Beverly Perdue (D) responded to the state passing the anti-gay Amendment One measure by saying, "We look like Mississippi."
* Nancy Keenan, the president of Naral Pro-Choice America, will step down at the end of the year "to make room for a new, younger leader." Update: Kennan will be talking with Rachel tonight on the air, so be sure to tune in.
* A sharp piece this morning from Greg Sargent on the importance of the "amnesia strategy" in 2012.
* This is not at all a good time to end unemployment insurance.
* And I have a hunch MSNBC's Tamron Hall won't want to chat with Tim Carney anytime soon after this interesting exchange earlier today.
Anything to add? Consider this an open thread.

It was Bush, the compassionate-conservative Republican, who gave Social Security recipients Medicare-Part-D Prescription Coverage, it was Northquists group of corporations and Republican leaders who 'said' there would not be any taxes, or any premiums raised to pay for it, or to pay the debt from it now.
It was President Obama, and the Democratic leaders Affordable Care Act, that said that starting in 2011, drug manufacturers have to give the governments Medicare Part-D fund for recipients a 50% discount on brand-name drugs. It is the Republican House who want to repeal that and never raise taxes to pay for anything new or old in Medicare or Social Security.
Yeah Frank, it's like the GOP is for corporations and not people or something.
It's like they want to cut taxes for wealthy and cut Social Security and Medicare for the less fortunate.
It's like the GOP want to outsource jobs to the lowest labor and make money of the taxpayers. Corporate Subsidies, lobbying is the second career after term over. Yeah, Delay said the Saipan "petri dish" was a great (as well as golfing in Scotland) example of capitalism. Cut those Unions out and think how we'd profit!
Not meant to be mean, but bring home the points and turn up volume.
While everyone is mad at Obama (Congress, too) for cutting costs of premiums, plus adding the child up to age 26, no more prexisting condition denials, spending money (stimulus to keep economy from total belly up), worrying about debt, the GOP work to destroy the things that make lives better for the have less, so they can help the haves. Then the audacity to call Democrats out for class warfare, when a huge number of people support raising taxes on the upper incomes (that have received cuts for years, but jobs still went away).
Oh whow... BSnbc, I would have asked ms hall, which one of your 10 bullsh*t questions do you want me to answer first?
Is everyone @ BSnbc as hateful as Rev. NOTsosharpton?
Let me guess!! Another "redstate" crossover? Did you have a point or did you just want to insult someone?
The problem with conservatives is that when they hear the word marriage they think " love ". When they hear the words gay marriage they think " sex ".
