Clinton's daughter works for a hedge fund, what do you think he'd say??
that reminds me, didn't President Obama get all those job offers from hedge fund companies while he was still at Harward?
Excellent point Jack. Clinton was a true politician with that comment. I think most rationallly thinking folks that are engaged in the politics of this country know that ANY politician will put almost ANY business or group in a favorable light if that group impacts his "job" politically speaking. We heard it from Newark's mayor last week and Clinton this week. What gets me is I do think some of the politicians think that we don't see through this. It is just so predictable.
Eccentric is when the 1% sport tacky socks. Tasteless is when the 99% wear them.
I'm retired now, but with well over 40 years in the mainframe computer business, I found the hacking link very informative. There will be interesting days ahead in the art of cyber warefare.
I have to say I have mixed feelings about this story. I certainly don't object to the notion that it may have slowed the Iranian advances toward nuclear weapons - what this world needs is fewer of those damned things, not more.
However, sauce, goose, gander, right? There are plenty of skilled and talented programmers outside the borders of the U.S. of A., and some of them undoubtedly have patriotic sentiments... for countries that may not regard us fondly. I won't presume to speak for anyone else who may be cheering on this development (yay! war by another means on Iran!), but I hope those cheering aren't too surprised or upset when the inevitable counterattacks come through. The extent to which large swaths of our "first world" society rely on our interconnectedness through computers is considerable. I'm having sudden unhappy visions of massive power outages, hospital patients who require electronic monitoring and assistance in trouble, etc., etc. Remember, war is hell, and, for good or ill, thanks to the internet, the world is "smaller" than ever.
here is a good laugh for you, front page headline from the Denver Post, "A taxing experience, Freed Bruce calls jail conditions deplorable and vows to sue", Douglas Bruce was an anti-tas activist who served 104 days for tax-evasion sentence, as you read through the story you start laughing, Bruce was all for not funding jails with taxpayer money and now is upset with the conditions in the jails. he thinks that he can sue if his appeal of his tax-evasion is outrurned.
Rachel, I have been wanting to thank you for your outstanding support of the troops and their dependence, over the years while I was still in the military that support was not there, again love your book it is right on, we use to have a saying during the 1980's, "We have do so much with so little for so long that we could do anything with nothing at all", have seen an F14 aircraft sit around on the ground for over 6 months without any engines in it and no chance to getting new ones to get the plane back up into the air, back in the late 1970's I heard stories about F15's coming off the assembly line with engines that had more flight time then the aircraft, and once the new planes were flown to their new bases the engines were taken back out and shipped back to the plant to install them into new planes just to keep the planes moving on the line.
Clinton, as President, wanted to reduce Social Security and if he had succeeded people receiving SS today would be receiving 10% less in their paycheck, the age qualification would have been increased even more than it is and overall SS would have been reduced by 3%. I think the real Bill Clinton is starting to show up. And, FYI Clinton complimented Ryan and quote said to him "you succeeded on getting the ball rolling on his Social Security Campaign".
I guess there was a catch in him (Clinton) going to Wisconsin after all?
Is anyone considering that Rep. McCotter is having a breakdown? This does not seem like "normal behavior" for a person seeking re-election.
Personally I'm glad that John Edwards was acquitted. The republicans get away with a lot worse and don't even have to ever answer for it. That's how it is with the democrats though, they are always trying to look centrist, as if somebody might care.
