New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and Newark Mayor Cory Booker have made a parody video. From the New Jersey press:
The three-and-a-half minute video unveiled Tuesday night at the New Jersey Legislative Correspondents Club dinner shows the Republican governor being thwarted at do-gooding by Booker. The mayor fixes the governor's flat tire, catches a falling baby and backs up Bruce Springsteen after the music star loses a guitar, each time telling Christie, "I got this!"
Not to take the fun out, but when we watched this at my house, our reaction went from Hey, that governor who snarls at town halls and wants the majority to vote on our rights seems so likeable to something more along the lines of Wow, he knows exactly what he's doing.

Huh. Two things:
1) Self-awareness helps even the most loathsome douchebags seem human.
2) WTF, Booker? Why are you helping Christie?
Yeah I wanted to know the same thing!!!
If Christie becomes Veep, who becomes Gov.? If Christie runs for VP and loses, who's there to take on a wounded governor? And if Christie rightly stays off the ticket, it doesn't hurt to be the #2 politician in the state, ready to move up to Senator or even Gov. when things get weird (which they always do in NJ).
I really can't picture Christie running for anything? Now, flying in a Batcopter that's funny. He's just trying to seek some of the limelight.
With all the doubts people seem to have about Romney (both on our side and in his own party), I'm amazed at how much effort people seem to be putting into auditioning for the VP gig. Remember Paul Ryan's recent insistence that he was never an Ayn Rand fanboy and his real political hero is Thomas Aquinas? This is more of the same.
That recent Politico story about the VP selection process (the one that said Romney is looking for an "incredibly boring white guy") told us that Christie "is said by insiders to want it the most and also to annoy some aides with his aggressiveness." This tape suggests that he's acutely aware of the latter, and that the former is 100% accurate.
Mayor Booker is the most qualified to be Governor in New Jersey and to be the next Democratic President in the US in 2016. This Christie's ad actually shows who really do the job in New Jersey ... not him. This is not about collaboration, this is about who have things done!!!. Newark was the capital of crime and now, thanks to Booker, they have zero crime at the top of the nation and Newark is coming back on jobs and social services.
Zero crime? Wow, I need to move there.
It's very cute, but what's not cute is Christie's record on education, gay rights and a plethora of other important issues. I actually think Booker should run against him in the next election.
I'm all for politicians having a little fun when it's not at the expense of the taxpayers (and by "expense" I'm not referring to money, I'm referring to the perversion of the process.)
But I just wasn't feeling this video. I don't find Christie funny. I find him a hard-hearted bully who shouldn't be in public office.
Here in the Upper Midwest, Christie is enough outside our radar that it wasn't hard for me to like this video (because it IS good). Now, if you folkse like marceline want to see a well done funny vid. by a Republican governer, maybe Pawlenty could make one. My daughter, when she was young and didn't really know who he was, found herself on an international flight with him and walked away from that thinking he was funny and personable.
Funny how these things work.
Why was this made? What's in it for Booker?
You know what would've been funnier? Christie looking under the sofa for WMDs.
I think it works for both gentlemen, and is in keeping with the Everyday Guy image that many past governors have tried to develop. This is the next level of "New Jersey and You: Perfect Together." No one seems to remember Governor Cahill's car being stolen at the diner on Route 1 . . .
I worked as a waitress there. Pepsi, Pepsi, cheeseburger, cheeseburger.
Hey, I think this is good clean fun and shouldn't be an opportunity for criticism. Those of you who are worked up about this need to get a life. I have my own political opinions of both of these guys, but I am impressed by both for doing this. We don't always need to be at war, and doing so only cheapens the political process.
Should we also be so quick to forgive Bush? Should we laugh it off as if he made only 1 mere mistake. Who else should we break bread with. I am very forgiving but, I have also been bitten more than once. If Chris Christie has changed and is a new man his next step might be a huge apology to the state of N.J. They are still paying for a Parkway that was finished being built a very, very long time ago. The people of that State pay an ungodly amount of Property taxes. So much so that alot of people have moved out of that state. I will sit back and wait for other signs that this man is genuine. He might just be priming himself for VP. Expecting us to think he is a changed man. Is he flirting with the idea and at the same time waving his Governorship around taunting Booker.Someday Booker this may all be yours. "What, the curtains?"
We can't stop the Supreme Courts ruling. But we can do this!

chris is a bully like the rest of the republicans!! Booker why are you playing around with him? He does not like you, matter of fat if you are not a anti-women, anti-middle and poor working person among other things, he does not like you...so why?
Slightly off topic, but funny...I usually skip videos because I am deaf and they are rarely captioned (special thanks to Steve for all the times he says, "for those who can't play videos at work" because I always add, "and for deaf people.") This video is not captioned, but they have added a CC option to use voice recognition software. The problem is that the software is very rudimentary and really doesn't work worth diddly-squat. I have yet to watch a video captioned this way where the words made any sense at all. Most of the words it "recognized" in this one were really strange and garbled, but that just made it even funnier. About halfway through, the phrase, "butter barrel of blacks to help the folks in florida" comes up. I have no idea what was really said. A lot of the rest was just as funny. If anyone wants to try watching it that way, click on the CC then choose "transcribe audio" and then "OK." It adds a little je ne sais quoi.
While I can't pretend to know why Mayor Booker agreed to make this video -- I imagine that the two men have a cordial, if not friendly, professional relationship given their respective jobs -- I have to say that, after watching this, I'm finding HIM even more endearing than Chris Christie. I'm liking Cory Booker (and his brand) even *more* than I already had...
In NJ, no one political party is all evil and the other all innocent. NJ is beset by machines and entrenched interests on both sides. Previously lived in Camden County which is totally controlled by the corrupt regime of the Norcross brothers and the county Democratic party. Today I live in Burlington County which is right next door and controlled by equal corrupt Republican regime.
NJ is the perfect example of "Power Corrupts..."
