Early Mormonism had a range of policies and doctrines relating to race in regard to black people of African descent. References to black people, their social condition during the 19th century, and their spiritual place in Western Christianity as well as Mormon scriptures were complicated, with varying degrees and forms of discrimination against black people.
When the Mormons migrated to Missouri they encountered the pro-slavery sentiments of their neighbors. Joseph Smith, Jr. upheld the laws regarding slaves and slaveholders, but remained abolitionist in his actions and doctrines.
Following the death of Joseph Smith, Jr., Mormon leaders beginning with Brigham Young instituted a policy of excluding most people of black African descent (regardless of actual skin color) from Priesthood ordination and from participation in temple ceremonies. These practices continued in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) until the 1978 Revelation on Priesthood, which was canonized as Official Declaration—2....I mean really a RICH MORMAN for president give me a break! What I found a bit strange in the video about Mary Romney's son is that Mitt Romney referred to him as exactly that, Mary Romney's son. I don't know, so I am asking, is it not his grandson. He said "her son," not their son nor his grandson, but "her son." Is that true? I am asking because I don't know.

If a gaffe falls in the forest and noone pays any attention, does it even qualify as a gaffe? Or will it forever exist merely as potential? Just wondering.

in his actions and sayings obama is not a christian. he has trashed the bible just as he has trashed the constitution. he has challenged the catholic church, he has challenged the congress and the supreme court.

if obama is re-elected you can count on a massive tax plan starting jan. 1st. ths includes 401 k accounts , savings accounts, even cking accounts. not only the rich will be taxed but everyone will feel the bite.

Well....one thing I know for a fact....my 401K went in a tank when Bush was in the office, and it is now pretty much back to the value it is supposed to be. I don't know where you get your information (probably from the NRA who keeps screaming President Obama will take away your gun despite the fact he has not and has given no indication to do so) but President Obama has said over and over again that the tax policy he wants to implement will not affect regular savings account (which make sense...how much do any of us earn from the 0.01% interest in our $500 saving account anyway).

more government controls are going to be put in place so business and corporations will be so swamped with regulations that they will give up or move to other countries in the meantime how many more trillions does it take to sponsor green energy that is clearly ten years from being economical.

The goal of a Corporation (including Private Equity Firm like the one Romney based his "Job Creation" experience from) is NOT TO HIRE PEOPLE. Their goal is to make money (the more the better) and they make more money by: 1. Get more demand (hence spending marketing dollar) and 2. Less operating cost which means the less employee the better or the less you can pay your employee the better (and this is why they move manufacturing jobs in case you don't get it....it has nothing to do with the BS they told you).

When you run a business, if you get a tax decrease from the government, your first instinct is never to hire more people. Unless the demand for your offering goes up, those money will just be an extra money in your pocket. In every company I deal with when there is extra money in your pocket, the first department it goes to is MARKETING, not human resources.

The same thing happen with regulation. Regulation never hinder a Corporation from operating anywhere. GOOGLE China is the proof for this. KFC and McDonald fight their way to country such as Indonesia and China who for the longest time won't allow them to get in. As long as the market is there and the profit outweigh the cost of dealing with the regulations, corporation WILL fight to be there.

The problem with Romney's and the Republican idea in general is: They are just providing the second part of the equation: Cost cutting for the company. None of those idea actually promote anything that will provide the first and more important part which is DEMAND for the goods and services those company provided. HENCE what will happen is: Some people on top will end up with extra money in their pocket, but there is nowhere to market as the people in this country cannot afford to spend which makes demand disappear. The corporation will then use the marketing dollar outside of the country where market still exists.

That's why Henry Ford wants to provide more for his employee (paying his employee up to twice the industry standard at the time) so that they CAN BUY the cars they build and buys other things hence create more demand for other industry that makes their employment grows and hence even more CAN BUY the cars they produce.

THAT is the reason the Obama policy makes more sense....because it tries to build the ability for more people in this country to create those demands for goods and services. Infrastructure job will not only build up this country, it'll provide work for construction worker, which then will be able to spend money be it in groceries, buying new cars, or put their kids in child care, which in turn bring those industry back as well...and the chain continue.

It takes a whole lot faster for things to grow from the bottom up then for it to "trickle down".

The runaway spenders of the modern era have all be Republicans so far. Electing Romney with his tax cuts for the wealthy strategy would continue this trend and plunge us deeper into debt without any stimulus jobs to show for the effort. Every middle class or retired person who votes for the Republican agenda is voting against their long term self interests.

Regarding the Coast Guard tall ship Eagle. It wasn't stolen. In WWII Congress granted its last Letter of Marque and Reprisal (by the power granted in the Constitution Article 1 Section 8 Clause 11) to the Coast Guard. A Letter of Marque (for short) authorizes a vessel to seize the vessel and property of the enemy without impunity. So the Eagle was legally confiscated. It's not stolen goods its booty matey! Arrrgh!
