As a rule, I tend to ignore the political opinions of reality-show personality Donald Trump, but there is a certain electoral salience that underscores nonsense like this.
"A book publisher came out three days ago and said that in his written synopsis of his book," Trump went on, "he said he was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia. His mother never spent a day in the hospital."
Actually, Obama's literary agency at the time, two decades ago, published a recently discovered catalogue of clients and their projects that included erroneous information about Obama and a prospective book about race that he ended up not writing. An agency assistant back then, Miriam Goderich, said last week that she was mistaken when she wrote that Obama was born in Kenya.
But Trump isn't buying it. "That's what he told the literary agent," Trump insisted. "That's the way life works.... He didn't know he was running for president, so he told the truth. The literary agent wrote down what he said.... He said he was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia.... Now they're saying it was a mistake.... Give me a break."
I suspect most fair-minded people would consider Trump's comments idiotic. So, why should anyone care? Because Trump is an official surrogate and fundraiser for Mitt Romney's presidential campaign. During the Republican primaries, Romney even had Trump record robocalls for his campaign, and next week, the two will appear together in Las Vegas.
As Greg Sargent noted today, when Hilary Rosen noted Ann Romney may not be qualified to serve as her husband's economic advisor, it was national news for weeks, despite the fact that Rosen (a) was correct, (b) had no formal role whatsoever in President Obama's campaign; and (c) was immediately denounced by high-profile members of the Obama team.
And yet, here's Trump, spewing obvious garbage, which won't diminish his role on Team Romney and won't stop the Republican candidate from fundraising with Trump.

Well, I don't think I could stomach dinner with Donald. I mean, you'd almost have to look up from your plate once in a while. Manners would compel you to do that. Then I'd see that chinchilla on his head and spray food all over him from laughing. Coffee spraying out my nose........no......I'll pass.
They are copy catters they are doing what President Obama has been doing for a few months now. Selling raffle tickets for $3. I would be excited to dine with our President. On the other hand, dining with riff-raff Romney and friends, would give me diarhea. And if I found a hair in my pizza I would throw up.

Perhaps we should give Alaska back to it's rightful owners along with Hawaii. Israel (Jacob) was the name of one of Adams decendants. So, there was a portion of land given to him which they called Israel. I would have to get a better map but, Jerusaleum was actually part of Philistia not Israel. That is how it was first divided in 1420 B.C. Who owns what now, I couldn't tell you. But, it was originally owned by the same family. Some family feud huh?
It's hard to take Trump seriously about anything at all. What's really difficult is to know when he's making crap up and when he honestly believes one of his crazy assertions.
Trump is only there to promote himself and his TEEVEE show . If he talked sensibly no one would notice ...got him a spot on the MaddowBlog didn't it?

Nextmsnbcstar,I believe it is time for your debut. I agree, I know that some people take these shows for their entertainment value, It would make for more interesting viewing if they could get a lot tougher and ask the questions that absolutely need to be answered. Why is everyone pussy-footing around. If they wait too long people are going to give up. As bloggers we're saying it like it is most of the time, they need to get a back bone and do the same. They gotta know that we got their back and there are enough people that want the truth told and demand that the lieing stop. We should reject all forms of lieing. We should not accept a word that is said unless it is the absolute truth, if Romney can't do that then he needs to go away. Americans should not for one second tolerate a liar.

Romney could murder a person in cold blood in front of witnesses and I swear the public would just shrug it off. "Oh, the person had it coming," or "Romney was just standing his ground." Nothing sticks to him.
The number of voters who actually believe the birther conspiracy nonsense is miniscule. And trying to disprove conspiracy theories is an impossible task, because the adherents just turn your proof into another layer of conspiracy.
What birtherism really is, is just a cover for racism. They call him foreign, Kenyan, Muslim, socialist, communist--whatever. If you prove he's not one, they switch their argument to another label. The truth is they don't like him because he's not like them. The reason is racism, the rest is just rationalization.
The proof in 2008 was WV. A very democratic state, but a racist population, that gave more votes to Hillary Clinton than to McCain.
So please. Don't give the birthers any air time. Don't bother arguing with them. It only confers legitimacy onto them and their arguments. You aren't going to change their mind and certainly not their vote.
Before this election I really had no clue how ignorant some of these men are. Any issue or concern that they have and draw attention to turns out to be the most, boring, stupidous thing I ever heard of in all my years of watching politics. Is it me or has the whole population of the GOP gotten progressively worst as far as intellegience is concerned. There must be something terribly wrong with our school system ,at least the schools that the GOP attended. I started watching Meet The Press when I was 10 years old and now when I watch the news to me it is like watching "Dallas" or "Dynasty". I'd rather watch Sesame St. you learn a lot more.

I know it is BS that Obama was born in Kenya, but, how does that kind of mistake get made? Did he say his father was born in Kenya and she mistook him for saying he was born in Kenya? How does Miriam Goderich explain her mistake and what is she doing, now? This gets more bizarre every moment. I also agree with SOV and the COM/Corporate Owned Media meme. How many times have I asked that Rachel challenge her bosses at NBC on their failure to pursue the lies and misstatements of politicians, whatever their affiliations? She has Andrea Mitchell on and doesn't ask her about her husband, Alan Greenspan, and what he really knows about the FED and Wall St.
I appreciate Rachel, but feel she is still a wholly-owned subsidiary of NBC.

Trump's birther comments are much worse than idiotic. They are racist. What I find particularly insidious is what drives him to keep repeating these lies. Everyone should know by now. It's really simple – he's a media whore who will do anything to keep the spotlight on himself. Trump willingly encourages the birther crazies and couldn't care less about the consequences. Some people laugh him off because he's "The Donald". There is nothing funny about this man and his lies. But he won't stop as long as the camera light is on. The attention feeds his massive ego. I have to wonder why the media keep covering this man's BULL$H!T.

I believe that Trump should be pronounced an embarrassment of the American people and no video of him should be on TV for the rest of the world to see. He should not be seen by the rest of the world as an example of what an American is.

Let's end this birther thing once and for all. We can look at two presidential candidates to see the hypocracy that runs rampant in the Republican/Tea Party/Birther movement.
One candidate (Mitt Romney) admits to being born in Mexico to parents that are U.S. citizens. No one has asked him for his birth certificate and no one has doubted his qualification to run for that office.
The other candidate (President Obama) admits to being born in Hawaii, which was either a territory or a state at the time. He had one parent, his mother, who was a U.S.citizen. According to U.S. law, the place of birth is irrelivant if at least one parent was a U.S. citizen. If that is the case, the person is considered to be a natural born citizen, thus eligible to become President of these United States. There has never been any question that his mother was a U.S. citizen and remained so until the day she died. Thus, President is no alien or foreigner. He's a natural born citizen. Anyone disputing this is a total ignoramus.
Trump is an idiot. Associating with him makes Romney idiotic. The longer this partnership goes on, the more odious both 'men' will become. This is something to complain about?
Monk, I really think Romney doesn't see anything wrong with Trump on his team. Trump is just one of the country club elites that Romney has spent his whole life with. Romney will never figure this out. It's not in his DNA.
We should mail out flyers to everyone with their pictures on the front asking people to donate to their cause, God knows they need the money. Inside we could list those very things they are concerned about along with a list from their donors. We could let voters see where their hard earned cash is going. How many people are there in the U.S.? How many flyers do we need?
I'm sure he doesn't. And this is a good thing for everyone who doesn't want a President Romney.
The birthers are going to have to prove Obama's mother was not an American. Even if Obama were born in Timbuktu, he would be a "natural-born citizen" under the Constitution, because his mother was an American.
John McCain was born in Panama; Obama & Hillary Clinton co-sponsored a bill clarifying -- in case Trump wondered -- that McCain was a natural-born citizen, qualified to run for president.
I think getting the birthers to look for Obama's "real" mother would be great -- it could occupy them for all of Obama's next term.

I for one would find it refreshing to hear a real human being ask these men of plastic a few questions. Is there a way to corner these politicians and have them publicly answer questions from someone we trust, like Rachel or ED or any number of good reporters. They should set up an interview on 60 minutes and then let Rachel have the mic. Surprise! she could come out from behind the Oz like curtain. I know she won't wear the Tiara but, perhaps a small butterfly pendant discreetly placed near her heart.
Trump is proving how big of an idiot he is once again. He can't stand the fact the president made a fool out of him last year after he brought out his long form birth certificate. He had already made available his short form- the kind Hawaii generally gives out these days- and the other one has the same info and a little more. But the fact that two Hawaiian governors- one Republican and one Democrat- have both confirmed the president was born in Hawaii- the states Registrar and the head of the Dept of Health have all confirmed it and the two Honolulu newspapers published the birth announcement back in 1961 as well as all the other confirmations that have come from other sources, proves the presidents birth certificate is real and valid. The current governor even knew the Obama's when they got married and saw the president when he was just a few days old. There is no question about his birth place no matter what Trump says.
Trump steamed about the Obama jokes at last years correspondents dinner. Trump firing Gary Busey was equal in importance with getting Bin Laden.
Romney cannot at the same time embrace Trump and denounce Birtherism.
