My question for the day: When is Obama going to attack Reaganism? He's come close, but the real issue in the campaign is whether Reagan's prescription for the economy, less government and lower taxes on the rich, is a cure or disease. That's Romney's policy, and Obama needs to attack it as a philosophy both for his own sake, and that of other Democrats running this year. Reagan was a tired old man who was under the control of his rich benefactors. Under him the tax burden began to shift from the wealthy to the middle class, and he reversed much of Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty, which was doing a creditable job of lifting people out of poverty with work and training.
The Tea Party and the GOP in general seems to think during much of the history of the US the government was small and people relied on themselves. Turns out that only happened during a 35 year or so hiatus during the Gilded Age of the late 19th Century and that before that the government had quite a few programs and benefits, especially for poor and disabled veterans. The return they want to the 19th century will surely make them a lot richer, but exactly who do they expect to buy their products when everyone else is getting "streamlined" pay?

After reading the clips from this article I had to really wander what Country am I living in? Even if you don't neccessarily believe in any of the teachings of the bible, to provoke prejudism and hate in any form should be against the law. To see Churches all over our great nation do this is abominable. When did the people of The United States start rallying around hate crimes. When did we start marching and protesting against people? People who have commited no crimes. People who are our brothers and sisters when did America decide to hate them? And how in Gods' name are we allowing this behavior to determine legislature. Where is my beautiful Country, where is my beautiful land?
The broader point to me is: when are these churches that are blatently participating in partisan political activities going to lose their tax exempt status? Many churches seem to have morphed into a wing of the GOP, but they still get away with paying no taxes.
Newt's favorite animals are weasels, rats, snakes, chameleons, vultures, hyenas, sponges and other invertabrates and vampire bats. He said it reminded him of his time in the House of Representatives.
Right on, but I think some of these animals take great offense at being spoken about in the same sentence as Newt. While people are leaving The Catholic Church in droves Newt decided to join. The man is a day late and a dollar short, and him and his GOP buddies have missed the train and are now living in the 19th century.
I always find it interesting that the representatives of a religion that prides itself on "a loving god, inclusion and do unto others as you would have them do unto you" spend so much time preaching intolerance, hate and, in this case, the eventual murder of people who refuse to conform to their belief system.
All of the good work, charity and brotherly love in the world is immediately made worthless when the old, primarily white, men who appoint themselves as the 'leaders' of their community take their position and use it to preach hate, intolerance and the fascist repression of any idea's they don't agree with.
They might as well have the decency to re-label themselves "The Church of Hate" and sever all attempts at association with Jesus Christ, whose opinions they evidently have no time for...
They are relying on their major contributors much like the GOP are. They can only stay in business if they adopt the same philosophy their donors have. They have decided to dump God for a new god "money". Sure they hold hands and recite prayers and even wish their neighbors peace but, before they can sit down they are passing around the collection bowl. Before you know it they are tearing down Historic buildings and putting up 15 million dollar churches so the preachers can preach in style. The churchgoers now have another new god in which to worship, a 15 million dollar slab of cement. And their new god forbids you to enter this new church. You have been excommunicated because you are with child and you don't know who the father is. Even if you claim to be a Virgin they will throw you out in the street forcing you to have a baby all by yourself. Sound familiar. They do want your baby though, so they can sell it.

Sometimes (like when I see stories like some of these, or comments like Reginald's above) it's not easy, but I try to remember that not all Christians are like these ignorant charlatans.
One of the smartest, best-educated and kindest individuals I've ever known was a Jesuit priest in Texas <G>. One who also had enough integrity that, when he met and fell in love with a woman, he left the priesthood to marry her, though he never abandoned his religious faith (which I, as a eupraxsophist, personally have never shared) or his commitment to social justice (which I like to think I do share).
Over-broad generalizations are rarely fair (except about Rape-Public-Cons, because anyone who can still support those nihilistic know-nothing knuckleheads obviously has to have some "loose wires" flapping around in their noggins).
Chris Mathews' interview with Newt Gingrich was one of the most entertaining interactions I have seen in a long time! Chris was able to make Newt seem tame like a fuzzy Teddy bear but at the same time he also brought up a lot of the ridiculous comments and beliefs of Mr. Gingrich's party. I'm wondering if TRMS is aware there are massive protests going on across Quebec, throughout Europe and even in the streets of Chicago. You'd never know anything like that was happening if you only watched MSNBC, CNN, FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC or even Current. Thankfully the Guardian still practices journalism, and the Russians are always looking for stories to make the American Media look bought and paid for by the power elite.

I have been writing blog posting on the War on Women. When I saw the May 25th show I had to include it in my posting to demonstrate how the marginalization of women has been devolving since Roe v Wade (see link here -- http://thestewartconsortium.blogspot.com/2012/05/war-on-women-part-two.html)
I cannot tell how frustrated I am that women on the right fail to see how their rights are being reduced. My hope is that they begin to realize that their civil liberties are being threaten and they wake up soon.
