"The Ricketts Plan" to use Jeremiah Wright to smear President Obama has come and gone rather quickly, but the story isn't quite over for Mitt Romney.
To the campaign's credit, the presumptive Republican nominee repudiated the line of attack fairly quickly this morning, suggesting Romney and his team want nothing to do with Wright-based attacks, which most fair-minded people seem to agree are out of bounds. The problem, however, is that Romney already went after the president by referencing his former pastor, back in February.
Repudiating the "Ricketts Plan" was appropriate, but does Romney also repudiate his own rhetoric? The subject came up this afternoon, and the former governor had a doozy of a response.
Asked about the comments he made in February to Fox's Sean Hannity, Romney said today, "I, I'm actually gonna, I, I'm not familiar with precisely what I said, but I stand by what I said -- whatever it was."
As Ari Melber explained, the quote is "devastating because it captures his core weakness." Romney's willing to say anything, "even if he can't remember what it was."
The bottom line remains the same: either Romney repudiates using Wright or "stands by" using Wright in February. The latter seems to contradict the former.

Seemingly cognitive dissonance is part of Mitt Romney's inherent intellectual ability!
All Americans of middle class and working class standing who cast votes for Mitt Romney in November of 2012 are fools - plain and simple! If Romney is elected in November, many of us will be turning our heads and asking Mr. T's question of our fellow Americans -
Who da Fool Fool! -Kevo
Get used to this kind of answer from Mitt, if you're not used to it already. If it's inconvenient, or difficult to explain -- like his prep school bullying, or his record as governor, or his actions at Bain -- he won't remember. And then he'll giggle.
Actually, Mitt Romney did not repudiate the Rev. Wright attacks this morning. This morning when Mitt Romney was first asked about it, he pretended like he didn't know what the reporter was talking about. He said he had not read the papers yet, or something. Then shortly after that, a spokesperson for the Romney campaign said the campaign was against using the attacks. So, in reality, Mitt Romney waited pretty much all day to refudiate the attacks HIMSELF. Coward.
As my grandfather would have saıd, "What a schmegeggy!"
May 17th 1954, In a major civil rights victory, the U.S. Supreme Court hands down an unanimous decision in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, ruling that racial segregation in public educational facilities is unconstitutional.
May 17th 2012, many republicans need to be reminded to mark this date and this landmark decision as it appears to many they have forgotten.
his bumper sticker covers it all:
Romney 2012- "I'm running for President, for Pete's sake!"
It is shocking that Republicans and the conservative super-PAC elite would feel so desperate and so anxious about Mitt Romney's chances at beating Barack Obama that they thought it necessary to unleash these sleazy and exaggerated attacks so early in the game. This is the kind of garbage to pull when the race is turning against you and there is nothing else to run on. But maybe that is the point. Romney and the GOP don't have anything to run on. Their agenda is to bring us back to the disastrous Bush era, and reward the super-rich. http://www.sunstateactivist.org
"I'm not concerned about the very poor."
Now THERE's a quote I'll bet Mitt stands by.
Jed Clampett said his daddy told him that if you always tell the truth you'll never have to remember what you said. Someone told Mitt to lie like a motherf*cker.
I'd be more impressed had he "refudiated" the line of attack! Ha. More fun anyway.
I have to say, I am as big a critic of R-money as most, but how often are we asked about some event or statement from months ago, and do we always recall exactly? At least he did not say whatever was convenient. He seemed to be willing to stand by whatever he said. This time.
Now wait five minutes, it might change.
Mitt has a truer response available. "If I did not think it up, how can I be expected to remember it?'
"Whatever it is, I'm against it! Or, for it! Which was it you preferred again?"
- Willard "Reversible Mittens" Raw-Money
(possibly true quote. or maybe not.)
Really! The Obama campaign is going all the way back to February to dig up dirt on Romney? Why I've never heard of such a thing. What a cheap underhanded trick. Does Pres.Obama have no shame? Why Romney should go all the way back to the President's birth to dig up bones. But seriously, how could we have a Pres.that ca'nt even remember what he said 2 1/2 months ago.How would that go over when negotiating with another country? Let's see what did I tell Russia or what did I tell China. No doubt about it the man is dangerous.
If that one statement doesn't say it all. Yes, we know, you have people telling you what to say, where. But Mitt, you successfully were able to stifle your laugh while you said it (oops, no you didn't). Just what we need, someone speaking to world leaders while snickering again. Maybe he would refrain from massaging their shoulders? Great reason to doom the working people further with the policies of tax cuts bring revenue and solve economy.
Uh, duh..I, um...what I mean is, derrrrrrrrr...Obama, um, darn it to heck....
Yeah, this boob is gonna be president. I can't wait for President Obama to make Mormon mincemeat out of this absurdly ill-equipped person.
I'm flabbergasted.
Great Porky the pig imitation Mitt. Badee badee-that's all folks.
Novenber hurry.
Everyone is missing the real back story here. This weekend is the city series between the White Sox and the Cubs played at Wrigley Field. The Rickets "family"owns the Cubs. The team was quick to state that Joe Rickets is not part of the ownership. They envisioned Armageddon: NATO protesters joining with enraged Sox fans (the President is a south sider and Sox fan) in a rambunctious protest at Wrigley with pro Obama Cubs fans refusing to spend money at the park and the Sox fans swelling the crowd waving picket signs that even WGN cameras could not ignore!
Good job consumers, the political participation of commerce may be a bad idea from their view. That's why they like to be anonymous instead of transparent. Government is not supposed to be hidden.
